  1. If you are in the mood to get sick after you eat here please feel free to go.  Came into this place with my wife and sister in law and her husband.  When I walk into a place in a Friday night and I see that it is dead, Houston we have a problem.  The garlic bread that they first served us were drenched I mean drenched in oil.  Then we ordered clams and it felt like I was eating sand.  Tried to stay positive so I ordered the platter for two for 100 dollars it came with fish and shrimp scallops and most importantly 2 lobster tails.  Good came and we began to eat my sister in law got the ribs and lobster tail meal.  The ribs actually tasted good they fell right off the bone.  As for our dish im not a fan of fish and I asked if they could substitute something else for the fish said no was like ok.   The scallops actually tasted very good best thing on the platter the shrimp was bad had a horrible taste to it. I didn't touch the flounder I went for the he lobster tails oh my God what a disappointment the tail was tough and chewy I was so angry.  Finally the water says was everything good today I said no the lobster was the worse l have ever had.  He says he's going to tell the manager.  Manager never came but the waiter comes back and tells me that the lobster is hardshell lobster that's why the meat was tough.  I didn't know they had lobster that gives you tough mean and one that was tender.  The best part about this seafood restaurant was their fries.  That a sad thing to say about a place where I shelled out 130 with drinks oh and to top it all off woke up in the morning and vommitted.

  2. I'll start by mentioning that I may need to do this place again before I can give a full take on it.  I was a lil overwhelmed – the setting has seas/boat/pirate/sea-life paraphernalia in every single place where space was, lol!, then the views of the water is the total opposite in its serenity and beauty (esp. at sunset), with 80's soft rock playing as the backdrop.

The staff, while nice, were a lil hasty; I had to remind them that this was my 1st time here and I need to think.  The menu is vast.  I decided on Shrimp Scampi w/ Linguine.  The portion was huge (kinda Carmine-esque).  I ate some, took the rest to go & ate from it twice more.  The flavor could be spiked up a notch, I found myself adding some seasonings to it at home.  The good stuff was the Garlic Bread, buttery and yummy!  I also had this sexy Martini that was a nice compliment to the overall experience.  yea, I'd go back.

  3. I tried this restaurant for the first time based on the advice from a friend who gave rave reviews on this place. In two words…Never again!
I am a self proclaimed seafood lover and because of this I am a frequent visistor of city island but after my visit to this restaurant I must say it probably is THE worst restaurant on the island. First off the prices were very high but I would not have minded if my meal was decent.
We all started with pina colodas which were very good. But for my meal I had the King crab legs with fried shrimp which is generally expensive but was simply ok in my opinion and definitely not better than Sammy's, the lobster box, etc. Two of my friends ordered chicken which they described as the worst that they have EVER had. The service in general was decent and our waitress was friendly. In short, we wont be returning and the friend who recommended JP's will never be listened to again when it comes to food!

  4. What a great treat! I've been frequenting City Island for decades. I by come land in the winter and by sea in the summer. It's a very unique place and unlike most of NY. Truly nautical but with NY sensibilities.

I was surprised to come across a restaurant that I had never been to. It is off the beaten path. According to the owner that's exactly how they like. It's a place for locals and friends of friends. Word of mouth is apparently their only marketing strategy. I like it!

We sat down at the at awesome dark and divey bar. Make no mistake, divey is no insult. It's clean, well stocked, appropriately themed and has plenty of personality. Very cozy! Our bartender that day just happened to be the owner. We usually like to sample as much as possible on a first visit so we ordered a few apps. The beers started showing up in front me. Then I had to try what was a very tasty Bloody Mary. I relaxed and the history lesson began.

The owner told us a lot about the history of his restaurant and his rather unique and incredibly simple approach to proprietorship; make good food using quality ingredients and try to make anything you can from scratch. Simple. Throughout the conversation he would ask questions about food we enjoyed, he listened and voila, a sample would appear. We ended up trying at least 7 different things. Fried seafood for two of us, a homemade pasta sauce for the vegetarian in the group, garlic bread for all… a nibble turned into a sampling and that turned into a meal. We certainly don't expect this treatment every time we come in but I'll say this; our bellies were full and WE ARE OFFICIALLY HOOKED!

    Highlights:
    – Best baked clams on City Island
    – Best calamari on City Island (soooo tender and not overly coated)
    – Best fried shrimp on City Island
    – One of the best Manhattan Clam Chowders on City Island
    – Second best garlic bread on City Island (sorry, Crab Shanty is still my favorite for the most
     garlicy delicious garlic bread ever)
    – Best tartar sauce on City Island (maybe the best I've ever had!)
    – Best decor and ambiance on City Island and a great view from the dining area and patio
    – Dock & dine option for boaters
    – Apparently they do not do parties: So you don't have to worry about some obnoxious DJ or
screaming packs of children running around

    Lowlights:
    – Prices are high compared to the local competition
    – No Miller Lite?!?!

Those criticisms are pretty inconsequential. Not every bar has to carry Miller Lite and as for the prices; you get what you pay for.

    WE WILL BE BACK!

  5. Had the shrimp stuffed with fresh crab meat and it was delicious!  The crab meat was VERY fresh and the portion was huge.  I had three meals out of my leftovers!  The drinks were excellent too.  We were there with a party of 13 for my sister's birthday and the staff was very good about staying on top of whether or not we needed anything.  They had a decent crowd considering it was a very cold winter night and they have a tiny lot so the valet parking is a nice feature.

  6. AMAZING seafood! Portions are giant, so plan to share with friends. We got a meal for two and couldn't even finish it with three starving people. Free garlic bread is delicious, and service was great. Good food, good view, good people! Highly recommend this restaurant

  7. This restaurant reminds me of a ship because of how it sits near the water! The food is fresh and good, everything is made upon order. I imagined it to be a swanky place by my uncles descriptions but, it is casual dining. The proprietor is very hands on at the restaurant which is nice. If you're celebrating a birthday you receive a t-shirt. Whether hot or cold you can tell the food is prepared with a love for food and serving.

  8. Came here w my chicky back when I was dating Mr Money Bags Yachtster and he bagged the bill [score] and the food was pretty decent.

We sat inside because it kept raining on and off and the view was just of the cove and part of orchard beach.  Not bad, and i liked checking out the water fowl.  No seriously, I love ducks and shit.

We ordered some champagne b/c bad bitches like us are high rollers; along with the broiled mega plate thing for two- its nearly 100$ and you get lobster, stuff clams, shrimp, scallops, some sort of other white fish, rice, baller garlic bread, salad and other seafood pizzaz that i cannot recall.  I was mighty happy on a day well spent on the boat sippin the goose gittin loose, and then coming here for seafood and bubbly. Cheers Sunday!

Gotta say though, for the price, the food was NOT all that baller.  Yes it was good and we had plenty left over for both of us but for almost 100$?! Nah man, nahhhh.  I love my seafood but I've gotten it way cheaper and just as great, if not better quality.  Its all about the tourist crap here which is why everything is so hefty in price.

Unless you have a Suga Poppa footing the bill, I recommend checking other places for better prices.  Expect to shell out at least 40$ per person and thats without some lush life libations.  It's friggin valet parking too. Kinda annoying when ya gotta valet on a lazy sunday.
