  1. Considering this is the only sushi option available on Roosevelt Island, this place is not bad. The restaurant is relatively small but there's a sizable amount of seating and they're very family friendly and yet semi-trendy at the same time. The menu is standard sushi fare with rolls ranging from $3-8 and specialty rolls from $8-13.  The service is fast and the food is pretty standard. The display on the plates is pretty cute which makes the restaurant seem much fancier than it actually is.

  2. Came on a day as special as today as the snow was just enormously heavy that I can hardly open my eyes. Fortunately this place is just several steps walk from my home, so I decided to have something warm. I chose the shrimp hibachi eventually and it turned out to be very nice! I especially enjoyed the sauce with vegetables. Definitely gonna be back, but hopefully not on a snowy day:)

  3. More than decent, better than standard. I ordered the Sashimi & Sushi Combo, and the portions were very large while the quality was very fresh. The fish texture didn't have the obliterated-frozen texture that can be all too common, unfortunately.   I'll definitely return, next time I visit Roosevelt Island, it's right on top of the subway and only a block away tram. Service is attentive & casual, atmosphere is relaxed & breezy, decor polished & pretty. Recommended.

  4. This is the best restaurant to eat at on Roosevelt island, and affordable as well.  Edamame appetizer is good ($4), as was my entrée tofu and veggie udon soup ($9).  I was full from just eating  1/2 the broth and most of the vegetables; I didn't even need the noodles to fill me up because this is a monster serving of soup.  Fried ice cream ($4) desert is a large portion and ok, not the best I have had by any means.  I would gladly throw Fuji East 3 stars for food and 4 stars for price, except the service was curt to the point of rudeness.

  5. There are not that many food options on Roosevelt Island, so I guess you just gotta settle here. However, be in the know for what to expect.

    Food:
-Salmon sashimi: the fish quality seemed actually pretty okay
-J J Salmon Roll: this is blergh. not recommended. felt like I just ate something bland and mushy.
-Lobster Roll: flavors overpowered by the sauce. basically drenched in sauce. So if you like sushi drenched in sauce, this is for you; not for me.
-Crazy Tuna Roll: better than the salmon roll. pretty okay, actually, but there wasn't anything crazy about it. it was average.

Service: verrryyy verryyyy slow. not that many customers here, but it was hard to get hold of the server. The server was not so friendly and looked like she didn't want to be working there.

Recommended? Sure, if you are on this island stranded.

  6. I have been going here for years ( there are not too many places to eat for the residents of Roosevelt Island). However, the food is pretty good and their special rolls are quite creative. I typically get the various bento boxes.

The service is pretty prompt. I disagree with people who say the waitresses are cold. Instead, I will say that they are "efficient".

Great place to go if you take the tram for a visit to the "little apple in the big apple".

  7. This is, in my opinion, your best bet in Roosevelt Island (which doesn't say much). I think that they have decent quality at good prices. I am a fan of their miso and their sushi combos were filling.

If you are looking for authentic Japanese food you'll be extremely disappointed though. In RI, I think this is what I would call "the blind leading the blind"

  8. During a Sunday exploring Roosevelt Island, i stopped here for lunch. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. I was immediately turned off the by the dismissive, uninterested waitress that came to our table. I went to ask if lunch specials were applicable on the weekends (because many times they're not) and she cut me off and said yes while looking away as if I was bothering her. I don't think that expecting a smidge of enthusiasm and eye contact is too much to ask from a server. I get people have bad days but don't bring it out on me.

With that said, the prices were reasonable. I ordered the bento box which comes with two dumplings, rice, teriyaki (of your choice) and a california roll. The serving was smaller than i expected but still filled me up. It was simple and tasty but nothing to write home about. I think this is one of the better options on Roosevelt Island but a more pleasant server would have made a world of difference for the experience.
