Segovia was a good call by my Dad on Saturday.
I'd never been here and I am really happy that I now know about it.
We arrived at Segovia and grabbed a parking spot right in front of the outdoor seating in the front.
Then we went inside and were seated right away, although there was a part in front of us who weren't able to be seated because their whole group hadn't arrived yet.
My parents ordered a half pitcher of sangria, which actually comes in a cute mini pitcher. They said they enjoyed it. They also said it was like drinking fruit punch, so I guess it depends what type of sangria you like. I like the winiery sangrias over fruity.
We started off with the raw oysters and escargot. Both were excellent. The oysters were shucked properly and were fresh. The escargot was a treat that I haven't had in a long time, and I was equally happy to dip the bread into the juice afterwards.
Salads were typical, but I enjoyed it.
My scallops entree was excellent. The scallops were cooked perfectly and there was an abundance of them! Segovia scores points for quantity and quality! It's not too often they go together. There were string beans on the side and and plenty of rice.
I tasted my mom's entree, which I believe was the sea bass pescadora (to her disappointment, they were out of red snapper), but it was surprisingly amazing! It had mussels, shrimp, etc. in this delicious red sauce. Amazing. More bread dipping 🙂
I think my dad got veal, but I didn't try it. He ate the whole thing.
Also, saw a couple dining on some hefty lobsters with the bibs and everything. Def. made a mental note of that one.
My parents ordered tartufo afterwards. Because of all the bread dipping, I passed it up.
I will definitely be back, but I took off 1 star because I thought the service was slow at times.
Good food! Huge portions! Kind of expensive! But that's okay if you want to take half your dinner home for dinner. I wouldn't mind having smaller portions, but the food was great! I hear the sangrias are great, but I had already ordered a beer and was going to drive so alas was only going to have one drink. Anyway, the interior has a nice elegant feel but not overly fancy.
I had the "Ternera Madrileña" and as someone who rarely has veal I can't comment on how true the flavor was, but it tasted great and came with rice, spinach, and homemade chips. So much food! My friend got the seafood paella, which is another dish of 2-3 servings, served in a pot where you could delve out servings. Another friend got the steak/beef sirloin, which comes out with a hot plate where you can put cuts of steak on to heat up yourself. It was practically a whole cow leg, but I don't know if it's traditional to cook each piece at the table, but it seems impractical anyway.
So it was a lot of good food I have to admit, but yes, maybe too much is my only complaint. We all wanted to share our dishes but we were already full of our own. It was quite an experience though!
My boyfriend has raved about this place so much I was nervous to come and be let down… But they did not at all!!!
I will start with the sangria, it was awesome! We got the red small pitcher and it was plenary for two people, delicious and strong!!
The food… WOW. We had the Clams oreganata and they were cooked to perfection, even used the left over sauces to dip our fresh warm bread in. My boyfriend devoured a stuffed lobster and I got the shrimp in white wine and parsley. Everything was delicious!
The servers and host were great, they explained the food and gave good recommendations. I always felt like they were pay attention to our refills and clearing plates!!
I have been a fan of this place for as long as I can remember.
Solid place to go for both seafood and red meat dishes.
Over the years, the food has never changed and has always been consistently good.
Great for dates, dinners with friends and small parties.
The other day, I tried the oysters here and stuffed scallop appetizer for the first time.
The oysters were extremely fresh and delicious.
The scallop appetizer was amazing but extremely filling–literally could have been a main dish.
I have also tried quite a few other appetizers here and have never once been disappointed!
As always- for dinner I go for the churrasco- medium-rare which is always cooked to perfection!
The bar is also a very nice area to sit back, relax and enjoy a cocktail with a friend. The bartender was extremely pleasant and his knowledge on the wines they carry is just superb! So if your a wino like myself, you will absolutely enjoy a conversation with this gentleman. I wish I knew him name…
During the weekend, be prepared because the place gets extremely busy! Regardless of how big or small your table is, you will be rushed so they can sit the next set of people.
I have always preferred to go during the weekday just for this reason.
I was really disappointed this time around with the service it was slow and the waiter was very inattentive. He paid more attention to the bigger tables and the bus boys were more helpful. There is no reason why I had to flag them down for water three times.
The food was good but for the price idk if it was truly worth it. The Rockefeller oysters were okay and really overpriced in my opinion. I think if the service was good I would've came back but not sure now.
No reason why I would be spending greater then 100$ between 2 people and not getting good service!
Segovia! So we went here for my birthday and it was a good time! Deceivingly popular and packed, as I make my commute to and from work passing by this place thinking, "I wonder how that place is doing…" Well , wonder no more!
So one tip is that I don't believe they take reservations so stake your claim and be prepared to wait a while. You can pick where you want to sit – either in a main restaurant area that can get really packed and loud or a more private bar area off to the side of the restaurant. We chose the private bar area.
After we sat down we ordered some excellent food, including paella and stuffed lobster. I believe they are predominantly a seafood restaurant so they really back up their talk with the great quality of seafood. We also ordered a rack of ribs. Personally, my favorite was the stuffed lobster. All servings of food were generous and we ended up taking some of it home.
Anyway, it looks like a first come-first serve kind of place so make you call and ask about that before making your decision because it will get packed! I do recommend this place.
In the mood for Spanish food and sangria? Come to Segovia's.
Seafood is their specialty in my opinion and you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not getting the lobster (in whatever form you so choose).
The sangria is excellent $19 for a small pitcher- Not bad. Their surf n turf is really great. 10 oz filet mignon with a 12 oz lobster tail for $40 – Now that's incredible.
Entrees come with soup or salad and chips and yellow rice.
The service is very attentive. The waiter checked on us frequently and our water glasses were constantly being refilled.
Parking can be annoying because their lot is very small but there's a street across from them you can park on.
I have fallen in love with Segovia Restaurant! When I'm in the mood for Spanish food this is where I'm coming for now on.
My girlfriend and I came here on a Friday night and the place was packed, we put our names down and grabbed a drink at the bar and before you know it our table was ready. We were seated in the corner and it was a bit cramped but we made the best of it. The waiter came over a brought us warm bread and butter to start and we placed an order for calms oreganta and the escargot ( my favorite ). The clams were delicious with a nice bread crumb toppings and served with a white wine sauce. The escargot was served in an extremely garlicy sauce and they were extremely tender and scrumptious.
We decided to order a small pitcher of sangria for our main course and let me tell you just a few glasses and you are going to be lit! I ordered the stuffed lobster and my friend ordered the surf and turf for our entrees. I believe all entrees are served with a soup or salad, Spanish rice, homemade potato chips, and steamed veggies. Before the entrees came out our waiter tied bibs around our necks so we didn't make a mess of ourselves.
My stuffed lobster was such a beautiful sight as it was carried to our table, all I kept repeating was OMG! My friends surf and turf looked so delicious as well we couldn't wait to sink our teeth into both dishes! Sharing is caring so we both tried a little bit of each others meals, her steak was so tender and perfectly cooked. We did a decent job of devouring our meals and were so stuffed that we didn't have any room left in our stomachs for dessert.
I absolutely can't wait to come back to Segovia!
