Did takeout today and always good! Steak tacos are my favorite with the green sauce! Add a pineapple jarrito and you can't go wrong!
Going to chow down after a long day at work!!
Have been here multiple times in the past couple years – always solid, authentic Mexican food in huge portions that could easily feed two if you're not as hungry. No exaggeration here – if you order delivery each entree comes in its own foil party platter – the type you bring to potlucks.
The interior, while clean and tasteful, is very small (I think they only have 4 tables?) so be prepared to wait for a seat during the lunch rush or during dinner. Luckily they deliver.
Highly recommend the tamales as a side – like anything else on the expansive menu, they're huge and packed with flavor (love the red tamales personally). Wish this place was closer to me so I could order delivery!
Best Mexican food in Kearny!!!
Must try steak tacos, Mi pueblito steak, pork chops in red/green sauce, fresh guacamole, jarittos and horchatta… Get em all! Amazing food, flavor and price! On average it can set you back $11-$14 greenbacks
Yesterday on July 4th, we didn't want to cook and our BBQ event was hours away. Staying local, we call up and realized our favorite Mexican spot was opened on a holiday! #Winning
Yesterday we had steak tacos, chicken burrito, guacamole, salsa and chips. Drinks were horchata and pineapple jarritos.
We've been here many times and have never been disappointed with a meal. You can even try a sample.. Just ask.
Food time:
1. Steak tacos are awesome. The meat is tender and juicy and flavored right.
2. Chicken burrito was awesome as well. Nice bite sized with flavor, rice and beans.
3. Horchata… Yummy goodness! A liquid white refreshing drink that's sweet with cinnamon nutmeg taste. It's not milk though… Rice water I believe…
4. The guacamole and chips are to die for! The best $5 yall ever spend! We aka way order one for the table and it's presented lovely!
We will be loyal patrons here. My fiancé and I come, I bring friends and family and everyone loves it here! The decor inside is nice and has 2 tv's. They have 5-6 tables that can easily sit 2-4 people. I think you will love this place as we do! Enjoy folks
There are 3 things you need to know before coming here:
1. They don't give a ishh about your peanut allergy or if you like mild instead of spicy, orders are as is on the menu.
2. Don't eat the ENTIRE basket of chips and salsa as you wait for your meal, you will regret it later.
3. Street Parking is very limited and meter maids are snipers, so bring lots of quarters.
Great, now what to order!
We started with a bowl of guacamole, and it was solid, but not the best I've ever had. Definitely improved with some lime and salt. But I've never met an avocado I haven't loved, so I still devoured it.
We ordered 3 plates to share and was very satisfied with each. For me the best bang for your buck was the tacos $7 (plus I was craving tacos all day after watching a Mexican cooking show). The pernil (pork) tacos are amazing with grilled onions and loaded with cilantro and radishes; squirt some lime on those suckers and get ready to lick your plate clean.
My second favorite was the skirt steak $14.50 with rice and beans. Normally not a fan of refried beans, but these had good flavor and paired perfectly with the Spanish rice. The skirt steak was a really good portion too.
Last we had the chicken tostadas which were not my favorite. Mostly because I think they were missing something, like a kick or some kind. Once the guacamole and salsa were on it, then it was a perfect match.
Overall, I would definitely return and take advantage of the delivery option.
Came to this adorable restaurant for dinner tonight. BYO wine, two jarritos, an order of chicken chalupas and a steak with eggs all for $27!!! Deals like this are hard to come by. Nachos were good and salsa was on point. The chalupas were great too. Nice little kick and chicken was flavorful. The steak was good, but nothing to write home about. The service was extremely attentive (though I did have to use my rusty Spanish skills). Definitely will be back!!
I stumbled upon this divey Mexican restaurant as a recommendation from my sister who is a Kearny local.
The restaurant is very tiny, with about four tables. We came on a Saturday night and took the last open table (it is a little tight)
The chips and salsa served were good, the guacamole was also pretty tasty. I got fajitas for my entree and they were good, but a little too salty for my liking. The restaurant did not have black beans which was a let down because I'm not a big fan of pinto.
The main issue I had was with he service, while the waitress was very nice, her English wasn't the best so it wasn't easy to communicate back regarding refills, orders and asking for the check.
They do deliver so if you're a local it would come in handy.
Not a bad spot, but not too great either.
Mi Pueblito is a local gem in Kearny that serves up authentic Mexican food at extremely fair prices. In comparison to NYC, they're actually downright inexpensive! The restaurant is quite small, can fit maybe 20 people max.
The guacamole is a must-order, especially for those who like theirs chunky. Their homemade chips are oily, but they're also addictive too (beware for those who can't eat just one chip). I ordered the Chicken Tostadas and the novio ordered the Bistec Mi Pueblito. Chicken Tostadas were amazing. Although the "shell" was fried, I did not feel as though it was weighing me down. This is a dish that you shouldn't doggy-bag as the corn shell will get soggy. We've also made several trips to them since that first eat-in experience, and even better are their shrimp quesadillas and the cheese enchiladas.
Mi Pueblito succeeds as a no-fuss spot with food at great prices. Win!
Mi Pueblito sets my new standard for Mexican food. It is a tiny mom and pop restaurant in Kearny that serves authentic Mexican. I wouldn't call it a hole-in-the-wall as it's a lot more cozy and clean, with tasteful decor. There are only 5-6 tables, so for dinner it's best to get there before 7pm.
The menu is quite extensive. We ordered a good variety so we can try a little bit of everything. (We did come hungry.) We started with the guacamole, an order of Nachos "Mi Pueblito", and 2 tamales. They give you a complimentary basket of homemade tortilla chips and salsa as well. The guacamole was really good and was finished within minutes. The Nachos, topped with ground beef and melted cheese, was delicious especially with the guacamole. We also had one red tamale with pork and one green tamale with chicken. Both had a nice kick, but if I had to choose one, I would go with the green tamale.
For my main course, I had the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce, served with rice and beans. The plate comes with 4 enchiladas which was more than enough. What makes the dish is the spicy mole sauce, which had lots of bold flavors. The chicken was nicely cooked and tender. My husband had the tacos with spicy pork and enjoyed the dish as well. The tacos and toppings were all fresh.
Prices are right and the service is friendly. Overall, a great local spot for traditional and authentic Mexican food. Ole!
