  1. Less fancy-fancy, more traditional Port Washington Japanese serving usual sushi rolls, a la carte sushi, teriyaki and tempura fare.  Sushi rolls were ok but the tuna don was seriously tiny and barely filling.  The rice wasn't vinegared enough so it was a bit bland too.  Service is really fast so you may feel a but rushed in and out.  Prices are also not on par with the small portions.  Too bad because it's very nice on the inside.

  2. Sadly because Yamaguchi's is closed temporarily the pickings for authentic Japanese food is scarce.  This place is operated by chinese so obviously there is nothinng authentic about it.

The food is decent enough.  They did offer fresh uni the night we were there, and you really can't mess that up, open the shell and voile, and it was very fresh and delicious.  Some of their rolls are inventive but still lacks a little something.

Not bad for in a pinch but cannot wait for Yamaguchi's to open shop again.

  3. Came here for dinner last night on the way back from the hamptons and was pleasantly surprised. The service was quick, our waitress was new but none of our orders were messed up

    Food
    – regular and garlic edamame for the table. Should have gotten 2 garlics, that stuff was like crack. They do chunks of garlic with oil and it's deeeeelish
    – golden toro roll- my boyfriend was intrigued by the gold flakes and truffle soy sauce but in the end it fell flat. The mango was a nice touch but there were too many other flavors that you couldn't just enjoy the toro
    – snow crab roll: the snow crab salad on top was a little bit dry, I would have preferred a Kani salad on top. The salmon inside was good though
    – port Washington roll: really good overall but there was some sort of chewy squash on the inside that I couldn't decide if I liked
    – crispy rice spicy tuna: my favorite roll. The rice was crispy on the outside, moist and sticky on the inside. They give you a good amount of tuna with it

Price was $75 per couple and we ordered 4 specialty rolls so not bad

  4. I have been here so many times, but this was my first time since it is under new ownership. They did some new internal decoration that I really like– looks much "cooler" for lack of a better word (nice lighting, cool touches to the sushi bar, etc.) and new is always nice. My Dad loves their green salad w/ ginger dressing, nothing has changed there. The sushi did seem fresher and better though. We tried the Bonsai 2013 roll (coconut shrimp and some veggies inside (the usual– cucumber/avocado) and then baked scallop and crap on top with a wasabi and mango sauce. It was $13, but I enjoyed this a lot and it was very filling. Everything in it was always cooked, so for those that stay away from raw fish, this is nice to try something different. Also had a cucumer/avocado roll (only $3.50) and it was very delicious. We also got two shrimp tempura rolls ($6 each) and you can decide if you want cucumber or avocado inside .We finished with fried ice cream- I still think Bonsai makes THE BEST fried ice cream of all time. I will be back!

  5. Where do i even begin.

My boyfriend and I went for a lunch special. We have never tried this sushi place before. It was fantastic.

First of all the decor was great. Fun fish tank. Fairly simple. Good feel. Very clean and good seating arrangements. The seating hostess was the nicest seating hostess I've ever seen.

We each had a lunch special of three maki rolls. The lunch special for $12.95 included soup, salad, a choice of gyoza or shumai, plus ice cream for each of us! That was the best value i've ever heard of. Everything was quality and fresh. The gyoza were excellent and such a great bonus.

The sushi itself was good and higher quality. Still not my favorite sushi place in the area but still great 🙂 My boyfriend had spicy salmon with avocado and a tempura shrimp roll. The spicy salmon was great but the shrimp tempura was excellent. Such good flavor. I had spicy salmon roll, kani tempura roll and salmon avocado. All were so good.

For lunch, this is the best value you can find. You get so much delicious, quality and fresh food. Not one thing was bad.

I can't wait to go back. I've tried so many sushi places in the area and Bonsai blew them all out of the water. Go you Bonsai
