  1. I think they are as good as it gets when it comes to (authentic) Indian Lunch Buffet!

And sometime next month, there will be a brand spanking new Patel Brothers opening up next door so you can walk off all that food afterwards.  I love getting lost in an Indian cash and carry (grocery stores).  They also sell produce and milk at super low prices.

Back to the buffet.  They are always packed.  Come early or you may need to wait a bit.  Their dining room is surrounded with glass windows so plenty of sunlight instead of the typical dungeon feel of most other Indian restaurants.

Selections – abundant.  And they change it quite often.  A good mix between veg and meat dishes, sweet and savories.  In total they have almost 20 (more if you include the sweets) choices.  Their staples are the naan (not the best but oh well), 2 kinds of rice (plain white and fried rice), tandoori chicken, paneer dish (different sauces).

I especially love the veggie selections – they serve the most interesting vegetables I don't even know what they are but I love to try new things.  Try and little bit and if you like it, come back for more!

Their servers refilled our water endlessly and change our plates frequently.  Parking is also abundant and not super tight which is a big plus, you need room to get back to your car after all that food.

  2. Wow loads of options and delicious and authentic food.  Definitely go for the buffet since you can try everything.  There are so many options I can't even name them all.  Chole tikki. Pav bhaji. Chicken kebab and chicken fry.  Chicken tikka.  Paneer masala. Paneer burji. Daal.  Okay you probably think I named them all but there are more options.  Two diff rices and naan of course. If you want your Indian fix come here asap. Only drawback I would say is it's not spicy for my taste but they have loads of mango pickles and spices to top off all your foods.  Will definitely leave with a food coma!

  3. I offer this simple test of an Indian lunch buffet: is there lamb? The price at Rasoi II is just $10 so you already know the answer: nope, only veg and chicken curries. But the gole gappa (little crunchy hollow balls filled with potato and chutney) appetizer they bring around is extra yummy, all the hot masala chai you can drink is included, the rices are nice, there are some good salads, I liked the rasmalai dessert and the hot food was a-ok.

Full bar but , despite the Heineken sign in the window, nothing on draft.

Vegetarian rating: 5 stars, many choices like dal, aloo and biryani, plus everything is well marked.

The naan is lightly buttered and good, but ask for roti on your way in, that's a better choice.

I was more than a little puzzled by the Szechwan chicken on the buffet! This ain't no fusion joint 😉

  4. This is probably my favorite place to get good Indian Food. There are a few locations in NJ, but I frequently go to the Oak Tree location. If you're not familiar with Indian food, I would check out the buffet. You can sample a few dishes to see what you like and don't like. I love their bread, samosas, and lentil dishes. The chicken tikka masala is delicious. (when I ate meat) They have lots of Vegetarian options too! Service is good, but not five star worthy. The decor could probably use an upgrade, but it's clean inside.

Traffic by Rasoi can be heavy, so make sure you've had a good meal and keep calm. It's tested my patience before! You can also order take-out if you'd like to eat it elsewhere. I can't wait to go back!

  5. Went for girls night out last night. Service was good but a little slow. Food was not spicy in the least. I know one of our party asked for the food to be mild, but hers was beyond tasteless, which was sad.

We started with Samosas and chicken pakora. Both had no spicing whatsoever. We were surprised.  The person who had requested mild food ordered the Shrimp Vindaloo. I had warned her that Vindaloo can be hot, so she asked for mild, but it was truly tasteless. The other member of our party ordered Lamb Vindaloo, and it was very mild and rather disappointing for her.

I ordered Chicken Makhani. No spice, very sweet. Fresh, good, but no bite to it whatsoever. I was a little disappointed.  I really think the only spicy thing on the table were the crackers. Maybe it was because we were non-Indians? I don't know.

    We didn't order dessert.

  6. I love Rasoi.  I've been here multiple times and everyone I bring loves it as well.  I ordered my go-to chicken tikka masala and plain naan the last time I was there, with gulab jamun for dessert.  The chicken tikka masala is PERFECT and the naan is soft and big.  We also really like the garlic naan Jerez. We always really enjoy the meat platter as an appetizer which comes with chicken, lamb (although I don't eat it), salmon, shrimp, etc.

The food is reasonably priced and we always like the service.   The place is always filled with people.  We've been to many Indian restaurants both in and outside of Edison, and Rasoi is my personal top.  We have never been disappointed by a single item.  I am honestly shocked that this restaurant doesn't have a higher rating.

I will always come back to Rasoi.

  7. A former diner which is now hugely popular with local residents and those who like authentic Indian food.  Oddly, the lunch buffet is only good–the chicken tikka is very good and the vegetarian options are good and numerous, but the entrees are underspiced, not varied enough and the bread not warm enough.

Come early for dinner to avoid long waits. If you are not a lover of spicy food, speak up, as their baseline of heat is aimed at South Asians. Excellent chicken with lentils; hot bread, chicken tikka, tandoori dishes, pakoras, samosas. Can get loud and smoky from the many sizzling tandoori dishes.

Large portions at reasonable prices. Not byo. Very good service.

Very large menu. I wish they delivered.

  8. I'm a big fan of Rasoi II, my then boyfriend, now fiance was hesitant to bring me here because he felt it was too divey for me! Little did he know at the time that I love divey places! This is now one of our regular spots!
This place used to be a diner now converted to an Indian Restaurant, they have a daily buffet, but on the weekends the buffet is really good and has many different Indian, Indo-Chinese dishes along with some desserts!
We have come for regular meals as well. We are often the only non – Indians in the place (but that is surely changing as word gets out). We love to eat where the locals eat. The staff always recognizes us and treats us very well. It is always packed in here, even during the weekdays, but we have never had to wait for a table. The staff always makes good suggestions for us and the kitchen has never left us down! My favorite thing here is the Lamb Biriyani, the Raita they make compliments it so well!
The restaurant itself is somewhat dated and not fancy at all, we were here at Christmas – they even had Christmas decorations up! (Everybody likes gifts and food) It's always clean, they recently re – did the bathrooms.
It's a must do when in the area!
