Overall, good steakhouse experience. This is what restaurant week (or month in this case) is all about! Marc Forgione, you've gon dun it again.
Service was pretty impecable, from a hospitable standpoint. I loved our waiter, he was exceptionally cordial, upbeat, clean, and most importantly, on top of his shit – aka our meal was as smooth as it ever could be. No dirty dishes sitting for minutes at a time, waters (and drinks) were constantly filled or asked to be replenished. He knew the menu from the back of his hand including what had be 86'ed. Table was wiped clean after each course, the whole nine yards. He even left us to chit chat between each course, I barely even knew we had been there for an hour and a half.
Talk about top teir hospitality I'd say.
I'd rather not pay $18 for a glass of Cabernet but, what can you do, right?
Came here for restaurant week summer 2016. I had heard from some people that this place was good but it did not prove its greatness to me and my co-workers.
We started with the Caesar salad and french onion soup. The Caesar was your basic, nothing crazy but the french onion was lacking cheese??? Isn't french onion supposed to be overflowing with the delicious goodness of the cheese.. well this was not.
For the main course I ordered the skirt steak which was ok. I wish they had more steak options as the main course. I will say that the salmon was cooked very nicely.
I think the "everything" biscuits were the best part of the meal… they were actually served warm with this side of vegetable cream cheese spread which was delicioussssss.
I was also super disappointed by dessert. I am coming into a restaurant for a nice lunch and they give us two cookies in a baggie "to go" as dessert. I was expecting as most other restaurants do, to give us a decent dessert that is on the menu !
There are so many steakhouses in the area that I probably will not choose this over the others.
The juicy, fatty, melt-in-your-mouth burger is worth this trip alone. What made the night even better was Matthew, our amazing bartender. We ordered some wine, bang bang shrimp, and American Cut's famous burgers.
Matthew chatted with us, told us about the Poke stop out front, served as bartender and waiter, gave us complimentary buttery biscuits, and complimentary tastings of their house-made Negroni and a scotch. We got to compare the scotch to the Japanese whiskey that we ordered. Both the Japanese whiskey and the scotch were smooth and mellow and surprisingly good! They weren't awfully bitter and smelt of cigars.
The Bang Bang shrimp was slightly burning spicy and so good! 4 shrimp per order and were presented vertically on thick cut of toast. The burger was almost perfect- with flavorful ground cuts of beef. The only difference between the burger at American Cut Midtown and American Cut in Tribeca was that the Tribeca burger had beer cheese chunks inside the burger and had more suet ground into the burger. My brother loved it!
We had a great meal and a great time!
Okay. I've done a fair amount of thinking to write this review. I so desperately wanted to give AC four or five stars but my last experience there knocked it down to three.
Here is why you should check out AC:
1. EVERYTHING BISCUITS. Skip the normal meal. THIS IS ALL YOU NEED. Arguably better than an everything bagel.
2. When the food is good, it's really good. The first time I went, the french onion foie gras soup brought me way too much joy.
3. The portion size makes it worth it. Unlike some steakhouses, the portion size matches the price.
4. When the service is good, it is on the caliber of high-end restaurants.
5. The desserts. are. so. good. The crackerjack sundae is a favorite. And the cookies.
6. The prix fixe lunch is a good deal. $30 for a food coma at a nice spot. Definitely worth i t.
So why did it get moved to three stars?
The last few times I went, the food was average. I felt like I could get the "Ruebin" at any deli. The burger was meh at best. The biscuits got smaller. The service was… judgmental. I'm a professional like any other person in your demographic. Just because I may look like I'm 12 doesn't mean that I am. It was a storm of many things that felt subpar. It felt like a truly meh experience at a place that is supposed to be great.
It's worth trying once. But the American Cut experience can be hit or miss. And the miss is not worth the price tag.
This place looks really classy. The food? Methinks NOT!
We came here for restaurant week. We looked at the menu more than a week ago. When we went there, the menu was COMPLETELY different. They said they made a mistake with the menu on nycgo website. So they have not discover the mistake more than a week? I bet they use that "wrong" menu to lure people to their restaurant. Because what they actually offer during lunch is not appealing at all. As a matter of fact, they have been offering the SAME prix-fixe everyday for $28! Why would I want to pay $1 more during restaurant week?
