My review is about 15 years overdue, although I doubt Yelp was in existence when I first started eating at La Strada as a super youngin'. I used to have a big crush on bartender and he would let me sit by the bar and give me Shirley Temple's and goldfish. To this day even though the restaurant has tripled in size it's still the same, the bartender and waiters still know me and always warmly greet my family.
Anyway, this place is great all around. The food is very classic Italian in the sense that it's hardy and delicious but not always presented in the most elegant way. Don't get me wrong the presentation isn't terrible but you're definitely here for the quality of the food and to get full not to look at a pretty plate that tastes like smoke and mirrors.. You literally could eat anything off their special(s) or regular menu and most likely be satisfied. Some dishes that I recommend are their stuffed artichoke, fried calamari, chicken francese and my personal favorite the La Strada combo for two. The combo for two comes with veal, chicken, steak, a croquet, broccoli and a house salad (comes before hand); $40-42 for two people I believe.
The services is always excellent from bartender to host to waiter to busboy and you even have your good ole' accordion player that works the room and will play a tune of the choice (he also doubles has a piano player in between his little table shows).
Anyway, come here – eat, enjoy yourself. Best all-around, great Italian restaurant on the Island.
My fiance received gift certificates to La Strada and we decided to try it out. The atmosphere is pretty spacious, the restaurant was a bit empty but I think it was because it was a weird time on a Monday night. I ordered a special with veggies, chicken and pasta. My fiance's parents got the La Strada Combo For Two and really enjoyed it. My fiance has a bit of a special order by asking them to do the Shrimp Parmesan with Vodka sauce and angel hair pasta. It was described as "awesome, so good". For dessert we had a deliciously creamy and light tiramisu. We had a very nice waiter who was attentive throughout the meal. The experience was great and would come back here if I ever come to Staten Island for dinner.
