Edward’s Steak House

Love this place!!! Have only been for a few Sunday nights because of the all night Happy Hour in the bar. The HH menu is great. I love the bacon wrapped dates, Mac and cheese and rice balls. I get the Hot and Dirty Martini. I think everything is like $6 each. Pat, the owner, is so nice and makes sure that all of his patrons are taken care of. The bartenders are professional and awesome. Crowd is diverse and different every time I am here. I need to come back for a steak meal.
I had the privilege of coming here on several occasions, many, many months ago. Jersey City has quite a few gem restaurants and this happened to be one of them.
The first couple of times eating here, as I mentioned some time ago, I had the ribeye and then lamb chops, both were cooked perfectly. Both served with a bottle or two of red wine, plus the usual staple steakhouse sides, hashed and/or mashed potatoes, onion strings, forest mushrooms, haricot verts, which all respectively rounded out each meal nicely. The service, from what I recall, complimented the dining experience. Dinner those few times were expensive, but worth it.
I love the fact that the restaurant is located in a brownstone/townhouse, very unique setting. Though the ambience seems to be holding its own, their food standards, according to some Yelpers, seems to have gone down some since my last visits.
So, if you're in JC and looking for a quaint steakhouse in a brownstone building, draw your own opinion by stopping by here.
Overall: 3.5
Fourth installment dinner with friends.
Every three to four months, lifetime friends and I get together for a "guys night out".
This wasn't our first choice, but it was convenient location for everyone. The decor reminds me of an old Wall Street-like steak house, with a small bar down stairs, dark wood on the walls and three or four booths along one wall.
When my last friend arrived, we were brought upstairs to the dining area. Our server Amy was on point, letting the three of us catch up since our last get together.
For starters, we went with Oysters Rockefeller and Baked Clams. Both were very good and we polished them off easily. For the entree we all went with the 16 ounce New York Sirloin. I ordered it medium rare. We split sides of creamed spinach, hash browns and onion straws as the menu is a la carte. I will stress, the food was very good, but extremely expensive.
I would consider this a "special night out" kind of place. Also of some note, they validate parking with a lot about one block away.
Restaurant week stopover. Came highly recommended but sadly did not live up to the hype. $40 for a four course meal was great. Everything was delicious except for the steak… unfortunately that was the main event. My app of filet mignon spring roll was very crispy and paired well with a tangy tartar sauce. Had a watermelon salad topped with feta cheese and crushed walnuts. A dessert of creme brûlée. I had the Delmonico steak for an entree but the steak felt like a cheap cut of meat and was over cooked to my liking (I prefer medium rare). The best part of the entree was the side of hash brown medallion which was scrumptiously crispy!
I should've gone with the porterhouse for two.
This place probably used to be great, but this last experience really turned me off. The pork chop pizzaiola is actually pretty good – but the waiter asked how I'd like it cooked and suggested medium – it came out well done. Still tasted good, but don't offer medium then cook it well done. My fiancee had the 6 oz filet and mini potato hockey puck – the steak was super small – which is fine, but don't charge $32 for it. That's just nuts. Then I decided to order broccoli because a table near us ordered and they got a really decent sized portion for $9. Mine was 4 large florets and when I asked about it the waiter just told me that everything is pre-portioned and weighed out. No – the other table definitely got more.
There are lots of other steakhouses nearby to get your steak-fix on.
Came here and found out it was Jersey City restaurant week, and decided to order off the set menu since their "Delmonico Steak" was a ribeye, and that's the cut that I wanted anyway. I came out rather disappointed.
I'm not sure if it was because they had a lower quality batch of meat for the restaurant week menu, but the slab of meat that I got served was very cheap. The steak was way too chewy, and had large deposits of fat, instead of nice even marbling. To be honest, I've bought cuts from my local supermarket for $10, seasoned and grilled myself that were better than this. I can only hope that this is not the quality of their regular menu. Even so, providing inferior cuts for people who come for restaurant week to sample the restaurant is NOT how you get them to come back….
That being said, the rest of the meal was decent. The smoked salmon carpaccio tasted as it should've. The steak dish came with a small side of cream spinach which was good, and a lump potato hashbrown that was actually very good. The "icebox" dessert cake was also tasty.
This would've been an enjoyable experience had the core piece of my meal been good.
We wanted to support the re-opening after Sandy last year, so the guy and I booked a Restaurant Week deal here. We did the Porterhouse for two (err.. more like for "him and a few bites for me") which came with an appetizer, a salad, the entree including two sides, as well as a dessert.
The appetizer I got were clams baked with bread crumbs and lemon – delicious. The guy for filet mignon egg-roll things… which were good but a bit greasy. Our salads were forgettable.. mainly because no one comes here for a salad. The porterhouse came out perfectly cooked.. a bit on the well side for my tastes, but I wasnt in charge of the meat. The sides were creamed spinach (which is artery-clogging delicious), and whipped potatoes.. which were great dipped into the juice coming from the steak. Our desserts were miserable – the cheesecake tasted like it wasnt house-made, and I had a creme brulee that was liquid – literally.. was soup. The disappointment was that I barely got an apology when I pointed this out to the waitress (who pointed it out to the manager who didnt even look at me when he walked it back to the kitchen).
Overall – a decent experience and happy we came to support the restaurant. Not sure we'll be heading back any time soon… unless there's another restaurant week around the corner.
My gf and I checked this out for restaurant week and then came back two weeks later for my birthday. This steakhouse will not let you down.
Edwards has hands-down one of the best filets in NY/NJ. When I came back, I got the surf and turf, which is the 5 oz filet and lobster. I highly recommend this entree!! They're chocolate mousse dessert is to die for too!
The service here is incredible as well as each waiter is attentive to your needs.
The only downfall is the restaurant is a bit pricey across the board. I recommend coming here for a special occasion.
