  1. I've eaten at the restaurant and have also gotten food delivered to the office. Long story short – the food just isn't great. If you want a place to go for a big group of people, this is a good option since they have plenty of space.

My first experience was when I ordered chicken and broccoli to my office. I have no idea how a chicken and broccoli order can go wrong, but somehow Saigon Market managed to pull it off. It was fine to eat, but it literally smelled (and kind of tasted) like the food was made in the same pan as some curry dish. I'm not even exaggerating when I say the smell filled up about half the office.

When I dined in, I ordered a basic beef pho at the restaurant, which turned out to be one of the blandest meals I've ever experienced. The broth could have been just plain boiled water as far as I was concerned, the meat was barely seasoned if at all, and although the noodles were bountiful, they tasted like nothing as well. I mean…even though I was coming in with minimal expectations after that take out experience, how can you mess up a bowl of simple noodles that badly?

Also random side note – how can you market yourself as a Vietnamese restaurant and not sell Bahn Mi sandwiches?

  2. Super spacious and centrally located restaurant right outside of union square. The restaurant looks small from the outside but extends way back to a huge room. Came in a group of 6 on a Saturday night and were seated in 5 minutes at a comfy booth.

For apps, we had two orders of summer rolls. While refreshing, I thought these were rather bland, since there was only vermicelli, lettuce, and a few shrimp on the inside.

For our entrees, four of us, including myself, ordered the large pho bo. This was really good! We had just come back from a ski trip and this warm bowl of hearty oxtail pho was perfect. There was a good amount of beef in it, broth was nice and full of flavor, and there was a huge amount of noodles. I was absolutely stuffed 2/3 of the way through.

I also tried some of the curry pork with pancakes and sticky rice. It was tasty as well, but sweeter and musher than most curries I've tried. I liked the concept of wrapping the curry and rice inside a thin pancake roll though.

Saigon market is a wonderful place for groups with an extensive menu that would cater to many different tastes. I would come back to try some of their other dishes for sure!

  3. I came here with a large group for my friend's birthday. Upon entering,I really liked the look and ambiance of the very spacious restaurant. There was wood brown and accents of hot pink in the lobby waiting area, with plenty of comfy seats. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant at a round table.

I ordered Vietnamese iced coffee, which I found to be too strong so I asked the waiter if he could add some condensed milk. The waiter brought me some extra condensed milk in a small container so I was able to add as much as I wanted.

A friend and I shared the Vietnamese shrimp summer rolls, There seemed to be a lot of noodles and lettuce but not much shrimp and the shrimp that was there, was quite small. The sauce was also not as tasty as other peanut sauces that I have tried.

For my entree, I ordered the pan friend noodles with beef and vegetables. I found it to be quite pricey at $18, though it was a pretty large portion. It came with baby corn, zucchini, snap peas, carrots, mushroom and chestnuts. The taste was okay, but not as flavorful or well seasoned as I like. The beef was particularly lacking in flavor. I did like the noodles though, as they had a nice crunch to them.

I tried a bit of the calamari, which was decent. If I do come back, it would be for appetizers. I would like to try the Appetizer Platter to be shared with a friend, which another person at the table ordered- It looked quite good.

  4. This place is supposed to be a Vietnamese Restaurant, but it has very limited variety of viet soup noodles… I believe there were only two choices available:  Pho Bo (Oxtail / Beef) and Pho Ga (Chicken).

I ordered the Pho Bo and the meat was ok, but the soup base was fresh, light, and tasty.

I also ordered the fried spring rolls. They were crispy and tasty.

This place is huge that can hold lots of people. The decoration of the restaurant looks great and enjoyable.

I came here around 1030 pm so the place was almost empty and not characteristic of normal business hours or how the restaurant would be in normal condition… So my review may be a bit not accurate…

  5. My bestie dragged me here one Monday evening against my will. I eat Asian food every night and didn't think it would be special.

But Saigon Market WOW'd me. From walking in, to ordering and getting the check…the entire process was so easy and smooth.

My bestie ordered a fried rice of some sort and I got the bun xao. Both plates were deliciously unforgettable and I'd order both again. We just kept eating off each other's plates like there was no tomorrow.

What was crazy was that our orders literally came 2 mins after we had placed them. It was so fast, I have yet to figure out how they did that!

  6. This WAS my favorite Vietnamese spot but after finding a bug in my wife's food, we won't be back.

  7. I always wanted to try out this Viet restaurant since I've heard so much about it and I'm always around Union Square.  When we arrived, we were seated right away. Water was bought to us,  menu was placed.  I ordered ginger pork with brown rice ($15.75),  and my friend ordered beef bun xao ($12.95). The food came out pretty quick.  My friend's beef bun xao was delicious, only thing that was missing was more flavor on the beef. The ginger pork was delicious.  Although due to the dim lighting in this restaurant, halfway towards the meal I got pretty paranoid that the meat wasn't fully cooked. I couldn't tell if it was uncooked or the meat was dyed with ginger or pepper.  As a precaution, we asked for it to be cooked again, which was no issue. But anyways the food was okay,  the service was great but a bit pricey in compare to the Viet places I normally go to. But hey, the interior of this place was pretty fancy.

  8. I usually order delivery from here but finally popped in to see what it's about. It's a huge space surprisingly. Service is friendly, the food is pretty standard slightly white-ified Vietnamese. I'm a fan of the crispy spring rolls but the pho and bun noodle bowls are pretty average.
