Late night Great Neck dinner with a friend. I got the steak fajitas and she got the nachos. Before you get your food, they bring you chips and salsa. My steak fajitas was a huge portion, so it lived up to the price that way ($18), but quality-wise, it was underwhelming and unimpressive. It comes with a side of rice, beans, and subpar guac. My friend's nachos were a sad state of affairs. It was 7 bucks, which in the city you'd get an entire plate of deliciousness, but this plate had literally 7 chips on it with some stuff on it. Overall, with Chipotle right across the street, I'd skip this place and head straight there, especially since it's half the price for better guac (the most important part), unless you're specifically looking for a sit-down booth-style Mexican dinner experience.
Spacious restaurant that's great for groups. The only thing I really liked about this place was that they gave us water in cute mason jars.
I don't know how, but the guacamole was tasteless. I think eating a plain avocado would have tasted better. I also ordered a mushroom quesadilla and I have to say… I prefer the quesadillas from Taco Bell. I came with a large group and every entree seemed to come with the same sides: some rice and beans, salad, sour cream and a scoop of guacamole all on one giant plate.
Final verdict: bland food that comes in huge portions. No bueno.
Senor Nacho needs a lot of help if they plan on remaining in business for more than a few months. While I was thrilled at the prospect of a very conveniently located Mexican restaurant, and wanted to love it, unfortunately, after trying it, I cannot say that I would likely ever return…Let me break it down:
1. Decor: While the restaurant seems to be very clean, there is a clear lack of any actual "decor", nothing on the walls, don't recall hearing any music, just very non-descript. It could use some sprucing up to make you feel like you're in a Mexican restaurant.
2. Drinks: We ordered the "small" pitcher of margaritas, which was i think $20 for 32 ounces. However, after filling two 8 oz glasses up, the pitcher was pretty much empty. Thus, I don't think we actually got what we paid for there…When the pitcher arrived only 3/4 full, I knew something was off.
3. Service: The waiter was nice and all, but the food took about 45 minutes to get to our table. That is an incredibly long time for Mexican food, especially when the waiter brought the dishes out one at a time, very odd. Do they not have serving trays to ensure everyone gets hot food, and that I don't have to stare at my dining companions while waiting for my food? very odd.
4. Food: The menu itself is pretty good, a great collection and variety of standard mexican fare, all reasonably priced. We started w/ the table side guacamole, which was by FAR the best part of the meal, it was all downhill from there. My wife got the combo platter w/2 burritos and 1 enchilada, all w/different fillings. When it arrived, it was just 3 items on a plate, no eye for presentation. Everything tasted exactly the same, and the "red" sauce on top tasted like it was out of a can. I had the chicken fajitas, a fairly easy dish which is kinda hard to mess up. They came out on one of those sizzling plates, however the plate was not sizzling, and the chicken, while fairly flavorful, was dried out. They offer a choice of flour or corn tortillas, and my friend being gluten free ordered the corn tortillas for his steak fajitas, however, they brought him flat corn taco shells basically, epic fail. The worst worst worst part of the meal would have to be the "sides" which came with every meal. A tiny plate of rice (which for everyone was completely undercooked, and tasteless), along with some refried beans. The funniest part of the meal was the accoutrements for the fajitas. A saucer sized dish with (i kid you not), one teaspoon of sour cream, one teaspoon of guacamole, 1/2 teaspoon of pico de gallo (i think i counted a total of 4 tiny pieces of tomato), and about a teaspoon of shredded lettuce. All I could do was laugh. How expensive are these items that they cannot serve you more than a teaspoon of SOUR CREAM???
Overall, most of the food/sauces tasted like they came out of a can. The presentation was poor, the food was bland and tasteless, completely uninspired. Given their convenient location and the lack of any mexican cuisine in great neck, I truly hope that they can fix these issues, otherwise, it will be yet another failure at that cursed location.
Had a fantastic experience at this spot, great food, excellent service.. I would definitely go to this restaurant again and recommend it to all around the area. Overall, the bill was relatively fair considering the vast amount of food my colleagues ordered. They did a good job with the cooking and even giving an above average mix of Tequila. Try it out!!
I lived nearby when this place first opened. It is standard Mexican food for Long Island. Nothing particularly stood out and it wasn't memorable. I thought it would have closed after a few months but it looks like Señor Nacho beat the odds.
I've tried…I've really tried with this place, but they're getting worse.
First off, the hours they're open is a lie – the website says they're open at certain times, but it's not true. You call and they say on Saturday and Sundays they're open from 4 to 9 – also not true; they open whenever they damn well feel like. We tried to do delivery on the weekends several times – ordering at exactly 4pm and having it go through, only for the company that does their online ordering to call me and say they're not answering to take the order. 5:15pm rolls around and not one person from Senor Nacho has called me. I call them and they're like "oh no we're not open until 5pm". It takes him 10 minutes to find my computerized order and then he's like "sorry we don't have a delivery person on, you will have to do pick up in 40 minutes". I'm sorry – how you do you not have someone to do deliveries at all times – especially on a Sunday when you only open for 5 hours. What the actual hell?
Food wise, their tacos are a joke – you get none of the fix-ins and barely any meat. They have stopped giving out the extras they used to and upped their prices. $11 for a cheese quesadilla – you've got to be out of your mind. I know you're in Great Neck, but we're not all rich. The tostadas, nachos, and refried beans are good, so are their burritos, but that's really it. The good does not outweigh the bad here.
The service in-restaurant is a joke. They have hardly an servers and the place is empty all the time. Yet, how come it takes more than 40 minutes to get our food sometimes when we order a taco or something that takes a few minutes, like a quesadilla. They are also rude as hell and i've had friends who have bad experiences with them.
I had hoped a good place would replace Pancho's and it's true they are marginally better, but there is no way this place will be able to survive in town, with those prices and their bad service. I give them a year at most.
Looks can be deceiving. I ordered a taco salad and it looks ssssssooo good. Then I started to notice the old lettuce. Plus there were so many onions in the salad and the guacamole that it was burning my mouth and repeated on me all day. There really was not much meat on there either, mostly lettuce tomato and onion. ill pass thanks…
