  1. The food was delicious. I ordered the Arroz con pollo and the rice was just super delicious ! The chicken that was mixed in was perfectly juicy! The amount of shredded carrot on top of my salad was a little owe the too but it was a perfect amount of lettuce.

The reason for a star off is that the waiters don't attend to you as much as a regular restaurant would. I ordered water and when I was done, I didn't get a refill the rest of the night. Only complaint. Otherwise it was a good experience.

  2. Delicious! Ate here for the first time today – normally I get the chicken soup to go which is excellent. I could drink the broth all by itself. Chicken, egg, potatoes, herbs, all cooked just right. Today I got the cod with plantains, rice, and salad. The cod was mouth watering good. Flaky in a light sauce flavored just right. The rice was a little undercooked for my taste – but I didn't have room for it anyway. $25 and my bf and I each had a filling dinner with at least an entire meal worth of leftover. Very casual atmosphere – flip flops and sweats fit in well. Polite and speedy service – much appreciated as I was hungry! In and out in an hour – leaving time to walk off some of the fullness on a lovely end of summer evening.

  3. Going to write this review as cut-and-dry and simple as possible…just like their steak.

Ordered a small steak with french fries for lunch. Steak was dry and flavorless. The fries were thin and frozen.  Tasted like they had been sitting around since the morning. The place was surprisingly packed with patrons for lunch.

I've also had empanadas from this place during work luncheons. I'm not a fan. Service wasn't great either for the short amount of time I was there. No one greeted me and I was waiting around for quite a while before some one acknowledged me and offered me a menu.

  4. Great little find.  My coworkers recommended this place and we've dined here for lunch several times.

The quality of food is consistent.  So are the portions.  I can eat a full plate of food but their regular portions are massive.  The half portion is still a lot of food.

I've only had the Bandeja Tipico.  It comes with carne asada, chicharron, egg, corn cake, sweet plantain, rice, beans and avocado.  It's all very tasty.

Service is decent.  It's on street parking, so give yourself extra time to park.  It's usually very busy around that area during the day.

  5. Went here a good while ago. Had the Bandeja Tipico.  It came with carne asada/steak (pretty good,) chicharron (a bit hard but solid,) egg (fine,) corn cake (arepa, was solid,) sweet plantain (slightly better than the normal,) rice (a-ok,) beans (ok) and avocado (ok.)

The food here is fine. I think it's a bit pricey compared to some of the Spanish places in the area. I prefer a few others such as Bohemia but it is a solid 3.

  6. *****ALERT!!!!****

Do not go here to eat pollo ala brasa!!!
it is not worth your money – $23 for entire chicken with fries and salad.

All Peruvians who think they can get good pollo ala brasa – do not waste your time here!

    Let's begin!

    FRIES: Frozen. Taste old.

SALAD: they served their garden salad without any dressing. Avocado was brown!

CHICKEN: taste like tandoori chicken ( indian ) ; If I wanted indian food I would order from somewhere else, however chicken was not dry.

SERVICE: poor service over the phone and delivery was late.

They may be good in other dishes but not pollo ala brasa.

  7. Over the years I've given many of the latin american restaurants in the north Jersey area my patronage and I have come to the conclusion that this one stands out as one of the best. They are known for their rotisserie chicken but feature many typical Columbian dishes such as bandeja paisas.

Their portions are very generous, an entree can easily be shared between 2 people. On my last visit we ordered 4 entrees and 1 chicken and that was enough to feed 6 hungry people!  They also keep on hand many south american fruits (for smoothies) and soft drinks, Jugo de Lulo and Manzana Postobon come to mind. The menu is extensively photographic, showing a large image of the dish you will be receiving with every entree listing.

Best of all the prices are very affordable. That 6 person dinner mentioned above (which also included a large amount of left overs that we took with us) totaled at ~$100 including tip and tax.

  8. On my way back from NY after taking care of some personal business, I decided to finally try Pollos Mario as it's been on my yelp bookmarks forever.

I stumbled on Pollos Mario a few years back and when you browse their website and see the many vivid photos of all the dishes available you can see why I bookmarked this restaurant.

I started with an appetizer of yucca fries and they were very tasty albeit very dense and more starchy than say potato fries, though this is attributable to the nature of yucca.

For my entree I ordered the "El Jalisco" which is a dish that is actually not listed on Pollos Mario's online menu.  It started with a salad which was fresh and dressed very well.  After the salad the main part of "El Jalisco" was served and it was comprised of a generously portioned medium rare skirt steak topped with a tangy fresh pico de gallo and sour cream, spanish yellow rice, beans, guacamole, and some nachos.

I've cut down on my consumption of rice dramatically the past year, but I found the combination of beans and rice so tasty that I finished the entire portion.

Luckily I was planning to run the next day (as I do on most Sundays), so all those carbohydrates were used effectively LOL.

Everything on the dish was very fresh; even those oddly included nachos were very crunchy and not at all oily.

My only two gripes were both related to the skirt steak.  One was that it could have been seasoned better and secondly, the steak had a piece of inedible gristle at the end which wasn't trimmed off prior to cooking.

Nonetheless, neither detracted from a very good and filling meal at a very reasonable price as well!
