Ocha

I've ordered literally over a hundred times from Ocha, and their quality/order ratio is very, very high.”
“Came here at 6:30pm on Saturday and all five of us were seated immediately.”
“The basic rolls were about average in cost, but the signature rolls seemed a bit steeper than a lot of the places I go to.”

So, my college roommate and I — we hadn't seen each other in 30+ years! — walked down Restaurant Row, looking for a place for lunch. Reading menus, we found specials priced in the mid-twenties, but neither of us wanted to spend that much.
Then we came across Ocha. A bento box, plus bowl of miso, was priced at about $11.00. There were several items to choose from — I picked teriyaki chicken, R chose salmon — but seeing sushi at a neighboring table, I was sorry I didn't go with that. (I'm adverse to eating raw fish in restaurants I'm not familiar with.)
Aside from the attractive price, the food was really good. Plentiful portions, too. And to our delight, nobody rushed us out, as my former roomie and I sat there catching up on each other's lives.
Good place!

Food: good. I had the avocado and ginger salad to start which was simple, but refreshing and delicious. Three rolls – shrimp tempura, philly roll, special spicy tuna wrapped in cucumber. All were good, but I now know I prefer rice wrap to cucumber. My guest had their bento box with a couple of house rolls. For about $12, the bento box was quite large so definitely a value play.
Service: polite, knowledgeable. I was there for a business lunch and we chatted for quite a while after eating. The place wasn't busy at all, but they certainly did not rush us out which I appreciated.
Atmosphere: small, kind of a half floor down, not a whole lot of natural light, but fine. We had lunch at noon which I know is a little early, but the place was pretty dead.
Misc: I'd go back.
*Take Out and Delivery Only*
So this used to be my go-to take out and delivery place because of its speed, price, and proximity to my home and work, but over the past few months they've gotten progressively worse. While I am all for loyalty, I don't think I can order from here anymore.
My last order was for a chirashi dinner set, which is my usual go-to, and even though the quantity of fish in that bowl has shrank in recent orders, I persevered because I was in a rush and needed dinner to arrive within 30 minutes. Seamless had them quoted at "15-25" so I ordered, sat back, and waited. After 45 minutes I called them and they told me the order was just leaving. Another 15 minutes later, my food finally arrives.
This would not have been the dealbreaker alone, but when I opened my order I noticed a white growth on my salmon pieces. I don't know exactly what it was, but my natural gut reaction (and I think probably the right one) was that the fish had gone bad. I threw those pieces out, but was hardly in the mood to eat the rest of the food.
Two stars and not one because 1) I've never actually eaten in the establishment so maybe their dine-in service is better; and 2) because they were solid for the better part of the last two years, so perhaps I just had a few bum orders in a row.
Your standard average Japanese place. I think we came in thinking this was the fancy Japanese place that was actually across the street. No doubt in my mind, it wasn't. Average prices, nice big sapporas, and not a customer in sight.
The food was good, but don't come to people watch!
How can I not rate this place 5 STARS? It's where i met my gf, and future!
It's small, and the girls are very quick and friendly. You can tell it's kind of a local's place, because everyone know what they want, and are fairly quick!
If you want good sushi without paying exobitant prices, I highly recommend this place1
Especially if you split a bottle or two of saki!
The bathroom is downstaris and difficult to navigate, so if you have mobile issues, this probably isn't your place!
5 STARS
Great place for an inexpensive and quick lunch. Nothing was outstanding but the quality matched price and service was prompt and kind.
This restaurant is one of many along this street, the outside is nothing to write home about, more like entering a basement, the interior is cramped with light colors wooden tables and chairs.
The waitresses are friendly and very efficient with getting our food to the table and keeping our water glasses full.
I ordered the colorful Bento Box, the portions are nice, the fish was very fresh and the presentation was colorful and clean. The prices can't be beat especially by Manhattan standards.
I'm glad DH and I popped in here on a whim. We had a nice time and the noise level was not bag considering this place was tiny.

This cozy little place is on 46th Street's restaurant row between 8th and 9th. The fish is fresh and menu offerings are extensive. The sashimi sampler was generous, and the salmon tartare had a great sauce. We ate at the top rated Sushi Yasuda two days earlier, and Ocha was much better at a fraction of the price. Service can be a bit inattentive, but if you're in no hurry it's a great choice.
