Pho Grand
“Spring roll was also tasty, glad we found this place and will come back soon!”
“Their top notch pho, rice dishes, sinfully savory pork chops and cheap beer are first class (check out their NYT review from 2002!).”
“The only other thing I've tried here is the green papaya salad, which I have to say was disappointing.”

My sister always choses this place instead of Nam Son down the street and I always come along cause I get to eat for free. (I love being younger).
The broth here is more rich than Nam Son's and the food is plentiful. I always get full half way through my food and so does my sister. We always get the noodle dishes, it warms the stomach and really helps with a long day of walking.
The waiters here are friendly and attentive and if you ask for extra lemon they will provide it. Extra bowl of soup is $1.50. I think their soup is delcious but there might be a more than healthy amount of MSG in there cause my sister and I always leave parched.
The only major difference is that this place uses lemon instead of lime so that might upset some people. I will return to this place as there is always a guaranteed seat.
Ready for some decent pho rapid fired at you straight out of the kitchen? Well, you better be. This a really great place for some cheap eats in a casual setting. Came here with some friends for dinner. Ordered appetizers as well which were great. Although I might check this place out again if I am in the area there is nothing in particular that makes this place stand out. But this a good reliable restaurant of you are looking for that no stress middle of the week peaceful dinner.
We were told upon asking that "everything has msg in it", by our very brash waiter o_O
The upsides?
The food was cheapish and the dishes were humongous ($10 for a large saute chicken and vegetables that came drowned in some type of sweet sauce that wasn't mentioned on the menu and made what I thought was going to be a low calorie dish decidely not).
Our party of 8 had no problem getting seated walking in without a reservation on a sunday night
We were not rushed and we got a lot of entertainment from our waiters bizarre actions
The downsides
Obvious town our waiter was not the conventional polite server you would expect. Everything we asked for seemed to be a hassle for him and he got our orders wrong
The msg, duh
The food wasn't anything to write home about
Don't ask the waiter to take a picture for you. Somehow it will come out really lean and horrible looking
The atmosphere / decor reminded me of a cafeteria instead of a restaurant
This is my go to spot to get Vietnamese pork chop. It is right of the Grand B/D train.
I always order the #107 for Pork Chop and Rice for only $6.75. The best part is… you can order a side of porkchop for like $2.50 each. Yeah, I know right!
The only reason why I even bother to set foot in this place is because Nam-Son down the block is closed or and/or I really have no other option. I've been here several times in the past and each and every experience I've had here has been mediocre at best.
To sum it all up, this place provides mediocre (not superb) Vietnamese food. I recommend going to Nam Son. Don't bother coming here when they're about to close because they'll try to rush you and get you to leave like they did to our party. All the dishes that I've ordered looked half-assed and the cooks don't really put any effort into making the dishes presentable. We had to ask our waiter several times to refill our water cup and when he did, he spilled a good amount amount of water onto my food. Also we were presented with our check when we weren't even finished with our food yet.
Overall, I won't be back here again. And if you're thinking about ordering take-out here, prepare to wait a good half an hour.
I don't know why I liked this restaurant the first time I came here, but the second time I returned to Pho Grand with my boyfriend – the food wasn't up to par at all.
We wanted a quick bite in the area since we were in a hurry and also we were only parked at 1 hour meter spot so we stopped in at Pho Grand, but I regretted it afterwards.
Crispy Squid – The squid was edible, but didn't feel or taste crispy.
Pho Xe Lua – This is my boyfriend's default Vietnamese food he always gets. He said it was okay, but not the best he's had.
Grilled Beef on Rice Vermicelli – I wasn't really happy with this. The portion size felt small and I've definitely had rice vermicelli before that was a lot bigger with much more food inside. The noodles were very cold, but cooked. The beef was too chewy.
All in all, not the best Vietnamese meal experience. Not sure why the food didn't feel up to par, maybe they changed chefs, but I know I won't be back here next time I am itching for Vietnamese food in Chinatown.
I finally had a chance to try their pho. It's pretty good.
I tried the big bowl with everything and recently went back and ordered a different bowl without the brisket.
The brisket was extremely dry in my opinion so I was happy to be able to exclude it. My friend ordered extra tendon and it's definitely a smart move. It's not for everyone as the texture is soft, but if you like cartilage and the like then I'd recommend it.
Overall very good, taking a star away though because they didn't properly clean our table before we sat down and also we were without water for a while before we were able to spot someone to fill our cups.
This is with regards to a Seamless order that I made with the restaurant:
Okay. Don't get me wrong. The food from Pho Grand is delicious. I usually always order food from here. HOWEVER, today – I was pretty upset. I ordered some pho. I know it's my fault for not putting too much tip on the order. However, I was pretty upset when the guy knocked on my door. The food was left on the ground in front of my door – he looked at me angry and pointed to the bill: "You gave me a low tip. There are 5 flights of stairs. You should give us more tip."
Honestly, I felt bad, but at the same time – super enraged that he demanded more tip. I just felt like he was being super rude. Definitely won't be ordering from there again.
