“Whether it be in Soho, Lower East Side, or midtown at 6 Columbus Hotel, the quality if my ISE Ebi Sashimi remains the same.”
“We ordered the ankimo, toro tataki, two portions of Hokkaido uni (they didn't have Santa Barbara uni that day), and of course the ox tail rice.”

Although I have never dined here, Blue Ribbon offers some of the freshest, if not the freshest, sushi in the city for pickup.
I start with their house salad, which is as simple and clean as it is delicious. Scallion, avocado and a ginger-soy dressing, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds all work perfectly.
As for the rolls, the spicy blue crab and spicy lobster rolls are my absolute favorite. These two rolls live up to their high price points with their fresh flavor. I've had the spicy tuna, but I did not find it to be exceptionally better than any other tuna rolls at standard sushi spots.
It's a true treat to visit Blue Ribbon! If you're in the mood for a drink, their fully-stocked bar inside the Columbus Hotel looks intimate and cozy!
My parents came to visit and my father was insistent that this place has the best fried chicken in New York City. I was like.. But dad, its a sushi restaurant. My father said that his friend, who knows what he's talking about when it comes to food, was positive that the fried chicken here would be amazing.
So my parents and I came with my bf and none of us ordered sushi- we got two orders of fried chicken, a tempura soft shell crab, and an oxtail fried rice. We thought we would have to order more, but the servings were huge and we didnt finish everything. The fried chicken was very good but not as good as Popeyes. Sigh.. What has life become when youre snobby about fried chicken??!!
Blue ribbon is very good but not cheap. They take reservations for 5 or more people. The shrimp dumplings were disappointing. And I found a bone in one of my sashimi pieces. They apologized and comped a piece of uni I had ordered. Excellent uni. The scallop covered in tobiko and mayo was excellent. The sashimi in general was good. My favorite was the grilled squid. A huge portion covered in garlic and ginger. Would definitely get that again. The sakes are pricey but good.
When everything else sucks I can always count on seafood to cheer me up!
I had a Pretty tasty dinner here!
Went recently…Tried a few of there rolls…mushroom salad and lamb chops… The LAMB-CHOPS with sweet potatoes yams was the highlight! Service was alright- attentive but not over the top….They managed to find a spot on the roof top even though it was very busy by the sushi bar…
blue ribbon offers a great atmosphere…service and good food… The seafood soup is a must have! very light and mixed with REAL seafood! Not cheap but worth the price!! soup serves up to two people!
YESSS sushi in New York! This was one of the few spots we tried while visitng last week, from great sushi-land of California (sorry it's true, we have fish).
My friend decided on this place, after back and forth of what looks best on Yelp. We were pleasantly surprised, with such a cute ambiance and cozy, with a pretty full house even on July 4th. We opted to eat sushi instead of fireworks, whatever (don't be on the Manhattan side when trying to watch fireworks in NYC, noted).
The sushi was excellent and service as well. Yes, it's a bit pricey but whatever! Definitely go if you want a nice dinner with a date, friend, side piece (a good one), whatever! They only serve sake and beer, so get wasted somewhere else you drunks!
BANG, it's a Merlin 5 for this place! This is probably my favorite sushi restaurant in the entire city right now. I briefly considered docking a star for slightly problematic P2P (Price to Portions) ratio, but the quality of the food more than cancels it out. Also love the internal decor. It's not just dark mood lighting that makes you feel like characters from a Japanese crime thriller are in the back plotting a racketeering scheme. The place also has NO SIGNAGE on the outside, so it feels like you have to be "in the know" to, uh, know about the place.
I recommend the sashimi deluxe, dumplings, the quail egg with tartare, and any of the rolls. They have a superb chocolate dessert (sp) as well.
We're a huge fan of the Blue Ribbon Sushi in the village so we were excited to see another location around the corner from our hotel near Central Park/Columbus Circle.
We were a little slow to rise that day so we made our way over there for a late lunch around 2pm. I was glad to see that there was plenty of seating so they got us a table right away. Similar menu to the Sullivan St. location so I went with my usual sushi deluxe order while my husband went with the chicken teriyaki bento box. We also got salmon tartarte to start. It's served with a raw quail egg and it's really quite good. The sushi, as expected, was fantastic. The deluxe portion is quite filling and was may be a bit more than I needed for lunch but I happily ate till I was full. The fish is so fresh and buttery. I just can't help it! My husband also quite liked his bento box, although he did regret not getting more sushi.
I'm not sure I loved the overall experience as much as the Sullivan St. location (which I've given 5 stars). The service we've had there in the past has just been impeccable. But this location got me the delicious sushi I was craving in a location that was convenient to us that day. I think if I had to travel to either I'd go to Sullivan Street over this one, but if I'm in area this one is a fine substitute.
Blue ribbon is one of my favorite Japanese restaurant in NYC for the eclectic range of foods in a casual and welcoming ambiance. Great place for family/friends gathering. What meal can be better to have my cravings for fried chicken and good quality sashimi satisfied in one?!
I visited the soho location two years ago and really enjoyed the meal and service. I can ensure you that the food quality is still maintained at a high standard here =) The staff is less attentive than SoHo location possibly because they are too busy.
Food wise, my friend and I enjoyed everything we ordered – grilled avocado, fried chicken wings (recommend!), and sushi sashimi comb (recommended!). I would say it's hard to find any dish disappointing at BR. Def worth a visit !
