  1. If you are looking for fresh and well prepared seafood, this place is it.

They sell fresh fish and prepared foods in the front part of the place and there is a restaurant area in the back.  Everytime we've gone here, the experience has been nothing but great.  I often try something different on the specials list and have never been disappointed.

Although all of the dishes I've tried have been excellent, one in particular stands out.  It was salmon grilled over a cedar block, served with steamed veggies and potatoes.  I could taste a hint of the cedar wood as the salmon melted in my mouth.

Oh and you have to try their Lobster Bisque.  It's to die for.

Seafood Gourmet is unpretentious and their outstanding food and service speak volumes for what this restaurant is all about.

I would highly recommend this restaurant (or the market) if you are in the mood for some fresh, well-prepared fish.

  2. I considered giving this restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 because the size of the restaurant is very tiny so even on a weeknight you need reservations, but their food is so good that I couldn't take even half a star away-regardless of how small the place is. All of their seafood is so fresh, I am constantly finding myself comparing other seafood restaurants to this one. I have literally never ordered something from here that I didn't like. This is my boyfriend's and my favorite restaurant to eat at, and we've been here dozens of times because of it. Their penne a la vodka with shrimp and scallops is a staple item that they always get right. The lobster bisque is very flavorful! They make buffalo shrimp that is so delicious and much better than any other buffalo shrimp I've ever had. And they always have really great specials! Definitely must try this place-but make sure you call first!

  3. We ended up here for my dad's birthday dinner since our original restaurant was closed for the summer.

I cannot stress how happy I am that we tried this place. The front is a seafood market and the back is a tiny restaurant.

The service was pretty good and they were fair to their customers. You could tell how popular this place was because of all the people waiting for their reservations and all the people who were turned away because there was no more room for them.

On to the food. My fellow yelpers ask rave about the lobster bisque so I decided to try it. Word of advice got the bisque, get it. You will not be disappointed. We also got the calamari and the New England clam chowder and they were good to.

For the main course, I had the swordfish steak, mom had the special salmon (forgot the name, cod river?), and my dad had the soft shell crab special (fried). This is where I decided to give the restaurant 4 instead of 5 stars. Although they were all pretty delicious, each dish felt a tiny bit bland in taste.

We were still very happy we tried this restaurant and we'll most likely come back to try different dishes but I still feel that it doesn't deserve that full 5 out of 5.

  4. The bazillion other reviews are pretty much spot on. This is a really awesome seafood store that has a really awesome seafood restaurant attached to it. If, however, you are looking for a fancy night-out-on-the-town kinda place, this most certainly is not it. However, if your goal is to chow on some really good, fresh seafood look no further. And, by the way, their carry out is also pretty outstanding. Reasonable, too.

  5. Best seafood market in my area and also makes the BEST lobster bisque I have ever had. Parking can be a little tricky around here being that this place is located on the main strip in Maywood.

The fish here is always fresh and flavorful. I love that they have a small dining room that you can actually eat there. It is BYOB and I would definitely take advantage of that. The restaurant is nothing fancy but its exactly what you are looking for in having a excellent dinner filled with seafood. I have tried the crab cakes here and they are chock full of lump crab meat and not a lot of fillers. That's exactly what I want when you eat a crab cake, not a mouthful of breading like some others I've tried locally.

The staff here is always friendly and willing to answer questions you may have. They do take out but no delivery unfortunately. If you are in the area come check this spot out. I can't imagine you leaving disappointed.

  6. Seafood Gourmet's small, no-frills dining room serves up delicious food.  In the back of the fish market, the dining room seats about 20 or so. They do take reservations, which I suggest for weekends or lunch rush times. The food is reasonably priced, fresh and tasty. I tried a special when I was there, salmon bruschetta.  The salmon had a crispy coating which paired well with the bruschetta mix, and it was all served over a creamy risotto. The wait staff was very friendly too.

  7. Amazing lobster bisque.  Really great lobster rolls too – the sandwich is huge though and could probably be split between two women. Price is very reasonable compared to what you pay for this stuff out in Long Island.

The seating here is very limited, so I usually get takeout.  Place gets packed by noon if you're going for lunch, so arrive early (I'd recommend getting there by 11:30am).  They do take reservations for dinner though and I would suggest you make them to avoid waiting for a table.

  8. Still THE place for fresh seafood in Bergen County. The rotating specials are very good, but grilled tuna, sea bass, calamari, and fish&chips are my favorites. Fish is consistently very fresh and simply but well prepared. I also come often to pick up fresh seafood from the market, ranging from prawns to scallops to arctic char to halibut. These guys know what they're doing.

The restaurant is very small, so get take out and give them a couple more minutes to have your food ready than they quote you.
