  1. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing here but I honestly wasn't impressed. I wasn't thrilled already that it was a completely Vegan menu, but was willing to keep an open mind and try it since I like Red Bamboo in the West Village. Sadly, I was disappointed.

The good: the restaurant itself is beautiful with tons of space since it's two levels. The wait staff is friendly and attentive and the food came out quickly. The cinnamon iced latte is really yummy and was easily the best part of the meal for me, hence one extra star than I was originally going to give. I tasted a little of my friend's pizza which was better than what I ordered.

The bad: I had the Tofu Benedict which sounded decent on the menu but was honestly just not good. The only thing I liked was the side of roasted potatoes and asparagus. Instead of actual Hollandaise sauce (which is not vegan), they used turmeric and I think mustard (?) in whatever it was but that was a terrible decision since the strong taste of turmeric overpowered everything else, and each bite was interspersed with an overwhelming mustard flavor. Turmeric should not be the main ingredient in any food since it doesn't taste good, it should only serve to alter the color of the food. It was a very strange dish and I do not recommend it.

I guess if you're vegan this place is decent, and my friend said the dinner was good when he had gone before, but I'm not a fan. I think if you go here and are not vegan, stick to the dishes they can't really mess up, like French toast or pancakes. Stay away from anything that normally has eggs in it.

  2. I'm not sure what all the hype is all about, I mean Blossom is no candle 79. The difference in those two restaurants is like comparing your local curry joint to Indian Accent. One has serviceable food that feeds your belly when you're too lazy to travel and the other is a true culinary experience. I've been wanting to try Blossom forever as it gets rave reviews, but alas it was all for naught. The atmosphere is nothing fancy I would suggest sitting at the bar if you don't want to feel like you're sitting at a take-out place. The wine list is short but we did have a very good Israeli Carmenere that I would highly recommend. I ordered the seiten scallopini and my bf the soy bacon cheeseburger. Mine was ok, I did have to douse it in copious amounts of salt and pepper for it to actually taste like anything. The sautéed kale was good but the mashed potatoes had the strangest flavor, like those flakes that come in a box that I will admit I tried, just once. The sweet potato fries were definitely the high light of the meal. The soy bacon tastes nothing like real bacon and I do know there are better iterations out that and the burger was meh. I think my expectations were way too high and I was sorely disappointed. For a great vegan meal Candle 79 still has the rest beat.

  3. I absolutely LOVE it here. In fact, I crave it often. The first time I fell in love was when I came here for lunch after frolicking in Central Park. I had the Southwestern Quinoa Salad (black beans, quinoa, roasted sweet corn, diced peppers, watercress, toasted pumpkin seeds, guacamole, tahini dressing $15). It was delicious! Exactly how I like my salads… a little protein, here by means of the quinoa. Some creaminess in the form of guac with greens and crunch with the pumpkin seeds. It was piled high perfection on a fall day. So filling and flavorful! I also had a green spinach, cucumber, apple, lemon, ginger juice. The waitress was so kind and brought me a shot of the gorgeous beet juice because I just could not decide which of the many mouthwatering juices to order. The beet was not too "earthy" as beets can sometimes be, just as she told me it wouldn't be. You honestly cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Very fresh and clean, plant based options. Simple decor and outdoor seating which is a huge plus for me. This is always my go to when on the Upper West Side. I have yet to try any other locations, but I couldn't recommend Blossom any more. You will not be disappointed. A vegan must and a place to possibly convert a carnivore. You were warned.

  4. I have been to three of the Blossom's and unfortunately this one was the worst in terms of food.
The service is kind of the same all around, not entirely attentive wait staff but it is totally alright.
What was not good at all was my food. In the Blossom on Carmine I ordered sautéed kale as a side dish and it was superb, here it was tasteless and I didn't know how to help it. The sautéed spinach is also a no-go here… it was drenched in oil, tasted like nothing and made my teeth feel gritty for the remainder of the night.

My friend ordered the southern seitan sandwich which I indulged in because he wasn't hungry and that was good, but I shouldn't have to order an entirely fried dish for it to have flavor…

    🙁 Sorry

  5. Went here for a Vegan brunch with some family and friends. Got in pretty early and they were able to seat us right away.

From the beginning, service was on point. My cousin had called and made a separate reservation as we had been told they couldn't accommodate a reservation for 10. Since we showed up early the host sat us down and said that he'd look into combining our reservations. They ended up combining it with no problems at all.

Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. She recommended some dishes to the meat eaters in our group that really wanted some meaty less vegan type things.

