  1. Lobster rolls are expensive, so this place isn't cheap. But it's good! I have the Connecticut style lobster roll, so with warm lobster which I like. Really yummy! Also had the lobster mac and cheese and the down east chowder which was actually very flavorful! I was surprised at how savory it was.

Yum! I would eat here all the time if I could.

  2. I really don't understand all the hype about this place. It is located in the urban space on vanderbuilt. The first thing that stood out to me was how loud the place is. There are a lot of food options but we were set on lobster. The lobster roll is $17 and super small and not very filling. I had the lobster Mac and cheese and for $15 it was like a kids portion. I definitely prefer lukes lobster over this joint.

  3. I my office buddy was looking for places to eat and thinking of Lobsters Rolls, So I told her about Luke's and Red Hook locations that are close to us. And I mention that Luke's is cheaper but a the rolls are bit smaller and has a limited menu.

See wanted to check out the Urbanspace to see all the other food options. And after looking around when we got there we both still settled for Red Hook Lobster. They have option options on there menu for BLT Lobster Roll, or the Lobster Citrus Salad and even a off the wall burger or hot dog. but we went for the basics.

The cashier order taker was not helpful with options or info but I could see that the $4 Hook Up was the best deal. You get potato salad, or coleslaw, with a dill pickle, and Cape Cod chips. It was 12:30 PM and we did not luck out with a seating the place was a wall to wall mob, so it was back to the office with our food.

The lobster on a toasted bun is pretty good with nice pieces of cold juicy, fatty, lobster meat and mayo mix. The coleslaw was MEH, the pickle was OK, and chips were also good.

If I go again I just get the chips, you can also get a wide variety of beer and wine too. And best of all if you change your mind you are at Urbanspace and you got another dozen vendors to pick from with out having to go someplace else.

  4. Lapin and I passed by UrbanSpace on our way to see Matilda  and since we never been, we decided to putter in. We have eaten Red Hook's lobster rolls before but it's mostly at shared spaces like UrbanSpace or those little vendor stands they sometimes have near Madison Square Park or 34th Street area. The lines for the Red Hook wasn't long but it was a bit unorganized. They took your order apparently on one side which you then pay and you receive a ticket when it's your order is ready. However, I rarely saw anyone utilizing the ordering and pick up arrangement. Most people went up placed an order at the takeout counter and sat down or linger waiting to be called. The food came out after 15 minutes of waiting but they made a mistake. They gave us someone else's food and someone had our food. The lobster roll done CT style ($17)  and it was okay. It wasn't particularly noteworthy and looked a  bit smaller portion wise for the price.

  5. The lobster roll is quite tasty–if you can properly cook lobster then it's hard to go wrong with it. Fairly small for the price though–not stingy on lobster given the size of the bun, but it's quite a small bun. I think that there are better options around.

  6. Red Hook Lobster Pound is famous for their lobster rolls, so I was definitely excited to see one open up in UrbanSpace. They serve up their rolls four ways and I feel like you can't really go wrong with any of them. This location also has beer and wine, seats for about six, and encourages loitering with a drink in hand.

The lobster rolls are delicious and packed with large full chunks of lobster goodness. That said, the split buns are small, at about six or seven inches. For $17 each, they will likely have hungry customers complain about the lack of calories. This is definitely a quality over quantity place. Is it worth it? Only if you really really want lobster and don't like sharing.

This location also offer soups, salads, and mac and cheese, all of which are cheaper than the famous lobster rolls because they have less lobster. I didn't try any. Maybe next time I want to treat myself.

  7. So I'm pretty torn with how to rate this place. I've been craving a lobster roll for awhile now. I haven't had one since last February when I was on Boston and every time I go to Urban Space on Vanderbilt I want to get one but I always end up having something else more. Well today I fought off the cravings for all the other delicious options and decided to go for the lobster roll.

So this place isn't cheap… $17 for a lobster roll that you can get several different ways. But I'm a fan of the normal lobster roll which is apparently "Maine style" here. So here's my dilemma… The lobster roll was delicious but it was tiny. Like, tiny tiny. Don't get me wrong it, the roll was packed full of lobster but the roll was small.

So while you look at the pics of the sandwiches on yelp and you're like "Daaaaaamn… Look at that bad boy of a lobster roll overflowing! Totally worth $17!" (Well that was my reaction at least) it'll disappoint you. Honestly, it should be $5 less… Or if they would just take the $4 add-on of chips/pickle/and coleslaw and roll it into the $17 I'd be happy. But as it stands, it's a ripoff.

Personally, if I hit this place up again I'd go for one of their $14 soup+sandwich combos that sound amazing and are a way better deal than the lobster roll.

4 stars for taste, but I gotta take 1 star away for the price… Sorry.

  8. I love lobsters, and I love lobster rolls. Red hook is always my to-go place, given the extensive items on the menu, and the freshness of seafood. Their lobster meat was juicy, fatty, and well marinated.

Apart from lobster roll, red hook also carries a long list of side items, including coleslaw, chips and happy hour drinks. It is right in the middle part of Urbanspace at Vanderbilt, so fairly easy to find it!

Do come during non-rush hours, otherwise the waiting time can be annoying!
