This is a fantastic tucked away Mexican spot. Great cultural feel, generous service, house-made sodas, byob, and great food.
Have been azteca now about 4 times and so my review is a compilation of all those.
So first time date night a few weeks ago
I am so happy that this place is hopping! I love to see a succesful business in our small town and looks like these guys are doing really well!
We ate in that first time.
Started with chips and guacamole.
Guacamole tastes fresh and was pretty decent serving of chips with salsa and guac.
Main meal- meals?
We had carnitas tacos- needed a little something like more acid. I loved nopales on the tacos was perfect.
Hubby had the carne Asada entree. Good and fresh. Nice cut of steak.
I had the burrito bow with el pastor. Wow. Let me tell you. I have had el pastor in many places. I have had it from mexican friends who make truly authentic since mama made it and just arrived from Jalisco ok? But damn this sucker was hot! I could only have one piece. I stuck to the tacos. Holy mama.
Next day hubby had it for lunch. Eyes watering smack them lips hot.
Service was so -so. As many commented you do have to get their attention. Young kid server seems new and unseasoned. They only have two servers and they were packed that night. Again love seeing that so am ok with callig him over for my refill.
Last three times have been take out.
Practically a Friday night ritual now.
Staples for us are the tacos
We like the chicken, el pastor (hot baby), steak and carnitas.
The carnitas themselves are a little mold/bland and the chicken seems a little dry.
If you are eating it like a normal person most of the added flavors are coming from the delicious nopales, scallions and onions on the taco. I don't eat the carbs so I leave the tortilla behind.
Delicious and I recommend it to all
Great addition to the neighborhood!!
Good luck!!
Did take out tonight for myself and the wife and wasn't really impressed. To be honest, i think i prefer places like Chipotle more…
My wife ordered a shrimp burrito bowl. While impressed by the size of the portion, I was later upset to find out it mainly consisted of rice and that there was very little shrimp included with her dish. After tasting it, I noticed it was pretty bland and basically had to cover it in hot sauce to get some real flavor going.
I ordered the rib eye burrito. While it wasn't bad and the burrito was a pretty big portion, I just wasn't impressed. For the price of the burrito, I just don't think the bang was worth the buck.
We also ordered a side of guacamole, which was tasty, but the portion was so small, I can't believe they are charging $3 for it.
This place was recommended to me by my hair stylist across the street. I figured she has done such a great job on my hair that I would give her recommendation a try. I am super glad that I did try this place the food is very good and the service is quick and friendly. I have the enchiladas with the mole poblano sauce. it was served very nicely and tasted great. I am sure to come back to this place as there isn't a wealth of good Mexican food in the area. I definitely consider this place to have good food with a nice atmosphere / ambiance. Prices are pretty OK as well so all around no complaints here and I will be back!
The food is pricey and the taste is great.
if you order corn chips, don't forget to ask the spicy salsa
I ordered nachos carina with chicken as starter, taste ooohlala .. Yunmy!!
The grilled chicken breast with rice and beans is rich with flavor.
Overall, if you are in town, you may stop by for a Mexican cuisine craving
Sorry Yelp, but I was just not impressed by Azteca restaurant. I wanted to like this place because of location and all the good reviews but it just didn't do it for me.
First of all, I can't believe they don't give out complimentary chips and salsa. What's up with that? We ordered the $6.00 appetizer to see what was so special about these overpriced, free everywhere else, chips and salsa. Meh. Sure the chips were pretty rugged and sturdy, and the salsa had its own special flavor to it, but unfortunately that's not what I was looking for. I just wanted some good old fashioned chips and salsa that you get free everywhere else. And to charge $6.00 for it? Please!
Like others have said, the menu is set up strangely with the meal followed by bullet points of what is inside it. I ordered the flautas and my friend ordered the tacos. No rice or beans come with the tacos. On the plus side, my flautas were pretty delicious but my friend's tacos were lacking. It also took us forever to get the check, and it wasn't pleasant waiting around since their air conditioner was broken and I was getting overheated!
BYOB!! we went on a Saturday evening, and it was pretty packed but we did get a table quickly. I am so use to getting complimentary chips and salsa at Mexican restaurants, but here you do have to pay. The chips, salsa, and guacs is $8.25….so we just got the chips and guacs. The chips were freshly made, and the guacamole was great….not the kind you can taste that it's been sitting out. The sad note was there was just a small amount of guacs.
I ordered the chicken tacos and I killed my plate! It was so fresh and tasty, add a bit of lime on top and it's just perfection. We asked for the hottest salsa they have, and it boost the flavor of my tacos! Service was so-so, basically we got what we needed after a little wait but it's nothing to knock stars off the review.
I love that it is BYOB. Great staff. I got the steak fajita, someone in my party got the chicken tacos. Everyone really enjoyed their food! The salsa they make here is really good, maybe even better than the guacamole!
