Your basic Vietnamese restaurant. I've been coming here for years now and I love that the food is always consistent (although the price isn't). This place is good for take out or dine in. The food is always good and it's solely for that reason that I give them the 3 stars. My go to is always the beef cubes or the number 1 pho bowl. They make good Calmari and vermicelli as well. Stay away from the bhan mi..
Pho haoi remained in this community for so long because of their consistency in making great food. Even though the service can be really slow, some times rude, the food is always good.
This place brings back good memories. I came here a lot after school with my grandmother and father. I'd say go for the no.1 pho of course. The pork chop rice. boluclac. the calamari. the grilled meats.
don't go for the curry.
great place!
This is your average local Vietnamese spot. This restaurant has been here forever and the food is always great. I come here quite often and can always rely on the beef cube lunch or dinner special. It's a great price for a very healthy portion of meat and onions. After a long workout or day of work, you need a little comfort food and this is the spot. Whether is a bowl of pho, spring rolls, calamari, beef cubes, or a view sandwich, it's all good. The food has been consistent over the past 10 years but I think there's a new chef in town, the beef cubes tastes different (not in a bad way). Anything you want from a viet restaurant you get here.
The only downside is the hygiene, the tables always have a stickiness that reminds you that this is home cooked meal kind of place. Most of the time we walk in, sit down, and order the same old, no need for a menu. But before you go pro, check out the menu. With that all said, I'm going back soon!
Ate here once, but we always order from this place.
Love the pho. We order the vegetarian one with no tofu but they always put tofu in it anyway, blarg.
Anyway, the food here is good. Things we get/recommend:
– Summer rolls
– Shrimp fried rice (it's banging and less greasy than fried rice from the surrounding Chinese spots)
– Rice with tomato sauce
– Vermicelli with spring roll (vegetarians beware: I once ordered this and the man on the phone swore there was no meat in the spring rolls, I knew something was off when my cats went crazy for them though, my next time there, I asked the person if the spring rolls had meat and he said yes. I asked if I could get a vegetarian option and they said they don't offer vegetarian spring rolls -______- )
Also, whenever you pay with a card they add a fee, but they don't tell you about this.
One of the better Viet Restuarants on Ave U. I have been blessed to have tried many Vietnamese Restaurants in PA and nothing compares. This establishment has been around forever and I will continue to visit when I catch that craving. Never really have to worry about waiting. You can never go wrong with a number 1 , banh mi, or beef cubes !
If you're looking for a "restaurant" experience or top-notch service, this place is of course not the place to come to. If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food and some great Pho then you may have just found your place. Inside though you will find a place that is very dated with a chaotic staff. However, the food is good and cheap. Try it if you're on a quest for some Pho.
This place is really packed and crowded for no reason. Maybe because the other Vietnamese restaurant in this neighborhood is packed or too far away. The food and service here is not the best, as a matter of fact, not even at average standard. Personally the food and service are interconnected, if I'm receiving bad service, there is no way the food will taste good nor will I enjoy it (personal feeling and opinion). The staff here are horribly rude and unfriendly except for the female waitress (sometimes). The guy with the glasses by the cashier usually is extremely rude and has a disgustingly nasty attitude whenever my mom and I go (had an argument or two with him before). I really do not wish to speak badly about this place because I've eaten here since I was little but it's just getting worse.
Their noodles are small in portion just put in an oversized bowl. Just order the number 1 here and you will see the bowl to vermicelli ratio is not at all understandable. I usually order the number 4 or 6 and as you already know, it's a smaller version of number 1 but here it doesn't matter because it's just like the number 1, if not, even less, like a mini version. Whenever we ask for bean sprouts to be microwaved or cooked, we get this unpleasant look, really don't know why.
The carpet in there makes the whole place seem dirty (not that it isn't already).
Takeout takes forever and he doesn't tell you your order is ready, you have to go up to him and ask then he tells you oh it's been ready… (I think that's probably only when I order).
On a side note, the trash and waste they dump out in the streets make the whole block stink at night and into the next morning. It honestly smells worse than Chinatown or Brooklyn 8th ave.
I would not recommend this place nor will I want to eat here again. I rather walk a few more blocks and go to the other Vietnamese place down Avenue U. Two stars because this place has been here since I was a kid. It honestly deserves one star if not zero!
Whenever I have a craving for pho in Brooklyn, I come here. There are plenty of street parking available so parking isn't a worry.
Even on a weekday this place is busy.
I usually get the pho noodle soup without any meat. Their broth is great on a cold day. And well, noodles are noodles.
My BF gets the cubed beef over rice. I've tried it and it's not bad.
The food comes out fast, service is fast.
