I just wrote a review of Taco Joe's and realized that in the half dozen or more times i've eaten at Moe's i've never reviewed it.
Short and sweet is I love this place! Had it for the first time at a friend's house block party not far from this Oceanside location and have been a huge fan ever since!
Food is very good, very quick and again you can get lunch reasonably or even dinner for under 20 bucks, not bad!
Probably my favorite location. I've never had a bad experience coming here. It's clean and the staff is always friendly. Every time I'm here, it's a bit crowded but the line is always moving so I've never had a problem with the wait. I usually get a chicken burrito or nachos and it's always satisfying. Because this location is usually busy, the food is never just sitting out all day. Also, the queso is extra but sooo worth it.
It's very good for a franchise. It's not the greatest tex mex. but for a franchise it's good. And it's cheap. I always go for the chicken burrito.
I got a Homewrecker burrito with pork, which was $8.79, with tax. For the Homewrecker you can choose between pork, steak, chicken, or ground beef. There are also other types of burritos, I think one of them might be vegetarian. The burritos come with black beans, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and rice. Some of the pieces of rice weren't cooked well and were hard and kind of hurt my teeth. With the Homewrecker you can get all those ingredients plus sour cream and guacamole. Also, most if not all of Moe's dishes come with bland chips on the side.
I think the burrito is about the size of a Chipotle burrito but Moe's is a little cheaper. My burrito was huge and jam packed. It could have easily been shared between two people so of course I ate the whole thing by myself in one sitting. The burritos have a little spice to them, which is nice as opposed to a boring, spiceless burrito. There are also jr. burritos but they're only a dollar less than the regular burritos and probably half the size so I would stick with the regular sized burritos. Moe's a decent place to go for lunch when in the area every once in a while.
There's also a big sign that says kids eat free on Tuesday nights so if you have rugrats it might be fun to try that out.
Moe's is just a step or two above Taco Bell… Everything here appears fresher and better quality than Taco Bell, but in the end the finished product seems very similar. The food seems very American. Everything that I've ever had here is just ok. As far as chain tex-mex goes, I think that Green Cactus is way better than this place. Chipotle is better also.
I have been to Moe's several times. The ingredients are fresh and your food is made in front of you. Just down the road is Chipotle, again fresh ingredients and your food is made in front of you. The free chips and the salsa station are nice touch. This place can get crowded in a hurry. When the staff yells "Welcome to Moe's!" I dislike like it. It is gimmicky just like the name of some of the dishes "the Home Wrecker" (I actually like this name), "Art Vandalay", "Joey Bag O' Donuts", "John Cocktoasten", etc. I would like the place better without the gimmicks. Not a bad experience, although I prefer Chipotle or Green Cactus.
If we were just rating the food, I'd give this place 5 stars since it was really good & didn't make me sick later. I lived in Atlanta when this place first sprang up in 2000 & I'd heard about it from others. However, until last week I'd never actually been though the husband & I talked about going for quite some time. Since there was one nearby to the venue we were at, we decided to finally change that.
We'd recently watched the episode of "Undercover Boss" where the Moe's CEO had gone undercover so we knew a little of what the experience was supposed to be. I guess watching that also inspired us to go here.
We were not greeted with "Welcome to Moe's!" when we came in. Personally, I didn't have a problem with it since that would have made us feel self-conscious as first time patrons who were trying to decide what we wanted. I got a chicken quesadilla and some of the famous queso. I like that you could get anything you wanted in the quesadilla & I got a variety of toppings I wouldn't be able to get elsewhere. I also like the free chips and salsa with every entree.
One thing you should know about the queso is that it has a little spicy kick at the end, which I haven't had with other ones. Still good, though. They also had mild tomatillo salsa, which I've NEVER seen anyplace else; that made me happy.
What I did not like about the experience was the nastiness of the bathrooms. I thought maybe the ladies room would be a little nicer here than the one I'd been able to use at Best Western but it was horrible. I refused to use it, it was that bad. No smells but it was dirty and the toilet was stuffed full of toilet paper. My husband said the men's room was much the same.
I wouldn't drive out of my way to go to this location but maybe the one in Astoria they're supposedly opening will be nice & convenient by subway.
This is one of those places to come to every so often – but certainly not all the time. The food is fresher than Taco Bell – but much more expensive! For 3 bucks, you can get just one taco .. double that, and you can get a quesadilla. Each order comes with nacho chips which fill you up a little more. I tend to usually avoid the salsa bar, because well, people are pretty gross in general, but they have quite a few choices, if you're looking to kick it up a few notches.
