I'd recommend that you check out this place for lunch if you work in midtown; their lunch set comes with a free plate of spring roll and salad at very reasonable prices ($10-$15)
Even though I haven't tried many dishes here, I would suggest that you go with a safe choice by ordering drunken noodles with shrimp. Shrimp is properly cooked to have a crispy and tender texture, and noodles are cooked with the right amount of spice.
Watch out for the long line if you go between 12:15-1:30pm. In addition, there is room for improvement on their service.
Another midtown east lunch.
So, I came here because of the great reviews for lunch and since I hadn't had Thai in quite a bit, I decided to give it a try.
When we arrived, it was a 5 min wait, not bad since the place seems to be really popular.
Now, in another review, someone mentioned that the place smelled like dog…I was really hoping that wasn't the case but DUDE, IT SMELLED LIKE WET DOG. It really turned me off and I was praying it wouldn't stick to my clothing or hair.
Anyhow, aside from that, the food was pretty good (I had the shrimp drunken noodles) and the pricing for a midtown east lunch was amazing. $9.95 for a spring roll, small salad and entrée. Can't really beat that.
However, I don't think I will be back because I am really sensitive to smell.
Incredibly quick service with decent food. I called them at 8 PM when I was about a two minute walk away from the restaurant. I ordered a drunken noodles and asked for chicken, and by the time I got to the restaurant I waited two more minutes, and then it was finished. Super quick service. The food is also pretty good, and very reasonably priced considering the area that it's in
LOVED this thai place that's SO under the radar!!! EVERY dish we ordered was DELISH 4.5 stars!!
–spicy potatoes: perfectly seasoned crispy thin fried potato appetizer
–curry puffs: nicely fried puffs to share
–green curry w/ beef: definitely one of the better thai curries i've had!! yum
–pad thai w/ shrimp: the noodles were nice & al dente YAY, i hate soggy noodles and these were perfect
–drunken noodles w/ chicken: actually a spicy kick & not too oily!
–crispy mango duck: the duck was good, i've never tried this dish before, great suggestion by the waiter
–eggplant: pretty standard dish, tasty!
–mango sticky rice: rice was perfectly cooked with a good ratio of evaporated milk! mango was ripe to perfection
–taro custard: never had a dessert like this but i'm a fan! looks weird but tastes good
gotta come back during happy hour 5-7 pm!
NOTE: Staff was so nice & even let us stay 1 hour past closing since we came in late!
Stopped by for the lunch special. Wait wasn't very long, the place is clean and simple inside. I ordered the Shrimp Fried rice that comes with a veggie spring roll & salad, plus a Thai Iced Tea.
The Thai Iced Tea I've definitely had better elsewhere. This one tasted like the equivalent of the bottom of a coffee pot; didn't satisfy my quench. Needless to say I regretted it.
The shrimp fried rice came with three large shrimp, JUST THREE, shell on – which wasn't nearly proportional to the amount of rice they gave. I was not impressed. The rice was soft and poorly mixed; there were chunks of white rice clumped together throughout the bowl. Definitely not the definition of 'fried rice'.
The salad doesn't come with the typical Thai dressing most restaurants serve, this one was high on the ginger scale.
Overall, I am not impressed. Lunch special + drink = ~$14
On a brighter note, the staff was nice!
It was just okay. I don't need to go back. The place wasn't super crowded when we walked in and we ordered the chicken satay as an appetizer. It had a weird texture. My boyfriend thought it was either frozen and the texture had been compromised or it was lower quality chicken. It did have kind of a spongy feel.
I ordered the chicken pad Thai. It was fine. Pretty standard. My boyfriend got the spicy basil fried rice. He liked it. The service was so so slow. We had to flag them down for water and for the bill. Pretty much the only time we saw the server was when he dropped the food.
There's a lot of thai places in New York and this is on par with a lot of them. I've only ordered for delivery but have had solid experiences all around.
I've gotten the duck, and the chicken Pad Thai. The duck was very good, however I do not think it was good enough to warrant the up charge that comes along with it. The chicken pad thai is pretty good and they give you a healthy portion – certainly enough for leftovers.
Overall, Peak Thai is a solid thai option in the area.
Ok food. Horrible experience. My friends actually made me lower the rating because they're a lot angrier than I am. They want to give them 0 stars.
Just beware for all those who come here. Stick to what you know. My friend tried the pad thai and said it smelled like dog food. Also, he wanted to add that the entire restaurant smelled like dog food. I wouldn't know but I had to trade plates with him because he looked so uncomfortable.
Okay. I was about to give this place a four star review because I actually liked the food. It was great! I would've been a repeat customer had it not been for the HORRID service. I understand your restaurant is busy during lunch. I get it. But I've been to plenty of busy restaurants that can still handle the customers.
I also hate to point out names on reviews, especially bad ones so I won't drop names. But the waitress wore red toms while I was here. Her behavior toward me and my friends was what made me turn this review from great to bad. It started out ok. We asked for separate checks and she said to let them know in the beginning so that they could handle that before we ordered. That's fine and we apologized for it. Turns out the orders were all the same price so she put them on one receipt and we put three cards down. Standard. We do it all the time. Then she takes the cards and says "Do any of you have cash?" to which we answer no, sorry we don't have cash. Then she lets out this really audible "UGH!" and walks away angrily. Woah, I'm sorry if you have a cash policy here. At least post more signs because not everyone sits near the front (not even sure if there's a sign there but there better be or else she's just an angry waitress). Service really makes or breaks it for me for ANY restaurant. You can have amazing food but if you don't have the service to match it, it ruins the whole experience. Not to mention that my friends also had a hard time understanding the menu so we asked a male waiter to explain it. Without saying a word, he rolled his eyes and grabbed a more "detailed" menu and slapped it down on the table and quickly flipped through the pages and read the titles "Entree, Curry, etc". We could've read that ourselves and they were still confused because the menu didn't help much.
