  1. The other reviews are correct: the fish is on point. Casual dining establishment away from the main Bloomfield Ave restaurant drag, but worth a visit especially if you're in the mood for take-out. If you need to dine-in, however, there is seating and a large TV that was playing a nice Josh Groban DVD at the time I visited.

Two entrees came out to $30 for dinner so I may not visit as often as I'd like, but it's worth it if you have a deep craving for good fried fish. Seems like the sandwiches are a much more affordable option for those on a college student budget or mentality. At checkout the cashier incorrectly told me I owed them just $8, and against my id's desires the superego took over and told him he was wrong. Darn. 🙂 Still worth it to know that there is a place like this close to my home.

I must say, you guys are the best at what you do.  I order take out from you this go around and boy!!!!!!!  you guys are Amazing. I got the whiting, mac and cheese, gave the cole slaw another try and everything was off the charts.  I really enjoy every bit of what I took home.  I can't wait to see you guys again.

I found out about this place from a co-worker who says that Crockett's has the best fried fish in town. They are located at 162 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair. I went this past Friday to check'm out.  It's reminds me of a southern place where you can smell the fried goodness stores away before you enter the establishment.

There have a pretty good selection for you to choose from on their menu such as fish sandwiches, dinners, sides & desserts, trays, drinks and they even cater.  I got the tilapia sandwich and a side order for cole slaw.  They gave me 3 pieces of tilapia, which were a pretty decent size and the slaw was good but for me, it had too much mayo.

Here's the beginning of a new relationship with Crockett's!!!!!

  3. Fish Fry, Fried Fish with a blend of Caribbean twist. It's a decent place. It has a home kitchen cooked food vibe to it, and it seems to be family run, so there's passion in what they make. So far impressed. They had lots of regular customers and the are very friendly. We feel at ease here, and do not feel rushed not delayed. We recommend this place. Cheers

  4. I had the catfish sandwich, while the wife had the whiting dinner platter, and we shared the mac and cheese, collard greens, and potato salad sides.

Over all it was okay, the breading was nicely done on both fish – well cooked, not too oily and/or not over cooked and dry.  Seasoning was a bit on the bland side, definitely needed the hot sauce (but isn't that always the case at any fish fry spot?).  The collard greens were a bit watered down and needed more flavor.  The mac and cheese was no where near my standards (both wifey and I agreed Popeye's mac and cheese is better).  The potato salad was good.

  5. Someone recommended this place to my boyfriend so we gave it a shot one night for dinner.  Let's just say this, you are a fool if you don't like this place.

YES it's a hole in the wall hood spot with no organization, but it doesn't deter the folks that come here. And after my first experience, its doesn't for me either.

    TIPS:
    1. Call ahead.
    2. When they say "it'll be ready in 30mins" get there in 15mins, pop your head in pick up window, and tell them your name and wait another 15mins at the restaurant. It's the only way you can avoid waiting too long.
    3. They ask for your name over the phone, but remember your order. When it's ready they'll sometimes call out the order instead of the name. (lol)

You can't beat it. 2 Sandwiches, 1 order of steak fries and 1 order of mac & cheese = less than $24. And it's A LOT of fish!
