The service used to be sooooooooooo slow. Like wait 25 minutes for your food slow, but they've picked up the pace lately since they hired a third employee.
They've also greatly simplified their menu from illegible mish-mash to the point where you can comfortably and confidently say, "oh, yes, I would like one falafel on whole wheat, please."
Still, it can take awhile, so if there's a line, beware, people will be choosing their toppings like it's the last meal they will ever eat, and hold up the part of society that is still functioning.
Oh, you can also get 1/2 falafel for a slightly less price. Game changggger. Still, it takes forever.
Even though I work nearby today was my first time at this Maoz outpost in Central Park (closes Nov. 1 for the season). I was a little put off by the prices, having survived college on Mamoun's $2 falafel, but had a craving so gave it a go. Falafel was very yummy and the half sandwich plus a bag of chips left me feeling satisfied, not stuffed. I liked the variety of toppings and the service was good, very friendly. When they didn't have hot sauce they got me fresh Pico de Gallo instead, and threw in an extra falafel ball. I didn't get anything else, but they also have smoothies, juices and vegan rice pudding. Can't beat the setting either!
My wife being a vegetarian and big fan of falafels, lot of people recommended me to try this place if i ever been to New York. I was hesitant as there was no meat :(.
This place was really small but clean. You pick your entree , i picked vegan shawrma and my wife picked falafel so we could try both. For premium topping we both picked fried eggplant. It looked and tasted delicious.
Then you move down the line and put your own toppings in the entree (sandwich or Salad)
The toppings bar was full of fresh veggies and 4 types of salsa.
It was kind of overwhelming for my first time because there were a lot of people behind me and i didn't want to hold up the line but i wanted everything on my plate as you can put as much toppings as you like. :). I was being Greedy 🙂
We loved the eggplant.
Next time i visit New york we will definitely visit this place again
Came back on a sunny Sunday afternoon for a falafel sandwich. The sandwich was excellent, although had to wait about 25 minutes for the sandwich to be made after paying the cashier. The stand was not well staffed enough to handle all the people ordering.
Food was still delicious though. I definitely plan on coming back.
Summary: Surprisingly delicious falafel where they load on fresh veggie toppings. If you go on a weekend be prepared for long slow moving lines.
