  1. I feel like a broken record whenever I review Thai restaurants in NYC. There are always average to above average. Few truly suck yet none really ever blow me away. This restaurant straddles the line for me, with more hits than misses, luckily.

I'm about to use a tired and oft repeated line: Their pineapple fried rice isn't pineapple-y enough. My quest for the most pineapple-y pineapple fried rice continues.

On the up, their fried tofu puffs were divine little pieces of puffy heaven, dipped in a sweet chili sauce. Their chicken satay was pretty perfect, with both a citrus dip and a delicate peanut sauce served on the side.

They only have wine and beer, no cocktails. Four of us picked a bottle of red wine from the seven reds and whites offered. We picked the cheapest. (Of course.) Out of the seven, only two bottles were available, and this was told to us after we had ordered. They were the most expensive red and the most expensive white. (Again…OF COURSE.) Being the wine-thirsty mavens we are, we just ordered the only (and most expensive) red and were contented. It WAS good…

It's a small establishment, sleek and modern with a friendly staff, fitting about 20 people in a cramped space, with Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah, and other traditional Thai music playing overhead. But! 'Twas a cute place. I dig it.

  2. Third time was not a charm. First time had been good, second time acceptable and now: ugh. Place went downhill fast. Ordered drunken noodles to go and somehow ended up with jungle curry. I was surprised at the miscommunication, but I suppose these things happen, and was too hot and tired after the walk home to go back to ask then to fix their mistake. But the real shock was how terrible this thing called curry was. A watery sauce that was more like a thin oily soup with no flavors except spiciness in which some old, limp green beans were placed along with sad little bits of chicken.

  3. Went in to order take out. Their spicy basil fried with chicken came out to $13. The staff is really nice and the food came out pretty fast too. Food was average.

  4. I've gotten take out from here a couple of times and every time, it hits the spot I'm craving for thai food but really doesn't do much more than that. I've tried the pad thai and chicken panang  chicken. Both dishes are quite good and I like that they use high quality white meat chicken but are lacking that spicy, curry-rich flavor of other Thai spots. However, the service here is quite quick and the prices affordable which is why I keep going back. Their Thai iced tea also looks pretty good and I'd love to try that.

  5. Veggie duck is delicious. So, I was very happy to see it making an appearance on this menu. The other nice thing is that they make provisions for it to be included in all the typical dishes (some restaurants only let you put it in a few). The prices were also very reasonable for the location and for what you are getting.

On the plus side: White rice came out in a fun cone shape. Veggie duck was plentiful and delicious. Good spice levels. Prompt and friendly service.

On the negative side: Sauces were kind of watery. Noodles kind of stuck together so they didn't have any sauce on them (perhaps due to the thin consistency of the sauce).

The restaurant itself is pretty small so I wouldn't suggest coming here with more than 3 or 4 people in your group. The food came out quickly and they had lunch specials so you can get in and out pretty quickly if you're on a lunch break.

  6. Very cute small Thai place right on lex close to 6 train by 86 . wait staff is extremely friendly and attentive. The menu offered a great selection of Thai curries noodle dishes pineapple fried rice and a whole vegetarian section.  They have Thai beer as well. They also have lychee ice tea which was served with two whole lychee .  I had the panang curry medium with chicken ( you can pick any meat item including duck) it is served with a side of white rice. The rice portion was a bit small, but more than adequate . the flavor was excellent. It contained carrots and string beans which were tender and not mushy. It is usually served with bell peppers but I asked them to hold this and they were more than happy to oblige. The bf had he glass noodles with chicken which again had an excellent flavor served with bok choy garlic and egg.

There wasn't a bite left on either of our dishes. Will definitely return

  7. Great pad Thai, great curry and well priced. Plus they have wifi. This is a place to go for sure.

  8. I've been to Thai @ Lex twice now, once eating in and once carrying out, and I really enjoy their food! It's affordable and the portion sizes are generous. It's pretty standard Americanized Thai food but I like that so whatever.

Both times I had a curry, most recently the "Thai @ Lex Curry," which is your typical coconut curry veggie dish. I asked for it extra spicy and they obliged. The veggies were all good quality and the portion, especially for carryout, was pretty big. I also really like their Thai iced tea! My friend had a beef dish that she loved as well. It was about $23 for two entrees.

The only issue I've had here was a carryout mixup yesterday. We ordered our food and waited at a table where they gave us water, which was a nice touch. The waitress brought us a paper bag of food inside a large plastic bag that we took back to my friend's apartment. Once we arrived and took out the paper bag, the receipt made it clear that we had gotten the wrong order! The staff was very helpful though, they remade our order and delivered it to us a few blocks away and asked for the other order back. No discount or anything for the mixup but they did deliver quickly and I personally didn't think it was a big deal. Maybe check your food before you take it home though, just in case!
