What a fuc*ing view! Jeez! I love the ocean. I love rivers. I love any body of water. I just go crazy. All this water makes a world of difference. Views are spectacular! At one point, I thought about skipping Lunch and taking a dip in the water. But let me get it together and be a bit more realistic, because taking a dip, ain't happening. As you're driving to Half Moon, the elevation of the nearby road, offers a stunning view of the restaurant and the Hudson.
Half Moon delivers gorgeous water views and a Restaurant Week menu that circles around decent food (from what I saw). To begin, I settled for a delicate Green salad with jicama, mangoes and nuts with dressing in the side. For my entrée, I aimed for the Mixed Salad (again) with chunks of seafood that consisted of tuna, shrimp, salmon and sole. Greens were dressed nicely with sesame seeds in a soy dressing. And to finish, a nice, warm chocolate gooey cake with a scoop of raspberry sorbet, was waiting for me.
The restaurant mixes sophisticated and chic, both in interior design and atmosphere with a partial rustic setting. As chilly as it was, hearing the strong waves softly crashing against the rock wall, was refreshing. While eating my lunch, I tried to pick up my jaw several times, just because, views are amazing. What I also liked about Half Moon, is that no matter where you sit, the riverfront is right smack in front of your face. I loved it every second, and there was no escaping.
I will return, but, while I will agree with past reviews, food is decent, yet lacked in total elegance. Please, don't misunderstand me, my lunch was tasty. It just did not match the cosmopolitan feel of Half Moon. And should highly have an instant connection with such magnificent views.
My then gf now wife celebrated my birthday there 2 years ago. The venue's stellar service & famously reliably good food were indeed true. The famously beautiful on-the-Hudson views are inspiring & therapeutic. The gentle laid back aire makes me feel like I am part of the local community with all its easy-going ways immediately infectious. The outdoor eating area is very soft & wonderful with the indoor as classy & a/c-ed. Service is very well thought out with considerate delivery by all staff handling us at various stages. I forget the items I ordered other than they were so good we're going back to celebrate against next week.
Had the salmon and the steak…both were mediocre in taste. A little too bland for my liking. The highlight was my drink for sure, a jalapeno infused gin concoction. Also, the view..yes the view was fantastic
This place is amazing especially in the summer time they have a great watermelon salad and the sangria mixes are really tasty. The scene is amazing as you faze on the water and if you are sitting outside the breeze always makes the moment nicer will dining outside. My favorite part about this place are the side dishes and the bread with the oil and herbs the serve for starters. Friendly staff and great atmosphere
4-star for the view. Wild cherry cocktail is excellent. Bread is warm and the quality I wouldn't get in NYC. Took a drive up from the City on a nice day and enjoyed every minute, even if the food is just ok. Most of all, I loved the diversity: latinos, blacks, jews, pacific islanders, asians, gay, straight -all of us just kickin it.
This place was so beautiful!!! They had a patio where you can watch the sunset and it was stunning!! Everyone was talking pics by the water such a beautiful view! The restaurant itself was hugeeeee! After we took pics outside we just set by the bar. We had an order of calamari and guac and both were delicious very yummy! If I'm ever back in the area I will most deff visit!! I recommend this restaurant the views are breathtaking!!
Much like Sally Van de Hey, a girl from my high school, I get around (albeit in a more wholesome way). So that is why I found myself in Dobbs Ferry on a glorious Wednesday night to meet a friend for dinner at Half Moon.
It was a beautiful spring evening and we sat out on the deck while we ate. The views are absolutely stunning! You can see the Tappan Zee just a couple of miles away but you can also see down to the GW Bridge and One World Trade is visible, too! Watching the sun set over the Hudson is spectacular as well. So for ambiance, this place wins!
Service was pretty nice..unassuming but always there when you needed it. When I sat down, there was bread on the table along with two types of olive oil (including one spiced with red pepper, yum!) and some shredded cheese. The bread and oil was great.
We started with the lobster roll sliders, which were very tasty. I ate two of the three but one would have been enough because they were pretty generous portions.
My friend had the mussels and fries, which she enjoyed. I had a stuffed codfish wrapped in bacon which was very tasty. It was served in a deep pan and had shellfish, choriozo and veggies in it.
We were going to order dessert but then I realized we'd been there for almost two hours and I had a train to catch back to the city.
I'm sure when the weather is nice it's a tough ticket to get one of those outside tables but this would be a great way to spend a relaxing weekend afternoon.
Gorgeous views, relaxing environment, good food…this is a nice place!
My daughter in law picked this restaurant for our family Hudson Valley Restaurant Week outing.
First I have to say this is a beautiful restaurant with large windows overlooking the Hudson River. The restaurant is rather large and since it was a Wednesday evening I wasn't sure why I could only get a 7:15 reservation (I wanted earlier) even though when we arrived it wasn't crowded at all.
We started by ordering a pitcher of white wine Sangria with rum. I have to say it was very good – refreshing would be the word to describe it and in fact it would be perfect on a summer day.
We all ordered off the restaurant week menu. I started with the Chipotle Cesar Salad. It was a cesar salad that was a little spicy. It was different and I liked it. My daughter in law ordered the Pastrami Spring Rolls – I tried one and it was pretty good. Filled with pastrami and sauerkraut and deep fried, again, it was something different. My son ordered the bacon cheese burger dumplings. Again I tried one (how could I not?) but it didn't taste like a burger to me. In fact, it tasted more like fried dough than anything else.
For my entrée I ordered the Salmon – cooked medium (cause most restaurants overcook it and I HATE dry salmon). It came on a bed of spinach, tomatoes and corn that was cut off the cob. The salmon was cooked to my liking so I have no complaints there. My daughter in law ordered the cheese ravioli – I forgot what else it was stuffed with but she said it was good. My son had the half chicken which he liked as well.
I wasn't too thrilled with their dessert options. You had your choice of flourless chocolate cake – which I'm not a fan of, coconut something or other – I don't like coconut other than a pina colada, and flan – which I don't like at all. So I ordered the chocolate cake. Now normally flourless cake is extremely dry to me, but I have to say that this one wasn't. In fact it was quite good so I'm glad I made the right choice.
The service at this restaurant was pretty good – although having two waiters made things a little confusing. We gave our drink orders to one waiter and a few minutes later the other one came to take our orders. Also, I think they could have checked on us a time or two after our entrees were brought out but I can say that our plates were promptly removed for each course and our water glasses were filled regularly.
Overall I think this restaurant is great for a date night as I think it's extremely romantic, or if you want to have a meal with a terrific view.
