Da Tommaso Ristorante

“The other important note is even though it was the holiday season and in the theater district – they didn't rush us a bit!”

“Also, save room for dessert, it is well worth it here (at least try the espresso).”

“The menu has many standard Italian fare options and the service is top-notch and efficient.”

  1. An excellent Italian Restaurant.  Scallopini  and pasta were prepared more rich and creamy than most
High-end Italian places I've been to in the U.S. And Italy.  This is not  a home-style, family-style Italian restaurant.  Service was some of the best I've seen anywhere, attentive and knowledgeable, but unobtrusive.  Location is within striking distance of Broadway show venues and Manhattan hotels.  Good wine selection.

Highly recommended by locals who frequent this place.  Wide menu selection, sampled
My table mates seafood, that was prepared well.  I think seafood is a specialty here.

  2. I have passed by Da Tomaso for years and never actually ate there-I stopped by for lunch and the restaurant was empty. It was a Saturday between theater performances. I ordered a small salad and pollo romana which was chicken in a light brown sauce with proscuitto, peas and artichokes. it was very tasty and the staff was accommodating. It is a small place and would be good for smaller groups. I would recommend and return.

  3. I wasn't thrilled with what I ordered (Veal Sambuca), but the rest of the family raved about their orders, so they are getting 4 stars.  Ambiance was great and had an old Italian feel.  Great drinks and let us have dessert outside, so all in all, it's worth a 4.

  4. Cheesy ol' [near all of the Broadway shows] Italian Restaurant

Walking into this restaurant made me want to just walk right back out — the place was completely empty when we arrived!!  Then again it was a weeknight and it was almost 10:30 pm.

Yes, this spot is in the middle of "tourist central" and very close to all of the theaters but the food was good!

Excellent service, reasonable prices, quick quick quick = fairly impressive since we had a party of 12!!

Everyone in our group seemed to enjoy their food. I wouldn't call it award winning but it was certainly Italian "comfort food" for the soul.

Date Rating: 5 (this works well if you're going to a show… wouldn't suggest going out of your way for a "romantic" date here)
    Pick up Scale: N/A

Strong Suggestions:  If you're ordering any veggies and you don't want them overcooked [which most Italian restaurants seem to do] just make sure you tell the waiter that you would like your veggies "aldente."

  5. Not the best Italian in midtown.  I lived right over this place and when I went out onto my terrace I would constantly smell the aroma of Itlian food.  Came here one night before walking up to Lincoln Center to see an opera.  Ehhh.. not the greatest.  It was OK, but I have experienced much better Italian food in NYC.

  6. I really like this place. I've never eaten in, but we order takeout from here regularly. My husband is obsessed with the saltimboca and the penne vodka. I always order the salmon with mustard sauce. It's delicious. However, delivery is inconsistent. Sometimes I receive the order with a dozen red potatoes pieces. Sometimes with just 3. Now, I'm as carb conscious as the next New Yorker, but I like predictability. Oh, and about that…. The bread, although I don't eat it, is beyond.

  7. This place crams people in the restaurant with little space. It is not even average. The grilled pounded chicken was bland. The mushrooms and polenta were fine. The house salad was average. The pesto was average. It's overpriced for what it is. You can find better pre-theater options.

  8. If you are looking for great Northern Italian food, look no further than Da Tommaso. The overall appearance of the restaurant does not provide confidence in the quality of the food. The dining room is crowded…but they have the art of making room for everyone down to a science. Hell, the place has been open for 20 years, they better have it down by now.

The food is very authentic, Northern Italian fare. The sauces, meats and different kinds of pasta were all prepared to perfection. I couldn't have been happier.

Even with making the mistake of attempting to be seated right around the time pre-show dinner was happening, they still were fast and courteous with their service. If at all possible, MAKE A RESERVATION.

The cannoli is to die for…seriously.

For being located in the middle of the hell that is the Times Square area, they are a nice escape from bad, generic, mass-produced Italian food found at too many restaurants in New York.
Go eat here, then walk over a few blocks and see Jersey Boys…you won't regret the night!
