  1. i agree with Christina…this place serves AMAZING sushi so i was surprised by the so-so reviews…my husband and i LOVE this place and have been coming here since we first starting dating…over 7 years now and it has been consistently delicious….my favorite items are the Eric and the Neil rolls…absolutely the best rolls i've EVER had….the ingredients have been fresh, the presentation very nice, and the service top notch each of the countless times we've been here…definitely one of my top three restaurants in montclair.

  2. Although the staff seemed like nice people, they didn't seem to know what they were doing. The decor is fine, and the atmosphere was nice, but the food ensured that I wouldn't return for seconds. I decided to be a bit risky and ordered what I usually get for nigiri sushi (i.e. uni/sea urchin, hamachi/yellowtail, ika/squid, etc.), but I was disappointed with the quality of the fish. Not too much of a surprise.

The prices of some of the sushi were way overpriced for the quality, so if you do happen to go here, I'd stick with the rolls, so the lack-of-quality is masked by the other ingredients.

  3. Don't go here for the service and decor, go here because they serve the most amazing sushi you may ever have.

This place is for people who know a little bit about sushi, and appreciate how savory raw fish can be.  I can't say much about all of their fancy sauce covered rolls, but their Salmon Toro  (which I had on Tuesday night) is one of the best THIINGS I've ever tasted.

The sweetheart salad with tuna and bits of tempura was fabulous.  I also had very lighted seared Sea Bass, served with just tiniest bit Chile Sauce (?)  It was fantastic.

I'm sure there is better sushi somewhere in the world, but I'll probably never get to try it.  5 stars, this is as good as it gets (without going into NY and paying an arm and a leg.)

  4. A very clean place upon entering and the prices are perfect! It was $5 for 1 roll of sushi and they give you 8 pieces! Over by me, 1 roll is like almost $10 and they only give you 6 pieces. So I was extremely happy with that! The staff is super friendly and greets you at the door. I cannot wait to actually eat here since I ordered for pickup this time around. Also it's super easy to get to…it's within walking distance if you are in Montclair.

  5. *seaweed salad (not bad; it's an average seaweed salad that's on a bed of mesculen salad; the main highlight was the bowl that it was served in)
*edamame (what do you want me to say? It was just lightly salad and served with a lemon wedge; nothing spectacular just edamame but I do have to say that the quality was pretty good and the beans themselves were of a great consistency); *Judge Jerry roll (eel and avocado topped with tuna, yellowtail and peanut sauce; yes!!!!! omg, I loved this roll!! that mixture of the fish and peanut sauce on top was a winner; peanuts gave this roll the crunch that it needed since everything else was so soft; flavors are point so you absolutely do not need to dip this into any soy sauce, if you do you'll definitely be doing this roll a disservice)
*Samba roll (spicy tuna with tempura flakes inside inside out rolled with crispy rice drizzled with spicy samba sauce; OMG!!! this roll was amazing!!! I loved the crispy rice, it was so different than any other roll I've had; the sauce was sweet, spicy and salty at the same time; absolutely delicious and I could spoon that sauce onto anything)

This small sushi space is a great hidden spot in Montclair. I like the quality of food and flavors are on point. The service is kinda funny with the servers being young college girls in their sweats and casual clothes. The seating is not too tight but not roomy either considering it's a smaller space. There's an outdoor patio that is setup when it's nice out. FYI, it's street parking like most places in Montclair. There's a parking garage next to the place, but seriously just park locally. It's close and worth the short distance walk and you can use that money that you have spent on the garage on the food instead. Would definitely come back.

  6. Spur of the moment encounter.  We actually thought they were out of business.

We sat at the bar – great ambience and music.  (We were the only people there)

Ordered a few of the interesting things on the menu.

Scallop ceviche – great presentation but they added too much slices jalapeño for color and it made the dish way too hot.

Salmon skin salad.  I'm still burping it up.  Expected the skin to be a tad bit more fresh.  It was chewy and well it just lingered in my mouth for what seemed like an eternity.

We then has a spicy tuna roll with no rice.  It was wrapped in cucumber.  Would have been fabulous except it tasted like cream cheese was used in the tuna and as a dressing on top.

The best and last thing we had were the Peking duck dumplings.  Fried.  Quite tasty and came with 3 dipping sauces.

    Overall I can't say I'd go back.
