Had a quick lunch today, i called ahead and i ordered a lemon grass chicken banh mi sandwhich. I was hungry and very much looking forward to it. The bread had a nice crunch not exactly a baguette more like an Italian bread but flaky and light. The usual suspects, pickled carrots, daikon, cilanto and jalapenos. However, the chicken was not grilled, it was more like sauteed and there was a sauce on the chicken it self as well. Good sandwhich but not good enough to be called a banh mi. I dont think i would have it again. I had the pork an the pork banh mi was better. Going to try the rice dishes next time. Good change of pace for a quick lunch.
A big resounding yes to Ngon! The chicken pho is as good as it gets, as are the summer spring rolls which come fresher than fresh with a delightfully spicy peanut sauce. The "com tam" is essentially a bowl of rice — we got ours with lemongrass chicken. And the banh mi, though a departure from the traditional sandwich (the bread isn't quite as soft and light as it should be, and my sandwich was light on the daikon), is quite pleasant. A word to the wise– Ngon is a to-go spot. I wouldn't actually want to sit at one of the 2 or 3 tables in the restaurant.
Welcome to the neighborhood!
Ah! I was so excited to try this place as soon as I saw it because they serve two of my favorite things: lemongrass chicken bahnmi and pho! They were both so rich in taste and PHOnomenal ! Seriously. This is definitely one of the better restaurants in the area and the food tastes so so authentic and the flavors will just leave you drooling (as I am wishing I had more). Thank you guys for blessing the neighborhood!
3.5 stars. Small place (3 tables) so don't come with more than 1 other person if you wanna get comfortable.
They have a simple menu of pho, banh mi's, rice bowls and a few appetizers. I ordered beef pho ($10) and it took F to the OREVER to come out…I think I waited 25 minutes and they first gave my order to the wrong person. Annoying when you're hungry.
The pho itself was quite good. The broth had a spicy kick and a strong basil flavor. The beef was a bit scarce though.
I prefer Saigon Shack but this is a good option if you're stuck in the area.
