I stopped by after work with some coworkers. The glasses of wine are okay and they give a decent pour. Although I didn't try the food, my coworkers ordered the dip and I believe the bruchetta. While the portions were very small, I was told it was good (although it seemed a little over-priced to me). It's a very small wine bar, but a great place to enjoy a conversation over a glass (or two) of wine.

  2. This place is great for an intimate gathering for drinks (or even a great start to your date) – it's nice and quiet inside, and the servers here are nice.

I've only come here for happy hour, which is great! From what I remember, select wines are $6-7, but it ends at 7, so get here early!

  3. I came here last night on a date. He arrived about a half an hour late, and during that time I got to chat with the chef in the back as well as the bartender. They were both very friendly and I had great conversations with them. In fact, I enjoyed their company more than my date's but that's another story…

The place was absolutely dead – there was nobody in there except for my date and I. Apparently they are much busier on weeknights than the weekends, but I kind of liked that it was quiet. We ordered the porkchop which was good and there were lots of options on the menu that I'll definitely come back and try! I love my red wine, so I really enjoyed this quaint little wine bar for a quiet night.

This place is also hard to find from the outside. They need a sign or something because I wasn't even sure I was in the right place for a little while!

  4. Sofia Wine Bar was packed, so my girlfriend and I just walked over a few blocks to Cello, hoping we'd have better luck here.
Unfortunately, there weren't any seats here either but we decided to wait it out.

It's a very long, narrow space, with not much room to walk/move.
And it was boiling hot, even when it was 10-20 degrees outside.

After waiting about 10-15 minutes, we were seated.
We walked in before the end of Happy Hour, but because we weren't seated till 5 past 7, they did not honor the HH deals.

We each ordered a glass of red, and jettisoned out of Cello Wine Bar, to enjoy the rest of the evening in a 'cooler' spot.

It's a quiet space, so I'd recommend Cello for a third or fourth date, when you want to give your date your undivided attention. I think it might be a little intimidating for a first date.

  5. Went here on a date the other night. A really nice cozy spot. Coming off a sickness so didn't drink any wine, but my girlfriend got the Pinot griot and said it was great (happy hour special). Looked like a generous pour as well.

The food was pretty good too, had the empanada first, and I would say it could have used a little more cheese. The Felix pizza and the meatballs were great though.

Good prices too. Def headed back!

  6. Came here with 2 of my friends a few months ago for drinks after having dinner at Lucky Cat across the street. The place is intimate, dimly lit, and a pretty good place for a date as well as a good place for friends to get together. The drink selection was extensive, the service was great, and the prices were reasonable, even outside of the designated happy hour times. They also serve food here, but we did not partake in any as we were full from our meal before.

Would come back here if I happen to be in the area again.

  7. I'm rarely in this neighborhood at any time of day, let alone weeknight happy hour, but needed a wine bar nearby on a recent Wednesday and Cello Wine Bar pulled through for me. Dark, nicely lit, cozy, with good happy hour deals and a friendly server giving us big pours. Liked the malbec, the mushroom crostini, and the fig & cheese empanada (which, while large, probably wasn't worth its pricetag).

  8. I had a great first experience here so I decided to come back for dinner a few weeks ago.  I was pretty disappointed – they were out of a ton of items on the menu (my boyfriend asked for three different things they said they didn't have).

They also messed up our order, although they gave us a free meatball appetizer when they realized the mistake.

My second experience was not as positive as the first.  I'd definitely recommend Cello as a place to get a drink, but not sure I'd suggest it for dinner.
