This place is much needed in Astoria. There aren't many Vietnamese places in the area and this will do just fine. It's a little more modern with a twist on some dishes but executed well. Also the little nods to tradition are wonderfully incorporated.
Cocktails are nicely done and they're building up that program nicely. They also have really good fresh limeade, Vietnamese coffee, and wine/beer options.
The Fried Chicken Wings with Taro Fries are a sticky goodness that whets your appetite. 4 juicy wings with amazingly crispy taro fried hits the spot. The Taro Fries are starchier than the normal potato and works well here.
The Spring Rolls come in 3 wrapped neatly in rice paper. Make sure you eat them the right way-piping hot and wrapped in the lettuce dipping in the nuoc mam. The rice paper wrapping in Vietnamese spring rolls lend to a lighter and crispier mouthfeel.
They call it Grilled Rice Paper which is a rice paper topped with egg, dried shrimp, pork, bean sprouts herbs, peanuts, and fried shallots. Get your hands dirty with this one! Rip from the bottom and carefully curl up the ingredients in a boat-like shape and eat away. At first I thought it was bánh xèo but it seems like it but without the egg crepe base. I tried to ask someone there but the waiters are not Vietnamese so they don't know.
Betel Leaf Lamb seems to never be in season unfortunately. I've asked every time to no avail.
The Wood & Herb-Smoked Brisket Pho has a great almost barbecue flavor to the meat. The broth was clean and had a great beef flavor. I added the oxtail to this dish and it was great. It may be a bit chewier for people who aren't used to it but I liked the texture a lot. I also have gotten the Round Steak & Angus Brisket and added Tripe and Tendon. I'm super happy they added this add-on to the menu. The Pho comes with Fresh beansprouts, basil leaves, fresh chili, and wedges of lime. The All-Natural Chicken Noodles (Bún) had fresh tender chicken and was a nice refreshing lighter dish.
As this place is quite new, they're still tweaking the menu. I would love to come back and try brunch… maybe as soon as this weekend. I'm already a big fan and hope they keep it up.
I've been looking for a restaurant that has pho in Astoria and finally found one, right on Broadway!
The service was friendly and quick. I got the chicken pho along with spring rolls which were amazing! They have combo specials with sandwiches and pho soup which were also delicious.
When you first walk in you're sweeped away by the decor of the place and the enonrous space they have. Waiters are super helpful in suggesting dishes and if it's your first time having pho this would be a great place to start. Usually pho would have raw sliced meat but this place has the option of having chicken pho. So if you're worried about raw meats in your dishes than go for the chicken pho. Add-on's are an additional cost but worth the price.
We order the chicken pho with oxtail and beef tendon meat balls. Broth was delicate

Summary: Having cocktails and pho at the same time? Come to mama. Additional plus: it's vegetarian friendly! They will be having a contractor come out to fix their AC, so I'll definitely return for another round of grub.
It had been a while since I had gotten some Vietnamese food and I was craving some vermicelli noodles. And I definitely found the right spot to calm my craving! We tried the chicken wings with taro fries and I got the vermicelli noodles, both were amazing! The service is also impeccable here, everyone always has a smile on their face and your water glass never goes empty. I'll definitely be back
Usually district Saigon is my go to place for pho, but the last experience I had wasn't a good one. My wife ordered the beef pho with brisket only which came out cold and the meat was mostly flank steak. Upon telling the waiter, he seemed to be insistent that it was brisket but it definitely didn't taste or look like it. I also had the beef bun vermicelli which tasted good but was half the portion it usually was. This place is on the pricier side so I feel like this experience ruined this place for me.

Let me start by saying, I really like pho but not to the point that I'm a pho snob. District Saigon's pho is good but not stellar. I did like the fact that I could add tripe and tendons which I did and could have added ox tail or meatballs which I did not. I also had to request cilantro which was minced rather than whole leaves. My wife got the beef stir fry which she enjoyed. Hence the food is not bad but it is not superlative. Prices are very reasonable.
The wait staff was very nice and the atmosphere quite pleasant. It's worth checking out if your in the mood.
When this place opened, I was so happy that Astoria finally had a Pho place! We ended up visiting on opening night, and had a great meal. The pho is pho-nominal…. sorry I couldn't help myself. I've tried a couple of different versions, and like all that I've tried. I also tried the Steak scramble(I think that is the name) and it was delicious!! I would highly recommend it if you're not in a hot soup mood. The cocktails are stong and very unique, and service is always fantastic. I love this place, and plan on going back soon!
So, they changed their name I guess? Probably so people would make the Vietnamese connection better?
Whatever the case, the upscale take on Vietnamese food isn't bad, but it wasn't crazy amazing either. We came here to meet up with another couple to try it out it seemed like something the neighborhood was missing and with a swank face of food that I usually equate with hole-in-the-wall places. We ended up getting the salt and pepper shrimp which was the highlight, there were four of us and 5 shrimp so there was his inevitable awkward, I don't want to look like the greedy a-hole but it's so good kind of wait. The wings were too sweet but half the group thought the taro fries were good.
Of course I was going to get the pho here and went with the 'wood and herb smoked' brisket as opposed to the round steak and brisket. Whatever the difference was besides two bucks I don't know. I'm glad they went to all the trouble of smoking the brisket over wood and herbs but you put it in beef broth that's already heavily herbed and spiced so I'm not sure if that effort went towards anything besides making it a cool story. I'm not going to compare it with cheap pho places because I think that's an unfair comparison so what I will say is that I thought it was just okay.
The wife got the vermicelli noodles with beef but they messed up her order and ended up having the chicken one for some reason. They fixed it pretty quick, the meat was good but the overall experience outside of the ambiance and the drinks wasn't anything noteworthy.
