  1. Beautifully renovated train station is now a casual family steakhouse much like Charlie Brown serving middle-of-the-road American food: salads, burgers, a couple of pizzas and a lot of heavy protein entrées. Offers 6 taps in the bar: macros like Coors light, Stella, Yuengling, and Blue Moon; micros like Long Trail and Ramstein. Also many drinks named after train lines and confusingly labeled martinis but with nary a drop of gin, I tried the Sante Fe which included tequila and grapefruit juice, interesting, $12.

On an exceedingly quiet Sunday night the staff was very friendly and helpful, but our visit was a comedy of errors which included serving adult root beer instead of the kiddy kind, burgers cooked too little or too much, the wrong food brought and an entire entrée forgotten. Oh our waiter Hector was very apologetic but after the second problem it starts to get a bit ridiculous, and our party went well past that.

Rolls with whole garlic cloves baked in arrived with butter, yummy. We started with tuna tacos, generous portions of cubed raw fish inside wonton wrappers fried into crisp taco shapes, perhaps a bit too much sweet pineapple sauce, served on a huge plate of coleslaw, $10 for 3. I ordered the kale salad but received arugula instead, love that too, olives both with and without pits were mixed in, it was easily enough for 3 people but only $7. The burger people were happy if the meat was cooked to their specs, which mostly wasn't the case; the fries were fat and pretty good, burgers fairly priced at $11 including those fat fries. Mine was the entree that got forgotten, the flatbread was baked enough when it finally appeared and topped generously with cheese, peppers and sausage, but I sure wouldn't rush to Boonton for this pizza.

Veggie rating: 2 stars cos the only entrees are penne pasta and pizza margherita, and the only app is truffled potato chips. The eggplant tower salad might save you tho.

Had a *really* good sound system pumping out smooth jazz, lights on rails above the main dining room that was once the waiting room, I think maybe they have DJs or bands here, or it's as much an event venue as a restaurant?  I perhaps enjoyed the old train-line advertisements as much as the food.. that's damming by faint praise right there.

May soon open an outdoor patio so you can drink right next to the tracks. That doesn't exactly ring my bell, I confess.

  2. Boonton Station which recently opened in Feb of 2016 is a new alternative for bar and grill food in the Montville/ Boonton area. Completely renovated with plans to put in an outdoor patio this place has a lot to offer. Tasteful and charming on the inside couple a delicious meal for a fair price.
I went with the Calamari for an appetizer and the Station Burger as my entree. Burger was cooked perfectly, bun was delicious and the mushroom and onion spread topped with cheddar really hit the spot. I think this place will do well, come out and support them.

Update: covered patio is open and really tranquil. Came back w the fam for burgers and both were perfectly charred with a juicy tender inside. I literally devoured it, should had two.

  3. Food was very good on an initial visit, and very well priced in a nice environment within a historic building.  Tuna tartare "tacos" were excellent, as was the blue & bacon burger which was cooked perfectly.  Drinks were good, and wine list was fine but has some room for improvement and it sounds like this will be happening shortly.  Service was a bit uneven at times which is expected in the initial weeks of operation but I have every confidence this will be a long-term neighborhood staple and top restaurant which I look forward to visiting again when I'm in the area.  Nice job!
