Really enjoyed this place…
Came here on a Friday night for dinner. This place is not very big and it was packed out. The hostess said that it would be about a 1 1/2 hour wait for a table which is ridiculous. There was no way that I was going to wait that long so we decided to just have dinner at the bar. We had to wait about 20 minutes to even grab a seat there . If you are coming here during peak hours try to plan ahead because the wait is very long.
The menu is huge! There were so many appealing things that I wanted to try I didn't know where to begin!
Apps:
Lobster enchilada: by far my favorite dish of the night! The lobster and the flavors were delicious. Ive definitely never seen lobster inside of an enchilada. Very nice touch.
Maduro: This was a HUGE Maduro stuffed with chicken and cheese. Really tasty.
And lastly I tried to get the Pan y puerco (translation bread & pork) but they had ran out. The apps here are pretty large and damn near entree size
Entrees:
Bistec: Steak was nicely cooked no complaints there.
Chicken: Good, tasted almost like chicken marsala to me.
Drinks:
Jalapeno Margarita & Mojito. The drinks were good and pretty strong which is always a plus. The bartender gave us marshmallows on a stick then did a cool trick where he poured 151 on the bar and lit it on fire. We then proceeded to roast the marshmallows until the fire went out. It was definitely fun.
Atmosphere wise the music is great especially if you like Spanish music. Its dark and a bit underground so it definitely does not feel like you are in Staten Island. Overall the food is great I definitely recommend!!!
Love this place. It is very small so make a reservation. Although it is small the tables aren't on top of each other which is really nice. The area isn't the best but if you go at night you can easily find street parking close by. Service was excellent and food was delicious.
Definitely go!
I think this is my first ever Staten Island restaurant review. There's a first for everything. I came here because it was my girlfriend's birthday. It is somewhat a small restaurant with a small bar, but I think the ambience is romantic, quiet, and lightly lit from the dim lights and candles.
We both started with White Sangria- Fresh fruits, house tequila, brandy, orange juice, apple pucker, triple sec and chardonnay.
I must say that was one delicious sangria. It was a well mix of all the ingredients in the drink. Nothing over powered each other.
For the appetizers, we went with the Arugula y Mango and the Enchilada.
Arugula y Mango- Fresh arugula, thin-shaved red onions, sliced mangos and jamón serrano tossed with oregano dressing and thin-shaved manchego cheese.
The salad is very refreshing. Salad dressing coated the salad very nicely. Good fresh ingredients.
Enchilada- Lobster meat rolled inside a flour tortilla with arugula, onion, tomato and melted manchego cheese.
Reading the menu, this sounded like an amazing dish to try out. When it came out it was piping hot and looked really good. Unfortunately when we ate it, it was overly salty. The salt just over took this dish. Couldn't really taste the flavors of the enchilada.
For our entrees. My girlfriend ordered the Paella and I ordered the Seafood Avocado.
Paella- Mussels, shrimp, clams, scallops, calamari, grilled Brazilian lobster tail and chorizo, slowly simmered in Bomba rice with lobster broth infused with Mancha saffron.
This Paella was huge for a one person. There was much seafood in this dish which is a plus. All the flavors just infused each other and the taste was amazing. The only down side was that the lobster tail. It was overly dry.
Seafood Avocado- Mussels, shrimp, clams, scallops and calamari sautéed with avocado cream sauce of purple onions, garlic, basil, tequila and lime juice, served over penne pasta.
Another huge plate of food. Yayy..more for me to wolf down. I loved this dish because of the avocado cream sauce. That sauce was delicious. There was so much more seafood than pasta which I was okay with because the seafood was yummy. The pasta was delish. The avocado cream sauce just made this dish like WoW!!
To finish out our meal..we had dessert. TA DA!!!
We both shared a Cuban Bread Pudding. This dessert is definitely different from a normal bread pudding. The sauce was very warm. The dessert was moist and not overly sweet. Overall it is a good dessert to have.
I think the service here was very good, attentive and very friendly.
Location wise it's very convenient because it is within walking distance of the Staten Island Ferry.
Very good Spanish food here.
I have been here three times, and while I didn't always love it, I understand why everyone does.
It is a tapas restaurant, and they have a large choice of tapas on their menu, that changes from time to time. Every time my family goes they get the baby lamb chops, a sure hit. This last time around we tried the baby back ribs with mango BBQ sauce, and the meat literally fell off the bone (You couldn't get it from the serving plate to your own!) We also had the fried calamari, breaded in cornmeal which was cooked just right (not rubbery or overcooked which can easily happen) and came with a tangy tartar sauce.
