  1. Stopped in for the dollar taco's for lunch. Chicken taco's were amazing! I had 5 and I was full.
Nachos were great quality as well. Me and my friend shared some and got some guacamole on the side. It turned out to be more guacamole then nacho. which wasn't a bad thing because we topped off our tacos with them and some of their excellent red and green hot sauce. I personally like the red sauce the best. Not to say that the green sauce is bad, i just have to be in the mood for it in any Mexican restaurant.
Now I would have given them 4 stars but they took forever with the check. Even after I asked at the counter it still didn't arrive until 5 or 10 minutes later. Since you have to park on the street this can mean the difference between getting a ticket and not getting one if your parking meter runs out of time. Luckily I did not run my meter dry.
Also asked for rice milk which I love to have when I eat hot food because it takes the edge off the spiciness. They said they didn't have it and all they had was coffee. I'm not sure the waitress understood me and there may have been a slight language barrier (yet another reason I should learn Spanish). Another waitress did seem to speak perfect English though. Coffee was exceptionally good but it's not really something that goes well with tacos. I definitely saw people being served it later during my meal. Plus they didn't even bother asking how I wanted my coffee. They brought it to me light with sugar which was ok but they should have at least asked.
I do plan on going back one day even though the service turned me off a little bit. I will update if I try another dish  (eager to see how their quesidillas taste)  But they do make a damn good taco for a good price!

  2. Amazing, amazing tacos.  Went on a Sunday night around 7 and the place was packed with people doing take out and dining, too.  We waited around 15 minutes but it was so worth it.  We ordered 4 types of tacos, enchiladas verdes, and the tampiqueña.  The al pastor and chorizo tacos were the stand outs with flavorful meat and an added dash of green hot sauce and red if you're feeling like you need an extra kick. If you're looking for authentic, delicious, and cheap tacos you will be beyond pleased with Mexico Deli.

  3. I'd say 3.5 stars for this place, because they screwed up twice on my order. But I'm rounding down because I just noticed the error on my take out, and now I'm hungry and slightly annoyed.

I was very excited to have some authentic tacos, with more options than just chicken, beef, or pork. And at $1-$1.50 per taco, you can totally pig out for just a few bucks.

As everyone else said, the tacos are delicious! The red sauce is nice and spicy, and the green salsa verde is flavorful. Unfortunately, I ordered five tacos to get a good sample of their different varieties, and they only brought out four. I thought maybe they didn't write down all five varieties (and I was pretty full after four anyway). However, when I received the check, they did in fact charge me for all five. Oh well, no big deal. After all, it was only a dollar or dollar fifty (I'm not actually sure which one was forgotten).

I also ordered a steak burrito to take home for dinner. I know I said steak because the lady taking my order confirmed it twice. So just now I finally had a chance to dig in to my order. Everything looked good- giant burrito served with a side salad of lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado slices… But when I took my first bite, I noticed that the burrito was really bland, dry, and most importantly, not steak! They gave me a dry, chicken burrito instead! For shame… I was looking forward to a nice, juicy, steak burrito. I would have been better off going to Chipotle. At least there, I could have seen them making the whole thing in front of me.

Oh well, I'll probably be back since those tacos are just too cheap to pass up. Just beware if you're ordering take out that they don't screw up your order or give you less than you paid for.

  4. While I absolutely adore El Matador in Bloomfield, nothing can beat Mexico Deli's prices.

Came here on Saturday for lunch with my boyfriend. We go here a few times a month and we always just swoon over how much we love the food. I'm not sure if the ridiculously cheap prices ($1 tacos) make the food taste better [lol] but we enjoy every experience we have at Mexico Deli. The green sauce and the red sauce bottles that they leave on each table add extra flavor to the tacos (huge fan of dowsing the green sauce on my carnitas tacos).

We also always order guacamole and fruit juice in addition to the tacos, and by the end of our meal, I'm INSANELY full. The only issue we had on Saturday was more so due to miscommunication/language barrier (they gave us 15 tacos when we order 8…) but that's no problem at all!

All in all, if you love Mexican food, and happen to be in the area, I highly recommend you dropping by Mexico Deli. Here, $20 will fully satisfy two tummies.

  5. The. Best. Tacos. Period.

I literally am fighting the urge to NOT write this review, because I have waited so long to keep this place a secret. But it's out. And here it is.

    DOLLAR TACOS.

The place is authentic Mexican. Not at all like that gaudy Tex Mex place you know that gave you gas that one time. No.
This is the mother load, where sweet tendrils of pork and beef meet the sweet spot in your wallet.

You can get everything from Al Pastor tacos (season pork) to bistec (beef) for a dollar. Do you hear me? A dollar! So next time you're broke, just call in and order for pick up. They also have the eat in option, but people never want to leave 'cuz they're so busy eating tacos… So if you understand that struggle, plan accordingly. They have a guy who speaks English, just in case you guys freak out on the phone lol.

All in all, great place, stop by for a taco or two or seven. I won't judge. You'll probably see me eating in the corner too.

  6. Great little authentic Mecican place only a few miles away from me. Ordered 3 tacos to give it a try, all were seasoned well and was exactly what I wanted. The green and red sauces they place on the table took the tacos from a 3.5 to a 5! I would drink it! Can't wait to stop back for a full meal or snack on some tacos again!

  7. omg $1 authentic tacos!!!  I have not had some good authentic Mexican food since I moved from TX to NJ!  This spot is cheap and freaking delicious.  It was packed too when i walked in, so I knew I was going to enjoy my food.  We got chicken and Al Pastor.  Both delicious!  I loved the spicy sauce and green sauce combo.  Fresh toppings on top as well.  This will be a spot I may frequently go to!

  8. Passaic has SO many Mexican restaurants, it must be hard for one to stand out.

Mexican Deli Restaurant delivered in all areas  -service, food, and ambiance. It's nothing fancy but it has more space and cleanliness than other spots, where you are either afraid to sit or there is no seating.

My coworker and I ended up just sitting down for our meal. I had the chicken quesadillas. I was comparing them to one of my favorite mex spots in JC, where we order from often. These blew them away. The masa (tortilla dough) used was not thin and you can tell it was recently made, the quesillo and other ingredients used were so fresh. I thought I was going to take some to go but an order of 3 ($9) were gone by the end. You can never go wrong with cheap, authentic, Mexican food!
