I've heard good things about Luscious Thai and I finally got a chance to eat here on a Sunday evening. I dined with my brother, my sister-in-law, and their two kids and, although the restaurant is kind of upscale with dark leather cushions and candles at all the tables, they were super accommodating and nice with the kids. The service was prompt and the menu has a nice selection.
Personally, I'm a curry girl and I always go for the green curry when I try a new Thai place. Disappointingly, there was no green curry! So, I tried the massaman curry with chicken which comes with onions and potatoes. The curry was very good but quite heavy. It had a very strong after taste that stayed with me. I tried a bite of my brother's red curry and that didn't seem as heavy, and was a bit spicier.
I'd definitely like to come here again, but quite honestly, I'm really bummed there's no green curry!
We ordered lunch specials to go and had a great experience
For about $10, you get to choose a small appetizer AND an entree.
Their noodles are very well seasoned and I love the tom yum soup.
They were out of Mangos but I tired the coconut stick rice with lychees and it was yummy. $5 for dessert and it was a decent portion.
The restaurant looked very clean and modern.
I will definitely come back and try their other lunch specials!
This is the closest Thai restaurant to my apartment, so I've ordered in for delivery a few times when I did not want to go out. The curry puffs are good (but then, when is curry puff ever not good?), and the chicken dishes are decent. My favorite here is the Pla Had Prik (fried whole red snapper in a very tasty sauce), but one of the times I ordered it, the snapper tasted rather fishy, and clearly not fresh. I agree with fellow Yelpers Caitlin G and Grace H that the food here is good, but not outstanding, and there are a lot of great Thai options in Manhattan.
This review is for their takeout:
Walked in and ordered a larb salad and some vegetable red curry. My order was made very quickly and was wrapped nicely to take home.
Got home (5 mins) and everything was piping hot. The larb was spicy and very fresh. The red curry was creamy and had lots of different types of fresh vegetables.
Originally I hoped to save some for the next day, but it was all so good that we finished it all (now am completely stuffed!)
Will be back! Looks like they also have a $9.95 lunch special as well that id like to try.
Just around the corner from where I live, it was quite empty when I went in on a Monday night. It's deceptively small from the outside and easy to miss due to the signage, but once you're in, this place has a great ambience. There is a back seating area that is quite nice.
We were hungry, so we ordered:
1. Thai iced tea: Good portion, standard flavor, not too sweet. You've had these before.
2. Papaya salad: LOVED THIS! It was a good size, very fresh, and super spicy. Had not expected it and bit into a pepper. After the pain, the rest of the dish seemed like nothing. This is a great dish to share before your entrees.
3. Massaman chicken curry: Flavorful although not the largest portion. Wish it had slightly more chicken. Comes with a small bowl of rice.
4. Drunken noodles: Really enjoyed this dish. The flat noodles were very well-done and the beef was delicious. Only thing is that this dish was on the greasy side. It's OK, I would still order it again.
We wanted to try the mango sticky rice, but they were out of mangos for the night. Bummer!
I live around the block, and wish I had found this place sooner. Good Thai food at reasonable prices, and close to home. That's a win! I came here with my brother on a cold winter night. It seemed like the take out operation was busier than eat-in. There were only three occupied tables.
I ordered the pineapple chicken Thai fried rice. I usually have problems deciding between pineapple and cashews, and this had both! Was just what I needed to warm me up on a cold night. My brother got the traditional Thai fried rice, which replaced the cashews with tomatoes. We both agreed that his meal was a bit salty, and that the one I ordered was great.
Definitely plan on coming back for a hot, quick meal
Came here in a large group for dinner on a Saturday night. It was completely empty at 7PM and we got seated at a table at the very end. Even though nobody else was there, the waiter did not come for a long time so one of my friends eventually walked over to get him. The restaurant looks pretty nice on the inside. There are flowers and lanterns decorating the interior. The restaurant is SO dark though. We could not see any of our food and had to literally shine our phones flashlight on it to see what we got. The food tasted decent. I tried the shrimp clay pot and duck red curry (generous portion of duck). My friend who got the beef curry was still hungry afterwards. Another gripe I had was when the waiter came over to fill waters, he completely skipped my empty glass and I was really thirsty from the salty entree. Please make your restaurant, especially the back area more lit!
Just an update from my last review.
Returned to Luscious Thai, and it was delicious as always! While on our way home after a nightmare of a day, my boyfriend and I retreated to a cozy table in the back of the restaurant, with cushioned seats along the wall. There were very few other customers – we were actually the only ones in there toward the end of our meal. It was exactly what we needed to decompress after a terrible day. This is a good restaurant for a quiet and relaxing meal.
I also wanted to mention that Luscious Thai has gotten their liquor license and is no longer BYOB. I had a glass of the Chardonnay – it's oaky with a vanilla finish. Not my taste, but if that's what you go for, it's an ideal wine.