I had the French Onion soup, it was ok. I didn't know there was foie gras in the soup, i picked it up and asked the waitress what that was, she said "French Onion soup". duuuuuuh?! err i know what i ORDERED… Did not like the foie gras combo.
Most of us picked the skirt steak for the entree because there wasn't much good choices there. Most of us did not finished the plate. Not because it was too much, it was bad. The steak was just not a good steak, so it tasted bland. A good steak doesn't need steak sauce to add flavor to it… We ordered the asparagus on the side. The sauce was TERRIBLE. It's VERY sour. And the fried boiled egg just didn't do it for me. It's basically a twist of Delmonico's asparagus with a pouched egg. But Delmonico's executed it so much better…
The dessert was "cookies to go". Initially i was like, wow this place wanna make sure we help with their tables turn during lunch. But they actually served our cookies on a plate. So I don't know where the name come from. But it doesn't matter anyway because I was so ready to go after one bit of that salty cookie. They should be called "cookies which make you go".
I gave a 2-star because their service was pretty good and fast. I think it's the restaurant's fault to try to fool people to come to lunch for restaurant week with a fake menu. While I was there, the fake menu was still active. They finally take it down today. I guess too many disappointments. I had many restaurant week meals before and this is by far the worst food I've ever had. I saw a lot of great reviews, I have no doubt they can make better food. But maybe in their regular menu. In my opinion, this is a counter-effective way to promote your business during restaurant week. It's one way to be cheap but you won't get anymore repeat business!
Came here for a team lunch with my coworkers and it was not difficult at all to secure a table at noon – basically the restaurant was empty with only one to two tables filled. Hard to imagine that it was impossible to nail down a reservation at dinner times.
We decided to go with the RW menu, only to realize that by getting their weekday prex-fixe, we would end up with getting the exact same dishes, but with one dollar less. Also, if you plan to do RW menu, make sure you drop by at noon as opposed to dinner time, as they were offering the same stuff, yet at night it would be priced at 42pp, rather than 29 (or 28).
I opted for the salad, skirt steak and grilled asparagus. While I did enjoy the juiciness coming out of the meat, I actually loved the "impossible egg" in the asparagus side dish – kind of reminded me of the running egg in Japanese ramen, very fluid and smooth!
For less than 30 bucks, I guess this was a pretty decent deal; however I was looking for something more, probably should try their porterhouse next time and re-judge.
I came here for RW last night. The reason this review gets 4 stars is because of the everything biscuit. SO GOOD. It comes with a vegetable cream cheese and it was the best part of the meal. So good that we ordered seconds and then kind of regretted it because we were so full.
-Oysters to start – It was okay. Tiny oysters that were baked with cheese. My friend had the bacon and it seemed to be extra crispy.
-Tuna tartare- this was an extra order. It was mediocre. Kind of regretted getting it. Very ittle tuna for the amount that you pay.
-Hanger steak – I got this medium rare and it was a little chewy. It was seasoned with pastrami but I asked for steak sauce on the side.
-Creamed Spinach with Fontina – the cheese didn't mix well with the spinach so often there were big chunks in the creamed spinach but overall this was pretty good.
-Caramel popcorn ice-cream sundae. – Very sweet and loaded with rich buttery popcorn flavor.
Those biscuits were heavenly!
I ordered from the prefix menu for Restaurant Week.
Everything Biscuits- Served as a complimentary dish before the meal. Everything bagels can't even compare to these. The biscuits themselves are already flavorful, but the vegetable cream cheese added even more flavor. I wish I could have them every day. They were amazing!
Jim Brady Oysters- Strong truffle scent, but very subtle truffle taste. It was creamy and delicious.
Hanger Steak- Salty and tough. I ordered medium, but it was rare.
Sunchoke Spinach- Really good at first, but it got saltier the more I ate it.
Cracker Jack Sundae- The Cracker Jacks gave the ice cream a pleasing crunch and delicious caramel flavor.
The customer service was great at first, but they started to rush us because the place was getting really packed. It became insanely busy around 8pm.
