Tough turn into this lot! It's really easy to miss… Look for the Dunkin Donuts right after Wendy's and the Exxon.
The decor is a little cheesy, but the wine selection is pretty good and always changing. I've discovered a few new favorites at this bar. They also have a full bar and few good craft beer choices.
They have a nice selection of light meals and apps, including a meat and cheese platter, fondue, and pizza. The food is pretty good, but the real draw to this place is the wine.
Get yourself on the mailing list, as they often have great specials and deals! And talk to the owner! He's super friendly and approachable! He's always behind the bar making conversation with his guests.
Just Grapes Lounge is wine-tastic! You will probably drive right past this place on your first try, given the way the parking lot flows, but please turn around and head on back!
Visited here with Hottie, my sister, and her husband on a Saturday night around 6:30 PM. We had the place to ourselves but after about 30 minutes, it started filling up. We sat in the front at the cool "tree table" and ordered up a storm.
We sampled about 3 different types of wine (6 ounce pours). The bartender (her name escapes me…she was blonde and super friendly) offered some suggestions for us based on the fact that the four of us really like Pinot Noir and Malbec. You can order wine in 4 ounce, 6 ounce, or 8 ounce pours.
For tapas, we ordered The Chef's Board (three meats and three cheeses, along with grapes and apples), pulled pork and shredded chicken empanadas, marinated skewered Angus steak, and a margherita pizza. The tapas were fantastic, ample in size, and very satisfying. The pizza was larger than we expected and we happily scarfed the entire thing down.
This is a place where you can chill and stay for a few hours without anyone giving you a sideways "Are you leaving now?" look. We were encouraged to stay for dessert but we were pleasantly full and satisfied at that point. We promised to return and by golly, we WILL!
Great spot for a date, for a meet-up with friends, or even for happy hour. The music volume is perfect, so you'll be able to actually hear the people you're with. Does anyone like being hoarse at the end of the night from shouting at their peeps? Me thinks not!
They should really call this place "Not Just Grapes Lounge" because they offer so much more than just wine. I fear that this place will someday get so busy that I won't be able to get a seat!
I tried Just Grapes Lounge this past weekend with my sister. I was on the fence about it because their average Yelp score has gone up and down (between 3-4 stars) in the past few months but I wound up enjoying it. Just Grapes Lounge is a small place located in a strip mall. It is very dim, which I liked (great for date night), with a bunch of small tables, a bar and a lounge area with 2-3 couches and a fireplace. Even though it was a Saturday night, the place was pretty empty. It gave me the feeling of being at [a way less unique version of] Archetypus in Edgewater, if you're familiar with that restaurant.
We got a few drinks & three tapas. I really enjoyed the food! The mixed olives were delish, the hummus was VERY good, although I wish it came with a bit more, and the vegetable pizza was truly incredible. The pizza alone made this 3 star review increase to 4 stars. The pizza has a soft, fluffy crust that gives a crunch when you bite it. The toppings are fresh and delicious. I was supposed to split it with my sister but, after I polished off half, my hand creeped to her side and two of her pieces were stolen! I'm not sure if I would RUSH back to this restaurant, however if I'm craving delicious pizza for dinner and a nice, dim atmosphere (and full bar) I would choose it.
I've been here a couple times now and honestly, I couldn't think of any reason NOT to give this place 5 stars. Yes, I agree with some reviews that say the place doesn't have as many people as you'd think it would HOWEVER I'm also the type of person that really enjoys the company I'm with. If the biggest issue is not enough people, EVERYONE READ THIS REVIEW AND TRY IT OUT!! 🙂
I also have to remark that the service is absolutely outrageous. The bartenders are always providing such great insight to their wines; from explaining 100 year vines, to the body of the wine you're interesting in trying. I was there last night with a few friends and Just Grapes wa having an end of summer special (I already joined their email list and was notified- woop woop YE in the house!!). I told a couple people to meet us and we had an absolutely amazing time.
Happy hour all night, half priced any open bottle of wine, half price pizzas and tapas specials. I do have to admit although the special prices were something to be excited about, but their price points vs product on a normal day is about right. We landed the lucky couches spot near their faux fire place- love love love.
