Panang curry with shrimp is where it's at.
Small, adorable and a touch of style– Galanga proved to be a great dinner pick for our large group of nine gals. Since it was my bachelorette, we went for Thai (my absolute fave). I was pleasantly surprised at how tiny the place is, but that they still took reservations and accommodated us at a long table in the center of the restaurant.
A cute, stylish, friendly server took our orders of dumplings, spring rolls, corn firtters and more. All delicious and perfectly portioned. The girls opted for a couple pitchers of sangria, while I went old lady and opted for a cold glass of chardonnay. Hungry (and already quite tipsy), I went with my usual panang curry with shrimp. I order this meal at my favorite Thai spot in Dallas (Si Lom), and didn't expect it to match up with this standard. Surprisingly it did. With flying colors!
When it comes to value, excellent/ attentive service, and ambiance, this is an excellent pic. Prime location- so if you're up to go out or get some walking in after dinner, it's a perfect night out.
We had a big rowdy dinner here after a book launch party and I don't think our servers appreciated our volume and enthusiasm. But we had a great time. The cocktails were strong, the food pretty good.
One of my go to spot around NYU. Normally there is no need to wait for seats. The food is simple Thai. General portion. Cash only.
My go to dish is the pad Thai. It is more sour and lemony than most pad Thai on other restaurants. The color is lighter. You can always ask for spicy sauce if needed. Their spicy sauce is also the sweet-and-sour type of spicy, not real spicy for me.
My friend got seafood drunken noodles, which was nicely flavored and came with a lot of seafood (salmon, squid, shrimp, scallop).
Their The five spices duck is very nice. No weird smell of the duck and the meat was tender.
In general, a legit Thai place that won't give you any major disappointment (but also probably no surprises either).
In an effort to introduce my boyfriend to new flavors, we came here last week, and I'm so glad we did.
I ordered a dish with vegetables, tofu, noodles, and a peanut curry sauce. It was spicy, but I thought it had the perfect amount of heat. It was a very balanced meal and wasn't an overwhelming portion, but wasn't a skimpy portion either.
My boyfriend had the green curry dish. It had a bit of a warning on the menu about its spice, but woo wee! It was a little overpowering. Overall, though, he really enjoyed it – but maybe next time he would ask for a little less spice.
The decor was also our style – laid back but nice. Nothing overly ornate, but clean and simple. Some industrial-style lights made the ambiance exactly what we were looking for. 🙂
With a vast array of Thai places around NYC my expectations are always high. Had the duck spring rolls which had nice flavor but we're lacking any punch. The pineapple fried rice was full of fresh veggies, but could have used more flavor. The cashew chicken dish had complex flavor and depth, but had only a few prices of chicken and was mainly peppers. Overall a good spot, but definitely not my first choice for NYC thai.
We went here for dinner and shared shrimp green curry with my wife. They have outstanding service and amazing food. both me and my wife loved our curry and enjoyed the great service. We enjoyed it so much that were thinking about when should we visit again! Will definitely go back and definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys Thai food.Only issue was that they were cash only on the night we went there but there are plenty of ATMs around so not a big deal.
Huge portion, was able to have lunch and a half dinner with my entree. Really tasty, well cooked beef. I was only saddened by the Thai iced tea, was not as sweet as they tend to be, and it had a lot of evaporated milk so it was not as rich as it could've been. Nice ambiance, great view of pedestrians from our table (right next to the sidewalk). It's a great place to meet up with a friend and catch up on life on a Sunny day over the weekend.
The somtum here is good, it's not spicy at all. It's composed of green papaya, halved cherry tomatoes, carrots, and some raw green beans. I enjoyed it.
The duck egg rolls were okay, they tasted strongly of duck meat.
I didn't like the mango and sticky rice here. The mango cubes were mixed in with the sticky rice. For some reason, the sticky rice didn't taste that good. (I much prefer the version I had at Zabb City.)
I would have to try more dishes to give this place a more precise rating.