For an entree I still went with some tapas, they had a special baked lobster tail with a rosemary infused goat cheese. It was good, but pretty tiny. For a side we had the seafood risotto, which I would definitely recommend. It was super cheesy and had a generous amount of seafood in it.
We had some mojitos which were good, but pretty full of ice so not too big for the price.
Hands down, the best part of the meal was dessert. We had the mudslide, a warm chocolate cake with what seemed like brownie chunks along with marshmallows on top. My only complaint was that since it was so delicious, I wish it had been bigger. Alas, that would have come with a larger calorie count, so maybe it is all for the best!
Love the ambience, dim lighting and Spanish guitar. I came on a Monday night at 845pm with one other person and was seated right away. The waitress got busy immediately when we sat down. We asked about the prix fixe menu and it took 10 minutes to find us the menu. We ordered drinks and the appetizers for there before the alcohol. There were no water or drink refills and they could've easily upsold. The waiters were kind but there was no rhythm or synchcronicity between them. Not sure about management. The food was ordered based off of other yelp recommendations, shrimp stuffed plantains, lamb chops and paella. All were delicious however the lobster tail was over cooked and chewy, so was the shrimp. The scallops were cooked pefectly. There were clams and mussels that were tiny and not impressive. The tree leches cake was awesome as was the beso coffee. Stars off for the rubbery pieces in the paella and spotty service
This place is absolutely nothing short of amazing! If I could give six stars I would, and I'm definitely making a trip back! After dining here, we still rave about that guacamole and those quesadillas.
Came here for a day-trip, wasn't expecting anything too amazing, but my gosh this was too good to be true. I'm going to skip straight to the food – I ordered the jalapeño margarita and it was perfect. Had that kick and was strong (I'm a big girl, I can't hold my liquor well, but I love strong drinks). We weren't too hungry and ended up ordering the quesadillas and homemade guacamole served with handmade tortilla chips. I know we kept it super basic, but we finished every morsel. It was the best guac i have ever had, and I still dream about those quesadillas. Would have ordered more food, but we wanted to head to smorgasburg later like proper fatties.
Decor is super cute and intimate with this interesting art on the walls. Perfect for a date. The live music was pleasant and I don't remember it being too loud or intimidating to my ears. Service was wonderful, and I appreciated that the bathroom was super clean. Good location too, not far from the ferry. Needless to say, I love this restaurant. I'm so happy we stumbled upon this little gem 🙂
Very good! Came on a Thursday night, there was absolutely no wait, which was good. Tried to make a reservation, but they only do reservations for groups of five and more. We were greeted by a very nice bartender as soon as we walked in, and soon after by the hostess. After sitting down we ordered a pitcher of white sangria, which was delicious! And wasn't too strong, just enough. After looking over the two pages of tapas we decided to order a bunch of stuff instead of an entree. The waiter brought the stuff out after we were finished with them, so there wasn't too much on our table. We started off with complimentary bread and a olive oil, which was very good! Then came this bread with shedding pork, and cheese, that was delicious! Must order. The empanadas were good also, and had a nice kick to them, loved the sauce that was on the plate. Chorizos were delicious, and so was the monduros with chicken. We also ordered the rice & beans, it had absolutely no flavor! Which was surprising. The waiter was nice enough to take it off the check. For dessert we got the coconut flan, oh my god this is a MUST ORDER! Delish!!!!
Overall it was a nice relaxing night out, great sangria, good food, nice looking restaurant, and the service was great! Very attentive, everyone had a smile on their face.
We will definitely be back.
This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Staten Island, I understand to most this isn't saying much but hear me out! I've been here several times and I've never been let down.
You absolutely have to get the lobster enchiladas, served with two and the rellano de gambas, which is three shrimp wrapped in plantains with a mango sauce. I know tapas are meant to be shared but letting other have some is a challenge.
I also have to recommend the lamb chops. I'm new to the lamb game but Beso has made me a convert. My lamb was so tender it came off the bone with ease.
I've also gotten the crab guacamole. Though the guacamole was great I wouldn't recommend because they use flour tortillas for the chips. I didn't think the two complimented each other well. I wanted a crisp corn chip to scoop up the incredible guacamole, but really is there such thing as bad guacamole?
I also wasn't impressed by the classic sangria. It was a little too sweet for me so it's really a matter of preference.
The service has always been attentive and prompt. Eating out is meant to put you at ease and Beso definitely does.
I highly recommend this restaurants and just steps from the ferry there is no excuse to not take a free boat to this restaurant.
