I've had nothing but amazing times at City Winery. Maybe that's because I'm always given free stuff there or maybe because it's just great.
Service is stellar, on Easter Sunday we were doted on by the Legolas-looking server, who went above and beyond making our brunch great.
They import their grapes and make wine in barrels in, yes, the barrel room! just behind the bar. I recommend their prosecco for a goes down easy appley goodness.
We loved their fries (the wedge of potato kind. Awesome.) and the French toast. I'd pass on the red flannel hash. I had had the Farm on Adderley's in my mind but this did not deliver.
And they host a lot of events too, so get in on one of the wine tastings and check them out.
I had purchased a Travelzoo voucher for $25 for $50, and It was only meant to be used on Saturdays, but realizing I was not going to make it before the expiration date, they kindly let us use the voucher on a Thursday. Really appreciated that. Plus, we ended up ordering more wine and spending more money there!
I really loved their Pinot Noir, and the Chardonnay was also quite interesting (though a little too unusual for me).
We ordered the duck tacos and meatballs, as well. Both were satisfying, but neither blew me away.
Overall, this place is a bit pricey. Plus, you can hear the music or show next door, which can be distracting, especially if you're not loving the live music and the cheers.
Nonetheless, the voucher brought me in and did its job. Would be a great place for a classy date.
It's a great idea to unwind here after shopping in soho. My friend and I shared a cheese and meat board and a carafe of wine (3-4 glasses). They offer outdoor seating as well, so that should be taken advantage of while the weather permits. The staff was also extremely helpful when offering recommendations for wines and accommodating when we wanted to move inside because it started getting cold. Definitely will be coming back again when I'm in the area.
Every time I visit City Winery, I am never disappointed. My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of enjoying a lovely dinner here the other night and the food and service were excellent. Despite the fact that I made a reservation, I was worried there would be a wait because they are pretty busy. However, upon arrival we were promptly greeted by the hostess and sat immediately. Diana was our server for the evening. She was attentive and offered assistance with food and wine suggestions.
I began the evening with a glass of their Grenache that was smooth, aerated and ready for consumption. We decided to get a few small plates so that we could enjoy the various flavors of the menu without becoming too full and we shared everything. We started with the Spicy Edamame and it was yummy. They are seasoned with togarashi and the spiciness added a nice element. Next, we had the Octopus on crostini. It was very good. Perfectly cooked, not chewy and seasoned wonderfully. We had the Scallops with a Parsnip Puree that was to DIE for. The best part about that dish is the surprising hint of vanilla in the taste profile; it was a decadent ensemble of flavors.
We also ordered the Little Gems Salad, from which we kept eating in between dishes so that we could cleanse the palate. The beets were just sweet enough to counter the tanginess of the gouda cheese. The salad was lightly dressed, with nice, crisp pieces of little gem. We requested two concert dining menu items, the Tuna Carpaccio and the Burrata Salad. I looked up the menu online and we HAD to try those dishes, so we ordered them. The tuna was super fresh with fennel, radish and apple; a truly light dish that was tied together with a little drizzle of chive oil. The Burrata was creamy and served with some crostini. It was great.
We decided to also order a main act of the Lamb Loin that was served with charred tomatoes, baby carrots and a delectable fava bean puree. The temp on the cook was a perfect mid-rare. The lamb was divine and we could have melted right there, in our seats. Luckily for us there was a special, of Prawns served with watercress, saffron aioli, tomatoes and segments of orange. The prawns were served with the heads still attached. They were cooked perfectly. We ate every bite and sucked the head fat and juice out of those heads and it was grand! A couple of people were looking at us funny but I say if you're going to enjoy a meal, enjoy it wholly.
We topped off our buffet (er, meal) with two desserts; the Passion Fruit Crème Brulee with fresh fruit and salted caramel pistachios as well as the Homemade Doughnuts with a hazelnut puree, gooseberry curd and moscato gelato.
this is an excellent location to hang out, eat some great food, and enjoy some solid wines.
the Gilt City group doesn't particularly save you any money, but it does allow you to try flights of their wine (which isn't normally listed on the menu). with a wide array of vino to sample, this is great for your first time here. I sampled three of the reds – Tres Amigos, New York City Cab, and Syrah 2011, which were all pretty good. Tres Amigos might have been my favorite.
the brunch menu is equally diverse – salads, latkes, sandwiches, breakfast meals, and flatbreads – but the brisket sandwich with spicy ketchup was a true grand slam.
it's a great comfortable setting. there's live music in one of the bigger rooms, and they also do private parties. service was friendly but a little laggy, but no big deal on a lazy Sunday.
Went on some sort of deal, had a virgin Bloody Mary and spinach and tomato egg Benedict. The hubs had steak and scramble eggs. The food was as promising as advertised and it was a filling brunch. Nothing much extraordinary but good.
The place itself is cooler than the food! You can walk pass the containers where booze is made and I think a tour of the place would be a cool activity to do. Would like to return just to learn more about the alcohol making process 🙂
The décor of this place was nice. We stopped in for a glass of wine, we didn't have a meal so I can't comment on that. The drinks were a little high, $25 for a glass of wine and a mixed drink but I guess that is to be expected because of the area attached restaurant???. The young lady that waited on us was all over the place,, she was trying to multitask when clearly that is not an area she is proficient in.
I will go back again but next time for dinner at City Winery so that I can see a performance.
Didn't open until 5:00, so I'm not sure if their hours changed. The place is cute and on the opposite side of City Winery. The band was setting up in the corner and there is a TV above the bar that broadcasts the band, which is cool for those who don't secure front row seats.
You can get wine by the carafe and the selection is large. I'd come back to see the show (we left before it started) and to visit the winery.
