  1. I'm not sure what the other reviewers are so steamed about. Herradura certainly hit the spot for dinner after a long drive from Lake George; not outstanding, but a solid choice that I'd return to on the infrequent occasions I end up in Mamaroneck.

the salsa they brought out was pretty good. maybe these other reviewers went on an off day, because ours was spicy. chips were warm too. good start.

I ordered the chicken mole enchilada platter. three enchiladas, yellow rice, beans, and salad. pretty damn tasty, though I wish the mole sauce was spicier and a little thinner in consistency. the guacamole also wasn't spicy enough. still, the portion size was big and filling, and sets you back a modest $17.

service was good. plenty of seating inside and actually fairly busy on a Sunday evening.

  2. Have been here a couple of times now. Kitchey atmosphere – kind of like you were in Cancun but I suppose that's part of the charm. Lunch time is not super busy but enough so to where you don't feel like the food is going to suffer. The beef fajitas are satisfactory – nothing special but does the trick. Staff isn't super-friendly but they, too, get the job done. Not clamoring to go back but will when the mood surfaces.

  3. We came here on the way back from Lake George in October, famished after a long day of driving and a lackluster lunch.  The decor caught my eye immediately and reminded me of the more authentic restaurants I've been to in predominantly Latin neighborhoods.  It seemed promising as I was in the mood for a Mexican dinner.

The chips and salsa were fresh and tasty.  My chicken fajita platter was about what I expected but came in a jumbo portion that allowed me to bring the leftovers home and get another two meals out of it.  Overall, everything was good, including the service, but nothing special.

La Herradura did not disappoint but is hardly the kind of place I would go out of my way to visit again.

  4. This use to be my favorite restaurant even enough that I had my rehearsal dinner there. It has been about 10 years since I have last visit it and I will say it has changed.

The food has been more portion control so if you want a big meal this is not the place for you. I found that it was super salty , the beans were bland and the rice was half the portion of the suggested serving. I will say the enchiladas were still the right cut of meat not pull chicken. And not highly cheesy.

  5. Solid guacamole
    Slightly sweet and spicy salsa
A really well made Michelada (I'm very particular about my Michelada's … they have to be sweet but not overbearing, spicy but not burn my mouth) that hit the spot

Would  definitely come back to try the grub!

  6. This is a pretty good Mexican restaurant. I've been coming to this restaurant for a while and decided to take my girlfriend for lunch and I got the chicken burrito. Everything was great. The food was delicious and very filling. The staff were all friendly. Coming here during the spring and summer time is awesome cause they have outside seating which is nice. Recommend going here in you're in mamaroneck

  7. This is a fine Mexican restaurant.  Ate here for the first time today, it was a warm and sunny Sunday so a friend of mine decided to got to Mamaroneck, get an early lunch here and then go hang out in Harbor Park.

I had a shrimp burrito and Corona beer and enjoyed both, shrimp were fresh, portion large (perhaps stuffed a bit too much with refried beans) and served with a decent side of guacamole and sour cream.  I would have loved more guacamole, should have asked for it.  They started us with home made chips and two salsas that tasted house-made and were just fine.

I think the restaurant may have been reading some of the other reviews regarding the service – it felt like at first the wait staff were a little slow and not that eager to serve us, but then they seemed to "catch" themselves, and went out of their way to come by our table and make sure we were satisfied.  I could tell they were making an effort, and since my friend and I enjoyed our lunch we tipped them well.  Wouldn't mind coming back.
