So my brother mentioned this placed for pizza on the way home from brooklyn. After looking at the stellar reviews and Bobby Flay throwing down with this place We ordered in traffic on the staten island expressway. We got the caesar salad, fried calamari and a large Variopinta thats the one with zucchini pancetta stracciatela and garlic and herbed infused cheese. They said 20 minutes. I thought that would just be enough time. We got our food home and everything was still hot. Salad was fresh not wilted or brown at all.. the dressing was amazing! The fried calamari was surprisingly not oily and it was very crispy. The pizza crust was thin just the way i like it and the toppings were great. What an awesome pie. A little expensive and hard to find a spot but very good def will try again.
Pizzeria Giove is a new Staten Island favorite for me. Even though the ambiance is barely a step up from a regular pizzeria the pies are super tasty.
Their margarita pie is perfect if you are looking for a simple, satisfying meal. If you are feeling up for more of a challenge any of their white pies are excellent – my favorite being the Variopinta with panchetta and zucchini. I've also had penne vodka and chicken parm from Giove; predictable but reliable.
The only thing that irks me about Giove is how high the price tag is for how casual the dining experience is in comparison. Plastic dishes, bottles of soda and tea brought to the table instead of in glasses – these tiny things should be upgraded to match the quality of their pizzas.
If you're a Staten Islander and fan of Brothers Pizzeria, have no fear the owner's sons- aka the Giove brothers opened up Pizzeria Giove in New Dorp. The Giove family KNOWS their pizza. After reppin Shaolin as pizza capital on Food Network's throwdown with Bobby Flay (seriously what does that ginger know about good pizza?!), we ordered their famed Variopinta pizza which is topped with stracciatela, pancetta, zucchini, herb infused cheese, and extra virgin olive oil and a regular cheese pie for delivery.
Variopinta pie is unlike any pizza you've tried. it's crispy, salty, creamy, veggie (this counts right?!) and delicious! It's a bit more expensive that what you may pay for pizza elsewhere but for this pie, it's worth a splurge. A great alternative to regular cheese pie and I liked this pie much better than the other one.
If you like specialty pizzas, then this place is for you. There are no slices, only pies. It is not your typical take out pizzeria in that sense. They have the menu separated by red and white pizzas, along with other items for non-pizza lovers. Some personal favorites are the variopinta, the giove and the gustosa. Their octopus and potato appetizer is delicious! The prices are a bit pricey for SI, but you're paying for the ingredients. Everything is cooked just right and tastes great. The weekends are always crowded, so you may have a wait, but worth it.
Excellent pies crafted with care. The Millennium Pie was a great choice. Very fresh with a great crispy crust. Service was very friendly and attentive. The only off putting thing was when we were waiting to be seated the hostess strung up a rope across the dining room entrance. Last time I checked this is a pizzeria not Studio 54. Ditch the velvet rope it's tacky and unnecessary.
I went to this place last week while I was in Staten Island! "Yelped" a place for pizza nearby and decided to go! I am very skeptical with any pizza place because very rarely do you find authentic or amazing pizza places anymore. Having traveled to Italy and lived in Brooklyn all my life I know good pizza and sauce! This place was really amazing! Started off with some mild wings which were okay! Your typical wings! The reason i give this place 5 stars is because there BRICK OVEN PIZZA IS HEAVEN!!! Whats better than watching an Italian guy making your pizza in this little pizza station with like brick tile roof "thing" creating a mini pizza area in the restaurant! You just really have to go and see it! Its pretty rare to see two Italian brothers making AUTHENTIC PIZZA anymore! Its owned by Italian brothers who are the nicest people ever and ensure there costumers leave happy! The service is on point for example the second your done with your plate its out of the way, your eating wings and another person is bringing napkins to your table! For desert i had this hazelnut ice cream truffle thing something of that nature wasn't memorable but…They have tiramisu homemade sadly they didn't have it ready… all in all GO FOR THE PIZZA!!!!!! THEY HAVE SO MANY DIFFERENT KINDS!!! I tried the fresh mozzarella, olive oil with portobello mushrooms but you should really start with the original cheese pizza its awesome!! I even took one large original one home!! Tried the chicken cutlet hero it was alright but PIZZA OUT-SHINES IT!! Cant wait to go back!! Its a shame there across the bridge! Accepts credit cards!! High tech iphones to take orders!! One word GO!!!!!
I've been back a few times since my last review and feel like I need to take off a star. It gets busy on the weekends, which is understandable and expected. However, the lack of a comfortable waiting space is a real turn off. There's no where to move to allow the delivery guys to get through or to allow other customers to walk up to the hostess stand. There's no real seating in the small waiting space. If there are people who need to sit, like my father who recently had hip surgery, you're basically screwed unless someone in one of the two seats available notices you- which in their defense is hard to do with so many people squished in a little vestibular. In general you just get the feeling that the staff has the attitude that they're doing you a favor by allowing you to dine in their establishment.
On a Friday night you might wait for 30-40 min. Just sit there and wait. You will not be disappointed. They even serve wine (free) to waiting customers.
The pizza is perfection. House made cheese and sauces. The crust is thin and crisp. The specialty pizzas are outstanding. Order The Millennium- it won against Bobby Flaw in a throw down! It's a white pie with cheese, cooked ham, thin sliced onion and topped with arugula and lemon. It's light as a feather and the taste, like Calgon, will take you away.
