This review is for the FULTON BRANCH and I stand corrected for the last one I posted. And because the manager was concerned and kind enough to point it out, I give an upgrade to 4 stars!
I promise to try all the other branches! I find it very appealing when your opinion is taken seriously.
I've been to this place twice. Yes it's affordable but I guess you'll have to go try crowd favorites first. I had the bacon, egg and cheese on a plain bagel which tasted very bland and dry. My next visit, I tried the chicken club wrap which likewise wasn't very pleasing to the tastebuds. The servers aren't really friendly at all. And poor cashier, she's like a robot. No eye contact whatsoever.
Solid regular bagel store. I think the bagels are above average for sure. The staff and attempting to order and pay can be a pain in the ass though.
i was visiting a friend in the 'hood and happened upon this shop! while it's not my top top favorite (sorry, the upper east side has my love), the shop produces medium density chewy bagels with a reasonably crisp crust and some mild flavor. my personal favorites are those that pull off a light crispy crust, airy inside, with a little tang. i was also introduced to my first bialy, which is nicely done, at the same price as a bagel. now to make my own at home! the flagels are okay — again, my votes are to the dense, chewy, rich, slightly oily, ginormous flats that my fave bagel shop stocks. but honestly, at a dollar each, how can one complain? also given that i live in boston these days, which is largely a bagel-less wasteland, getting a dozen with 2 free was quite a treat for my journey home.
If Bergen Bagels was in any other city, it would be the best bagel shop. However, you have to hold NYC bagel shops to a higher standard thus making this a three star experience. It's a small shop in Brooklyn and there's a long line if you go on a weekend morning. The line moves really fast and there are many bagel options to choose from. Since they didn't have chocolate chip bagels or a sweet, non fruit cream cheese (Why do you ruin sweet by putting fruit it in it?!), I ordered a sesame bagel with an egg, ham, and cheddar cheese. It was definitely a decent bagel, but not the best you'll have while in NYC.
Such a complete disappointment! Heard a bit about the place (good things as odd as it turns out) and having a few extra minutes this morning, went out of my way – thinking it would totally be worth the trip. I ordered bacon, egg, and cheese on a scooped out plain bagel …. I think they ran out of eggs when they were making my sandwich – there's barely an egg in there! Two slices of bacon, and possibly a slice of cheese … The bagel itself was also nothing to rave about. So not worth the trip and absolutely not worth the calories. Very upsetting start of the morning
Decent bagels (on the thicker side) but their everything is just lacking, well, a lot of things. Needs more toppings. I like all their spreads and love that they actually take cards with a $5 minimum. Passable coffee, both hot and iced. Amazing black & white cookies.
I think their service is also great. I've seen them deftly handle the long weekend lines as well as confused tourists on a weekday afternoon. Convenient to Barclays and the 2/3 but if you have a little more time, it's worth going a bit farther afield.
I've been wanting to try this place for a couple of months now. Today I was in the immediate area so I planned on stopping in. It's a small space, but nicely decorated. I ordered a bacon and egg sandwhich on a roll. It was almost 4 dollars and there was barely anything on the bread. It was the skimpiest sandwhich I have ever had in my life. Not worth it at ALL. Maybe it was an off day but I don't think I'll be coming here again.
Whenever I'm heading over to Gorilla coffee or Hungry Ghost, I make a stop at Bergen bagels first.
You can tell you found the right place for a bagel, cause you can smell them from down the street.
Stepping inside, you will be greeted by a long (though fast moving) line. I'm guessing they're all regulars too. The bagels are *THAT* good. Homemade & fresh, you may not even need to toast them.
I'm also surprised by the variety of cream cheese. I like the tofu stuff cause I'm lactose intolerant. And they have a bunch of different versions. I like Tofu Scallion. They also offer lots of other options for toppings. Tomatoes & avocados anyone?
Definitely a gem, and worth every penny. If you're around here, stop in.
