I enjoyed an absolutely fantastic poppy seed bagel with lox, cream cheese, red onion, tomato, and capers.
The design of the place, with the wood oven and bakers right up front, is very cool.
If I lived close by, I would definitely come here all the time.
This bagel & salmon was perfection.
The un toasted Montreal-style everything bagel was just right on the salt, and not too doughy. I'm usually very biased towards well toasted, New York-style bagels, but this time, I'm coming around.
The balance of ingredients was really killer. Fish, veggie cream cheese, toppings – all proportionate. The salmon was fresh and plentiful. I added avocado, which added an excellent richness to it.
It was also my first experience using UberEats, and despite the fact that an item was left out, it's cool b/c I had the $20 promo code and the bagel was kick-ass anyways.
Not a bad bagel spot at all. Really nice interior with a restroom, high chairs, ample seating and excellent customer service. They open early so you can pick up bagels for your department on your way to work and be a hailed as a king until lunch. The bagels are "gourmet" yet affordable. They have other locations besides this one if you're in the mood for a wood fired bagel while you're in Brookfield Place, for instance.
Let's talk about these unique, flavorful wood-fired bagels. They are not a traditional bagel and they taste, to me, more like sesame pizza crust. But that is a good thing! They are not gigantic so you fall asleep immediately after eating them. They are not mass produced and all of this is great. Check of the wood burning stove when you walk in, it's fun for the kids.
I visited Black Seed twice in one week since my mom was visiting! The bagels are super tasty when they are fresh. I appreciate that they are chewier than most – I love my dough-y bagels!!
There sandwiches are tad pricey for what you get..especially since you could just buy a bagel for $2 and make a sandwich at home by yourself.. The avocado and tomato sandwich was an astounding $9.50!!! For ingredients that would have cost me less than $5 at a local grocery store. Crazy. Stop by for their bagels, but save yourself a couple of bucks and make your bagel sandwiches at home!
Still, I would definitely bring out of town friends here for their NYC bagel fix! The ambiance of the bakery is really cute and there is plenty of warmly lit seating in the back. Plus, you can watch them prepare the dough and stick them in the brick oven on your way in!
Bourgeois bagel spot that is actually good! When you walk in and wait in line, you can watch bagels being rolled, boiled, and baked in a wood-fired oven. Then the line takes you past the chalkboard-style menu, with over 20 different speciality sandwiches, divided up into fish, deli, grill, and pizza bagels. You can also make your own. It appears their speciality, or at least their somewhat unique bagel, is the multi-everything. When you order and pay you can use cash, which is both convenient and also kind of a must since most specialty bagels are around $10. I had #21 with avocado and tomato which was closer to $9. On a Sunday at 1:30, we spent about 20 minutes total waiting in line and waiting for our order. The bagel was smaller than most, but perfect for me–and also delicious! The avocado was super fresh and the bagel was loaded up with seeds, everything style. Yum!
This bagel joint is just okay. The place is overpriced and over-hyped. Not worth the money. The bagel is more like a mixture of NY and Montreal style bagel. The taste is mediocre. Won't come back.
These are my favorite bagels, period. I love that when you come in, you can see them prepping the bagels. I love the wood fired oven, it really does make a big difference in these deliciously crispy bagels.
I got a Multigrain everything bagel with beet cured lox, horseradish cream cheese, and radishes. The flavor was so great and spicy. The lox was GREAT. I loved the taste and the texture. Everything tasted super fresh and delicious and the bagel was the perfect, salty, crunchy, chewy vessel for the toppings.
My friend got a sausage egg and cheese sandwich on a plain bagel. It was great. The bagel soaked up all of the meaty juices/grease and made this soggy, delicious sandwich. It was so great.
I'm so happy I finally got around to trying black seed. Plan to stand on line for a little while but it moves quickly. When you walk in, you see the whole process of bagels being made which is awesome. It's just extremely hot because you're standing near the oven. There are a lot of sandwiches and spreads to choose from. I had the #21 which is eggs, cheese, avocado, and tomato on a bagel (I got an everything bagel) – let me tell you, it was wonderful. I could start every day with that sandwich and be happy as ever. The only complaint I would have is there was barely any avocado on it so I was a bit disappointed, but that didn't ruin the sandwich for me. The bagels are so fresh, chewy and flavorful. They're not giant fluffy bagels as most New York places make but they're special in their own way. Since it's such a busy spot it's usually hard to get seating so don't plan to dine in.