I also have to say, I absolutely love their pizza and tapas. The pizza is not pizza from a pizza parlor…It takes the more traditional route, and I mean good ol' fashion literal italian traditional pizza. I think that's what the confusion might be for some poor reviews about their pizza. The pizza reminds me of my family's classic foccacia bread underneath; to die for (look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about haha). Everyone I was with last night were huge fans of the pizza as well. It has a nice thickness to it and is perfect for 2 as an over sized tapas plate (see the pictures).
The place is really charming. The decor I'm a very big fan of. I think its lovely.
Go check it out. The place needs more regulars, they've gained a few last night that's for sure!
Last night I was at this lounge for a wine glass painting party, and this review is for the service we received at the lounge, not in regard to the wine glass painting.
The man that was working behind the bar was not eager to help us. (I'm assuming he may have been the manager.) We were a party of 6 guests. My friend and I arrived earlier then they other people in our party, and ordered a club soda, a wine, and a margarita pizza at the bar. After this we moved to a large table with the rest of our group. We noticed after about 45 minutes that the pizza still had not arrived. I had to go remind the gentleman about our order. He claimed he had put it in, but it took another 15/20 minutes to come out. Prior to bringing the pizza he also came to our table, and asked us to give him a credit card to hold our order, which we gave him immediately. I do not believe it was put in until I reminded him. The waitress was very SLOW in coming to our table to see about our drink orders. My sister-in-law actually and to get up and go to the bar to place her drink order. Once the paint glass party was ending the waitress, and gentleman behind the bar seemed to RUSH us out of the establishment. When we were given the bill the entire tables bill was combined, which we thought was odd since our check was opened prior to the remainder of our party arriving. After we had collected the money for the bill my friend went to the bar to pay our balance in cash, with additional cash for tip. Before she paid the bill she asked for her credit card back. The gentleman behind the bar then proceeded to ask her, "Are you sure there is enough cash her to cover the check?" Which was totally uncalled for and quite rude.
In summary, we felt that the people working at the lounge did not want a wine glass painting party there. Which I do not understand, because I highly doubt that many patrons would have been in the establishment on a Tuesday night otherwise.
I will not be returning to this establishment in the future. The only reason I rated this lounge 2 stars instead of 1 is that the pizza I ate was decent.
The best happy hour specials! I got the mussels in wine sauce which is huge, and clam bake which were huge clams but just 2 of them…but still very filling. My friend got a thin crust cheese pizza which was good as well but nothing special honestly…and also a chicken empanada which was also tasty….service was great, we came in about 6 pm on a Wedn and there were only 5 people there.
We also shared a pink sangria pitcher which is freshly made for you…there are no fruits in there like a traditional sangria but it was still pretty good. I would assume it was Rose wine but I never asked…. overall this may be a spot we come back to but just for the HH specials…
As a self-proclaimed grammar nazi, I knew it would take a lot for me to forgive this place for not proof reading their menu. But after the great food, drinks, atmosphere and service, I have no choice but to pardon them.
Nestled in a little strip mall on 46, Just Grapes is so unassuming from the outside. The inside, however, is super cozy. Candlelit with lots of stonework, you'll feel like you're at a cavern wine bar in Italy.
And despite the name "Just Grapes," there's beer, alcohol, and a diverse menu of tapas available. I ordered the "Captain'ria," a white sangria with tropical spiced rum which was delicious. I also sampled their aged cheddar fondue which came with tart apples in a tasty sourdough bread bowl. To die for!
Service was great as well. We were a party of 4 nestled in a dark nook, but we were never forgotten about. The two drinks and the fondue cost $24 which was more than reasonable.
And although it was a Saturday night, it wasn't busy at all. Just Grapes is the definition of a hidden gem! Just a note though: *Sangrias. *Vegetable. *Hummus.
Good wine choices, good food , great for a low key hang out with friends…. Biggest downfall was the slow service. Hopefully there was an employee who called out sick and that isn't how it always is .
