  1. Drove a long  way to get my favorite item "alcapurrias de Guineo".   7am Sunday morning  I was out the Door to get these precious morsels of deliciousness. They only make a few of this type of alcapurria. The others are made with yucca which I don't care for. I also got morcilla, Pasteles and mondogo in case someone came over I would have food. No cooking for me on Sunday!!!!
The first thing I tasted was the alcapurria. What a disappointment! What happened to the incredible flavor. I could tell by the color that something was not right. They were too light in color. The Ones made with banana are darker in color.  This was definitely NOT GUINEO. It was mixed with something that wasn't tasting so good. Already things were not going my way.  I tasted the morcilla and it was still good. Maybe somebody makes  it for them outside the place because it was still as good as before. Later on in the day I served a friend one of the Pasteles and she said she could not finish it. She had only taken a few bites. I asked what's wrong,  let me taste it. Well after my first taste I could see why she didn't  want  to finish it.  It was almost without salt and without flavor. I tried putting salt on it AND hot sauce and still it was inedible. I threw the other one in the garbage. $2.50 shot to hell.
For dinner I decided to have a cup of mondongo. Well it wasn't the worst but it wasn't the best. AND THERE WAS VERY LITTLE TRIPE IN IT. I got served a bunch of starchy vegetables!  What another disappointment.  Another $4.50 shot.

Fellow yelperrs had given this place a few bad reviews but I refused to believe that my favorite place had gone down the tubes. Well IT IS TRUE. THE FOOD SUCKS.
The only redeeming item was the morcilla. I would not order ANYTHING ELSE in that place. Perhaps the lechon  because it still looked good, but who knows how it tastes!  Can't trust the place for good food anymore. I am so glad I didn't invite someone out to dinner to my favorite place. I would have been so embarrassed.   Unfortunately my favorite place is no longer. I am DONE.
Could fellow yelpers tell me what their experience has been here and can you guys recommend a better place?

  2. Crispy chicken! I really like their chicken and the sesame drink they make is delicious.

  3. WOW I had the best tostones and peril here.  The tostones was golden fried and not dry and the peril was just so juicy and the piece of skin that comes with it was just soooo crispy and juicy with very little fat on it. I wish they gave more that what they did as the place is really small.

For only $3.00 you get at least albs of plantain which was also really good.

I wish I was around more often so I can stop by for tostones and peril.

One thing that would work out here is if they get a liquor license cuz an ice cold beer would go great with peril.

If i'm ever around the area you can guarantee to see me back here again!!!

  4. After reading about this place on NYT as being the temple of pork, I had to
see it for myself. It was exactly what I expected and then some. The fried pork
skin and deep fried pork chunks were delightful as well as the tostones and
yellow rice and beans. The garlic sauce was so good that came with the tostones
I dipped everything in it. $25 for a ton of food for two people and enough for
two lunches of leftovers for the next day. About 30 minute wait to be seated but
    well worth the wait.

  5. This little Puerto Rican restaurant is great for a quick bite to eat. Came here for Sunday evening dinner and was immediately seated and attended to. A lot of the food is already prepared in large quantities, so it comes out fast. I tried the the Sopa de Mondongo (soup) and Mofongo con Pernil (plantains mashed with pork served in a cake form). Never had Puerto Rican food before, so I can't speak to the authenticity of it, but the food was certainly good and the portions were generous. Definitely recommend trying the Mojito sauce (garlic sauce), it has a sharp bite to it and went well with the Mofongo.

  6. Good food for a good price. I work in the neighborhood so my co-workers and I order the lunch specials which feed at least 3 people and leave plenty of leftovers. I've eaten in the restaurant 2-3 times and the service is fairly good.

  7. Hands down best lechon in the city.  We travel from Queens to the Bronx just for let you know. The lechon has very crispy skin and they sell it by the pound. Ake sure to get some mojito for the lechon. The arroz con gandules is also very tasty and goes perfectly with the pork.  The only bad thing is parking.  No lot so have to look for street parking.

  8. Ordered take out from here cheap and good. Order the mofongo
