Went on a Saturday night. Let me start by saying I could care less what a place looks like or it's atmosphere I can fit in anywhere just give me good food and price it fairly. Steaks here are way overpriced. Had cowboy rib eye 20oz. Was not close to 20oz and was a very average cut of meat it was $35. That's crazy for this piece of meat. The salad that comes with it was out of a bag a wilted a bit. Come on–really. I'm a steak lover but I'm sorry to say I won't be back for steak at Steve's. There is way better out there
Historic South Bergen Bar and Steakhouse. I was introduced to this place years ago when the bartender, Joe, used to buy fish from me every Friday at the A&P. (My high school and college years job – loved it!) Joe was a class act, true gentleman behind the bar, gracious, hospitable, and spiffy in tux jacket and bow tie. Joe has passed many years now but his presence still looms large.
Today had a wonderful medium rare 12oz fillet for lunch with my wife and friends – celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary. You can't go wrong with Steve's. Great food, great people!
Decided to dine at Steve's Sizzling… The waitress seemed bored, really didn't stick around once she dropped off the menu (bummer). Par for the course I guess, pretty simple menu.
I ordered the hot cherry peppers prior to my steak and believe me the peppers were HOT, and delicious. The waitress did chime in and tell me I'm in for a real treat with the sweet peppers. She was absolutely right and then some. On to my steak, filet mignon. One of the best steaks I've ever had. Kudos to Steve's, I will definitely go back and tell anyone to drop Byars enjoy a tasty steak.
Overall the food is the selling point of course, and it's speaks for itself. Just go, and enjoy an awesome meal.
I have also driven past this location for years now and have always wondered how good are Steve's Sizzling Steaks.. well let me tell you my filet was dam good.
Myself and two girlfriends went here last Monday night for a much needed girls night to kick back unwind and eat some meat! After trying to find a parking spot we decided we would need a fiat or smart car to fit in the spots that were left and parked on the street near by.
Upon arrival we were greeted by the hostess and she escorted us to the back room where we sat in what I like to call a lovely room of death as Ace Ventura puts it in when nature calls. (didn't bother me too much.. my family hunts so I'm used to taxidermied animals) We sat down at our table and looked over the menu. As I was skimming the menu the waitress walked by with a sizzling hot plate with a huge steak on it.. my mouth started to water immediately. I decided on the crab cakes for my appetizer, and the filet mignon with onion rings instead of fries along with a side of creamed spinach. The crab cakes were fabulous and chock full of jumbo lump crab meat and served with cocktail sauce (maybe homemade). The crisp exterior with the soft lump crab meat was the perfect start to my meal.
All steaks come with a side salad and they have many dressings to choose from. I got the blue cheese and it was delicious and fresh with small chunks. My friends ordered the french onion soup and let me have a taste. If you really enjoy french onion soup don't pass this one up it was really really good and cheesy. Once we were done with our apps and soups and salad out came our glorious sizzling hot steaks. My friend had told me about the sizzling steak sauce and that it can be viewed by some on the salty side, I decided to take the risk and I'm happy I did. As many others have said I too agree that there is some sort of soy sauce action going on here but it was delicious and addicting.
My steak came out pipping hot and tender cooked to a perfect medium with little mushrooms and huge crispy onion rings that got a little wet from the salty sauce on the plate but that just made them even better. My creamed spinach was really tasty but I would of enjoyed it more if it was a little hotter. My friend Kristina got the ribeye and let me have a piece, it was like butter. I loved everything so much I left nothing on the plate as you can see in my picture.
The steak here is 5 star quality and the only thing holding me back from the 5 star review is the decor. It is a little outdated and man cave-ish. There is plenty of natural wood and gun decor as Yves said in his review and I too agree this is probably the manliest place you can eat a steak in Northern Jersey. Can't wait to come back and get that ribeye for myself.
Nondescript hidden gem right on Route 17.
This place is a real surprise. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but this place serves some pretty good steaks. They've also got a few other nice items on the menu, including some tasty fried shrimp.
Well worth a visit for any meat lovers.
I don't get all the hype here. Sure the steak was good but it certainly wasn't great or memorable in my opinion.
We came on a Saturday evening around 5 and it was a good time to come since the place filled out very quickly right after we sat down and people were waiting for tables when we were leaving.
Service was decent. You get your regular slice of bread with your butter. And your steak comes with a side of salad and french fries. We ordered our steak median well and it was overcooked so it was a bit dry. The flavor was good. A bit too salty in my opinion but good. French fries were thickly cut and very salty.
Overall, steak was good. But I wouldn't come out of my way for this one.
FYI: The sizzling steak sauce is on the salty side. They give you the option to opt out if you don't want it though. If you have an aversion to salt, opt out. Don't come on here and complain about it because everyone has made it crystal clear in their reviews that the steak sauce is salty.
Personally, I liked the sauce. It's definitely some kind of soy sauce concoction as other reviewers have mentioned. I found it very flavorful though and dipped my healthy, steamed broccoli in it.
I came here on a Monday with 2 of my friends. I got the ribeye and they got the filet mignon. All the cuts of meat were excellent, not a lot of fat or gristle on mine. Steaks come with a side salad, a couple of mushrooms and steak fries. I got broccoli instead of fries. My friend got the creamed spinach which was very good and the crab cake app which was very good as well. I also got the french onion soup as an app which I thought was pretty standard.
Prices were reasonable. The 8 ounce filet mignon was $26 while my 16 ounce ribeye was also $26. Service was good but it was a Monday and not busy.
I will definitely be back.
So I've been here a few times and every time I've eaten here I left there satisfied but unfulfilled. It has all the elements to be truly A+ but what build that barrier? Nom Nom Nom. After multiple attempts I figured out that I am probably one of the few patrons who actually do not like the special seasoning. To me… it's salty and way to overpowering. Taking away from the robust flavor of the steak. So – will I return? Probably — but only with friends who look at this landmark as a point of interest.
