For Bahn mi, I believe it all starts with the bread and these guys have maybe the best bread I've tried: lightly crispy on the outside but incredibly soft on the inside. The ground pork is flavorful and the accoutrements fresh and delicious. My only suggestion would would be maybe a little less sauce (mayo+chili) as it took on more of a gooey philly cheese steak quality that I don't associate with Bahn mi. Overall, a great sandwich and a steal at $6.50 a pop!
Decent Vietnamese food for the area, but not the best I've had. I didn't get a chance to try the Banh Mi, but did share the Grilled Chicken Rice Plate and the Pho with my boyfriend.
The grilled chicken was seasoned well and was very moist, not overcooked. But there was a whole lot of rice compared to the chicken/veggies on the platter. The Pho was also alright. It was good, but not the best. It lacked some basic flavor I've tasted on other Pho. You can tell ingredients were missing.
If I were to give it a try again, I'd try the Banh Mi this time. I wouldn't order the Pho or Grilled Chicken Rice plate again.
Hovers at 2.5 stars for the food itself. The affordability of their sandwiches bump them up to 3 stars.
The Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwich) is tasty. The grilled chicken is moist and packs a gentle kick (mild version). It is slathered with mayo so the sandwich doesn't feel dry, but this takes away from the fresh, crisp feeling of banh mi's. The bread is not too tough or dry, but also not the freshest I've had.
The lunch special is a banh mi (6.50) plus a Boba drink (3.95) for 9.00 total. Not bad. The Thai Boba is a 2 star Boba. Doesn't have a Thai tea flavor. Kind of more like watered down milk with a Thai tea coloring.
The spring rolls were okay. The cilantro in them had long stems that made it hard to eat and were grouped on one end of the roll, leaving it unbalanced. Cutting the cilantro a little smaller would make them more spread out and easier to chew.
In the end, a good place to stop for a cheap meal but not something to write home about. If you're from California (LA or San Jose/Oakland) don't go out of your way to try this spot. Would be a 2 star compared to the Vietnamese joints in California.
There's nothing glamorous about this place, but the food is solid and that's what really matters. I got the vegetarian pork sandwich – the texture and flavors are all there that make a great banh mi sandwich… At least a vegetarian friendly one. As for their bubble tea, I'd skip it, it's just flavorless sugar with meh tasting tapioca.
This place was super busy on a Saturday afternoon.. which is a good sign! Very limited seating and it's a very small place. It was a bit dirty because some customers left their mess and walked out like it was nothing – gross! Was the pho not good??
Anyways! My friend and I ordered a spicy shredded chicken banh mi (to split since) and we waited for a really long time (30 min) – which is completely fine. It's the lunch rush hour. The only problem I had was that they used a lot of mayo and it was not spicy. It was still good.
I'm looking forward to coming back and trying their other banh mi!
Grilled pork banh mi is pretty good! The pork is really flavorful and I like that there's an abundance of the sriracha mayo and cilantro. It could be more well-stuffed though but otherwise, totally good late lunch by the Prospect Park/Brooklyn Museum area for $6.50.
BUT. I wasn't the biggest fan of the vermicelli noodles. The fish sauce is pretty weak and there's just a huge abundance of noodles but not enough veggies or herbs. Meat was plentiful but I like a more balanced bowl. I had a whole bunch of noodles leftover in the end.
Service is perfectly nice and I like that the windows open up so it's pleasant to sit either inside or outside on a sunny day. It's definitely solid! Heard the bubble tea was a bit weak though.
It was a good and tasty pork sandwich. The matcha bubble tea, was a ok. I have one minor technicality, I love me banh mi sandwiches, but why does this particular shop leave the cilantro stems? I have been to several Banh Mi shops, but this was just terrible. Did they run our of cilantro? Or they feel that the cilantro stems are essential and full of fiber. Lets just say I was not pleased by this and spitting out them stems. Overall good and better than Subway restaurants.
These Bahn Mi sandwiches are the best, pho sure.
I'm very grateful Bahn Mi Palace has opened in my neighborhood. This place has provided me with one of my favorite dishes, just several blocks from my place. It's great for tastebuds, but bad for my gut.
It's not just having some any generic sandwiches. These are some of the best I ever had. Succulent, juicy, with perfectly cut slices and pieces of meat. That pork! That ham! I really need to wrap this up cause I need one now.
Best of all, they are super inexpensive. Snag yourself a summer/garden roll combo too, you'll be full all night and won't even come close to breaking bank.