I got a gyro and the country breakfast. The breakfast was quite good with a tofu scramble, roasted apples, vegan sausage, and French toast. The French toast seemed like it was made out if stale baguette and was very hard, not like the traditional soft ooey gooey type of French toast one is accustomed to. The gyro was OK as well. Not great, but not bad. The dressing inside the gyro was too watery so it was running out with every bite I took. It also came with a side, where I choose the sweat potato fries. The flavor was good, but these were cut a lot larger than I would've imagined. Sweet potato is a very soft vegetable so generally speaking the fries are cut smaller so they hold form better. These were pretty thick. Still delicious though.

3/5 because it was good and service was great. And is recommend trying it out, but some of the dishes didn't perform as well as I would've hoped.

  6. Made a reservation for two for a Wednesday night. Unlike their other locations, this spot is fairly large with two "levels" of seating in an upscale atmosphere.

Between the both of us: shared the Mushroom Tacos ($11), Pine-nut crusted Eggplant ($23), and the Savory Seitan ($23). The tacos came out first – two soft tortillas with mounds of veggies and mushroom. The slightly spicy sauce they mixed in with the mushrooms at the bottom really separated it from your usual fare at a Mexican joint. The crusted eggplant swims in a mountain potatoes, artichokes and this flavorful cashew sauce. Seitan has a weird texture to it…something of a cross between tofu and falafel. Once again, the rosemary tomato sauce that settled on the bottom really put the interesting touch on the vegetables.

Service here is friendly and fast, without being bothersome. Only complaint is that this place is particularly expensive. However, most of the dishes are big enough to be packed for a second meal. As a non-vegetarian, enjoyed how all the various sauces can be counted on to carry a meal. A must try.

  7. I came here for dinner last night and was extremely impressed with every aspect of my experience. Servers and hosts are lovely here-really personable and friendly. Atmosphere is romantic and cozy. I was so overwhelmed by the menu, because everything looked incredible, especially the seasonal specials.

I was sort of craving a burger, and moments later my friend mentioned that they serve, in his opinion, the best veggie burger in NYC. I ordered it with a side salad, which was massive and dressed with a delicious Cesar type dressing. Definitely the best side salad I've had in my life. The burger was perfect, piled high with tapioca cheese, faux bacon, and tomato/lettuce. Well worth the $17 price tag. I had the raw artisanal chocolates for dessert, which were equally impressive. Complex flavors and lovely presentation.

I plan to come back later this week just for cocktails and dessert, because their beverage menu seems too good to be true (vegan White Russians!). Definitely one of my new favorite restaurants in NYC. Highly recommended for vegans and omnivores alike.

  8. I'm not a vegan. My husband and I like to dabble in different cuisines, and another vegan option besides Thai choices, Peacefood and Candle were welcome. So
Blossom it was. Amazing food. We couldn't decide what we wanted, so we opted for several small plates. We got an enchilada special which was awesome. Our favorite was easily the buffalo vegan risotto croquettes. My husband doesn't even care for buffalo sauce "stuff," but he was very impressed.

The service left a lot to be desired. In fact, I would even say Blossom's staff probably did their best to try to get us to either leave before we were served and/or never return. Which sucks because the food was so good, we'd have definitely liked to return.

First we were greeted by a very rude hostess. Rolling her eyes (I am NOT exaggerating), she seats us in an area with a bunch of trendies and trust fund babies. My hubby and I are down to earth and working class. I'm sure in their view, we were NOT typical customers. Our money is green; and we are both very educated; don't judge a book by its cover.

And our server was "special." It took him TWENTY MINUTES to even get to our table (unless they were short staffed I could be understanding…but they were not even that busy). We had the water guy refill our waters twice before he even paid us any mind (his name was Jeremy, but we called him "Buddy Holly," as in "Buddy Holly isn't much of a waiter.").

As I said. We might not look like typical customers in their soho fashion designs, but we spend money and planned to do just that. We ordered drinks that NEVER CAME (adult beverages which I would Imagine is welcome because they are like $12 a pop).  When I mentioned this to Buddy Holly, I'm pretty sure the reaction I was looking for was one of horror and apology. Instead I got a, "oh I'm sorry? Would you like a coffee?"  Translation: you're done with your meal, you don't belong here, get out.

Seriously Blossom? I have seen several good restaurants close down for LESS. They have excellent service and good food and greedy landlords and rising rents drive out the good and unique places. I actually HOPE this happens to you.

Trust me guys – go to Peacefood.
