  1. Ordered from Grub Hub, and was not expecting much without any pictures or reviews as I frantically ordered out of starvation.
$16 and an hour later a yummy empanada and some kind of concoction I still can't figure out for a main course arrived at my door
An upside down turned plastic half pint of white rice with a half a sweet plantain, two sunny side eggs and some peppers and onions on top of a doormat.
The steak was so tough I could barely chew through it and had to tell my mouth don't swallow this yet, its still not broken up!
After reading the reviews after my meal on yelp, I feel like a fool for ordering from this place.
Something tells me it was cooked in someones apt upstairs from the train station. They should stick to the world wide web and stay out of the kitchen.

  2. As Bill Lumbergh would say: "I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there."

This restaurant made me want to cry.  I WANTED to love this place, SO badly that it hurt.  I became physically ill giving this place 1 star.  Jesus.  I had such high hopes…

You see, Spanish restaurants are notorious for cheating on their taxes errr… I mean, being cash-only establishments.  That's a problem for me, because a) I never carry cash, and b) I like putting all expenses on my airline miles card.  So when I find a Spanish restaurant that accepts Visa, I jump for joy and do a happy dance.  Unfortunately, my happy dance was short lived, because franky, the food here is some of the worst food I've ever received at a Spanish restaurant.  Seriously.  The Worst.

First the good.  The place looked very clean.  It was nicely decorated, which is unusual.  Spanish places are often sparsely or poorly decorated.  This place looks like the owner put money into it and takes care of it.  Nice place.  Just a few yards from the D train's Ft Hamilton Pkway stop.  The people who work there are very friendly and eager to please.

Now the bad.  The only non-food gripe I have is that the music was turned up waaaay too loud.  But hey — as Peter Griffin says, no noise is ever quite as loud or annoying as unwanted Spanish music.  That's the only non-food gripe I had.  Now let me talk about the food.

    Cares / Meats
    ===========
Chuleta Frita (Fried Pork Steak): C-
Basically a fried pork chop.  The cooked the HELL out of this chip.  The poor chop was cooked so roughly that it had the consistency of beef jerky.  Burnt.  Chewy.  Dry.  Hard.  Dry.  The reason why it received a C- and not a D is because at least the meat itself had nice flavor.  But .. oh my god… I've never had a pork chop as overdone in my entire life.  Seriously.  I'm not making a hyperbole.  They cooked it bone dry.  When I tried to bend the meat, it cracked.

Papas Con Cuero (sic) Pork Skin and Potato: F
Yes, an F.  Have I ever given food an F before?  I don't remember.  Seriously, an F.  As in, I put a forkful in my mouth, chewed, then spit out everything in my mouth onto the plate and threw my entire meal away.  That bad.  Picture pork skin.  You're probably thinking of chicharron.  Or perhaps pork rinds.  Something crispy, maybe with nice fatty meat on it.  Not this.  Picture stripping the skin off a pig and then boiling the skin until it's red and tasteless.  Ever had boiled meat before?  Not in a soup or stew.  Just boiled meat.  It's disgusting.  It's like eating a corpse.  Not that I've eaten many corpses.  Seriously.  So you have this tasteless gelatinous pink fatty hairy boiled skin in a … peanut sauce.  Peanut sauce?  Peanut sauce!  My wife (who is Hispanic) was flabbergasted.  Peanut sauce on Spanish food?  Wow!  i took a bite, and threw the rest out.  Luckily my wife was given 2 pork chops, so I ended up gnawing on a brick-hard dry pork chop for the rest of the evening.

    Humitas: B-
Nice flavor but dry and boring.  If it weren't for the sauce they give you, it would've been a C or worse.  It's just corn meal.  Nothing else.  I was expecting something in the middle, like cheese or pork, but no.  Nothing.  Boring.  Dry.  Yuck.

We will order from here one more time, just because they accept Visa.  Maybe we chose unluckily.  Maybe the next time around will be better.  I'll update my review next week when we order from this place again.

  3. Ordered food from here off Grubhub at 8:30PM.  It didn't come until about 10:20.  Luckily GrubHub took care of us, but needless to say I won't be ordering here again.

It's a lot of money for big portions, so imagine each dish as 1.5-2 meals should you decide to chance it.  Maybe they do that because you'll be hungry enough for that much food in the week and a half it takes for them to deliver it.  When it finally came, the delivery guy wouldn't come in the building when I buzzed him in.  I had to go out to meet him, and discovered that somebody left the building door open anyway.  He had been standing in front of an OPEN door, waiting for me to come down and collect my food when I was in the hall outside my apt waiting for him to, uh, DELIVER it.

I got the breaded chicken cutlet, it came with french fries and rice/beans.  Very standard stuff, nothing great or particularly bad.  Though who really knows what it tasted like at the time I ordered it, which was shortly after the American Revolution.
