Hachi Sushi

“It's BYOB and with the liquor store a stone's throw away there's no reason to not get that bottle of saki or wine across the parking lot.”

“Based on the review on yelp, I ordered the Titanic roll and Josh Hand roll, both of which were delicious and the ingredients tasted fresh.”

“It's smothered with delicious ginger dressing, that is so good I would bathe with it if time, finances and society allowed.”

  1. Not that long ago, I reviewed a restaurant whose chirashi I shed unwarranted tears over only to discover that although it was good, it wasn't quite worth crying over. (After Hachi, I now know it reeeally wasn't worth crying over.)

However, the deluxe chirashi at Hachi, now that is a chirashi worth crying over! It is chock full of fresh, sweet, deliciously raw seafood such as fatty tuna, salmon, white tuna, hamachi, uni, scallop, botan ebi (identified to the best of my ability) over rice that is covered in a thin layer of chopped up unagi. Don't let the picture fool you, there's more variety of high quality seafood beneath the top layer that is visible in the photo. Next time (there will be many, many next times), I'll check to see if I can get the hidden unagi layer without ginger. It's definitely a splurge for $27 but well worth it with the quality and variety you're getting.

The reason why it doesn't get the full five stars is because although it's worth the price in my opinion, it's admittedly not the best value chirashi in the area. My newly-downgraded-because-of-Hachi-second-favorite chirashi is only a stone's throw away for $18.

I'm already itching for my next trip to New Jersey because of this place!

  2. I definitely had better.
I ordered the fried chicken bento for lunch.
The fried chicken bento box came with 2 soggy chicken katsu, hard gyoza dumplings, 6 avocado & crab rolls, salad, and miso soup. Portion was average and it's about $13.
The fried chicken was just soggy chicken katsu. It seemed to me that right after they fried the chicken, they cut it up and placed into the bento box. While the chicken was sitting and waiting to be delivered, the outer layer got soggy because the oil didn't have enough time to cool down.
But most of all, I was disappointed by the gyoza dumplings. The gyoza dumplings were boiled/steamed (instead of pan-fried like other Japanese restaurants) and then taken out to be kept warm for some amount of time. The shell became dry while it was sitting after being cooked and became hardened. It was inedible.
I just didn't understand their process in their cooking methods…

I also tried the sushi deluxe plate and their udon. They were better than the fried chicken bento box. And the service was okay.

  3. This place is near my office so I've eaten there from time to time … both eating in and take-out.   I had lunch there today so thought I'd write the review while it's fresh in my mind.

This is a nice place. It's pleasant inside – it's fairly new so the decor is modern and hip. Nice atmosphere to eat in.  The waitstaff are pleasant if not overly helpful.  I went for lunch today and noticed there were no vegetarian Bento Box options – all the Teriyaki's listed had meat and I'm a vegetarian.  I asked the waitress if I could substitute Tofu Teriyaki, and the waitress said she'd have to ask the Chef.  She came back a few minutes later with a smile on her face and politely said no, I could not substitute.  Period.  No explanation as to why (it surely doesn't cost more than the meat options …??).    So I ended up just ordering the Tofu Teriyaki and a side of Edamame and it was fine, but it would have been nice to understand why they didn't have a Vegetarian Bento Box option.

The soup and salad served with the meals were a really nice touch and I certainly didn't leave hungry.  The Edamame I ordered was overcooked and mushy, which was a shame.  Otherwise a really nice lunch.

  4. Can I get a whoohoo for my 50th review? Yay!

Hachi is a pretty decent sushi spot that I frequent since I live within walking distance. I say "decent" because everything is average, nothing will knock your socks off but you won't have any complaints.

The best part about this place is that it's BYOB, there's a nice liquor store across the parking lot, and they don't charge a corking fee or anything. Whatup warm sake!

The food is good but not outstanding. I've tried pretty much all the vegetarian options on the menu at this point and usually stick with the avocado roll, veggie tempura and tofu salad. Prices are average for the area.

It's a relatively small restaurant but it has a nice atmosphere. The service is good, and they're open between lunch and dinner which is convenient.

It's worth a try if you're in the area. Hit up Linwood Liquors across the parking lot and get your drink and sushi on.

  5. Local sushi spot in Linwood plaza.

My gf recommended us to go since PJs were closed cause they are on vacation.

First. It would of gotten a 3 star for average… But Service is SO SLOW here. I was getting extremely aggravated. So it lost a star solely based on service. Took us forever to get the waitress to take our order. Mind you she asked us to order 1 min after sitting so we asked for a little more time. She never came back….. Until we were literally calling for her. Then we messed up my friends order when she asked for no cucumbers. And when it finally came down to getting the check .. It took ages !!!

The food… The fish is fresh but the rolls are pricey for the portion given. They did have some unique names of rolls and combinations. Snow White roll was very good. Haven't tried anything like that. So creativity with the rolls! Thumbs up.

Overall, food was average. Overly priced. Service sucked. Don't see myself coming back.

  6. Went for Daily Lunch Special

Food – 5/5. Delicious, delicate sushi. The rolls are definitely made by professionals as they not only taste good but also look good. The tempura has a nice light batter without the overwhelming fried oil flavor, which is great. The udon broth has a nice clean finish thanks to the added spinach. Salad is typical of an Asian restaurant complementary salad. The tamagoyaki had the right amount of sweet and savory to it.

Service – 4/5. Professional and courteous! I came around 2:30 so when it came time for my bill the staff were having their meal but they always had their eyes on me and responded immediately when I asked for the check.

Price – 3/5. Even as lunch specials, the prices are kind of high but about even compared to other Japanese restaurants in the area. The manager special I had was a whopping $16 even as a lunch. The variety is there and the food tastes good but in terms of value, I wouldn't put it up there with some of the other lunch specials in the area.

    Parking – Mall Lot (Free)

  7. came here tonight with the other half after looking forward to finding a decent sushi spot without having to go all the way to mitsuwa. He ordered the manager's dinner special – fresh crisp salad, decent non-soggy, crispy assorted tempura, a bowl of udon, and some sushi – which is a really decent price for that big meal. I had the tri-color roll (not shabby) and the spicy tuna roll (yum!)
loved the decor in this place. service was ok. would be back if I craved sushi in the area.

  8. This place is hidden away in a shopping plaza. It is a small restaurant with great service and a nice menu.

The staffing here is great as I feel they are over staffed to make sure no one waits on the service.

Everything we ordered here tastes fresh and great.
I feel sushi is one of those opinion driven foods.
There is a good variety of foods here from sushi to katsu . The chicken katsu was amazing here, large portions, fried to perfection. I don't believe i have ever had better chicken katsu anywhere lol.
Pricing wasn't bad at all, I have paid a lot more for less quality. So least you know you will get a good deal here.

The ambience was nice and casual.
The owner here is kind and tends to greet all the customers, making sure they feel invited.

Took pics of a couple of the entrees.
    Enjoy
