I think this place was just ok.
The pics I took looked nice.
I don't think I'd go out of my way to come back here. The fish quality was better than most places I've been for sushi.
While we didn't think the sushi rolls were anything special, the service was excellent and everything came with soup, salad and green tea ice cream, which wasn't too sweet and very refreshing.
The slow service is the culprit for my lack of stars here.
I've been on two different occasions around the same time, Friday night 7ish. The first time the service was slower than we would have preferred, but nothing to complain about. It was us and 2 other tables. During my most recent visit, every table was occupied so I guess this is to blame for the increased wait times.
To compensate, they kept bringing out appetizers, which we did not order. First there was a sampling of seaweed salad (definitely would get), pickled cucumbers, crab stick and broccoli (a little strange), and a scoop of mashed potatoes (even more strange). Then came the miso soup and house salad, normally not included with specialty rolls. After that, the appetizers we did order. Fried pork Gyoza, light and delicious, and the pork buns. The buns were just okay. The pork wasn't cooked enough and was overpowered by the "special sauce" (tasted like BBQ). Our rolls came shortly after and I have zero complaints here. The fish and other ingredients are fresh, and they have some great combinations. At this point we are stuff and ready to go but not quite yet. Our server brings out pineapple and green tea iced cream. At this point, my only thought was how much money they lost by giving us so much free food.
A sushi dinner for 2 people that should have been an hour long, lasted 2 hours. Safe to say, I will probably just stick to take-out from now on.
Great place for lunch, super good special 2 rolls for 10$ and 3 for 13$ also came with a small appetizer and a green tea ice creAm scoop at the end. The food was good. I had the spicy tuna and spicy salmon also shrimp tempura. I loved all of them. Service was good and the decor was very modern. Loved it! Would definitely recommend and go back.
Kind of torn about this place.
Seems to be run by nice people with good service. Complimentary scoop of ice cream was a plus. The sushi tasted fresh. Soup and salad is pretty standard, what you'd find in any Japanese restaurants in the area.
But, the restaurant smelled very unappetizing. Not sure how to describe it… over-bleached with a fishy smell? No good. Then two hours after eating the sushi, I developed a case of stomach problems that forced me to spend quality time with the toilet for the rest of the night. I can't say definitively it was the sushi, but that is what happened.
When my body gets the courage to go to this restaurant again I will update my review. I consider this to be a better choice than AYCEs in the area (they're all gone down the drain in quality in recent years), but does not beat my perennial favorite, Sakura Bana.
