I crave this when I'm downtown. I am overly obsessed with cream cheese, and this is the only place downtown (so far) that puts on the cream cheese like it's my birthday (aka a lot). The bagels are always fresh and soft.
The downside is that it's relatively expensive and there is always a wait here, and, if there isn't, they semi- ignore anyone waiting until they feel like it. But it is a tiny little deli – and I guess I am probably just blinded by the delicious-ness of it all.
Good bagels, fast service. I was literally in and out in less than 10 minutes, even with a long line. Probably not the best place to take your time picking said bagel, so make it quick! Got what I needed, no complaints.
Since starting to order from here again recently, I've liked it more and more. I used to order the paninis on a regular basis, mainly the Italian panini. It was really good, but it's not my go-to anymore.
This place isn't called pick a panini…. I don't know why I always ordered half a dozen bagels with the spreads separately. I guess I liked toasting it myself so it would be very hot and I could add as much cheese or spread as wanted.
Although that was good, I found that ordering a bagel and having them prepare it is actually really good, especially since I've only ordered from seamless. Most bagels are still pretty warm when they get here. They also DO put the right amount of cream cheese, which is rare, and why I always used to make the bagels myself.
Slowly trying to order as many different things as possible from here… So far I've become hooked to a couple bagels. I always get everything bagels, and either the lox and scallion cream cheese, or eggs with cheese.
Very happy I gave this place a round two 🙂
So here's what happened.
Yesterday, a unit in my office ordered up like 4 dozen of these bagels for a breakfast.
I was not originally invited to said breakfast but happened to be passing by when I was invited in for a bagel… Mmmm bagel.
I picked a plain and added some cream cheese. Great bagel!
Then the admin said – everybody take some to go – "I shouldn't have ordered 4 dozen!" Next thing I knew there's a bag of 4 bagels in my hand. Mmmm bagels.
Fast forward to tonight when I decided I wanted another bagel. I was given a couple garlic and a couple whole wheat. I toasted up that garlic and added some cream cheese. Blahhh bagel. The garlic bagel tasted SOUR. How does that happen? So gross. Probably going to toss the other garlic.
Next time I'm offered up a Pick-a-Bagel I'll be sure to stick with the plain and say 'no thanks' to the garlic.
Solid experience ordering this weekend. Good panini at 4am is HARD to find. Prompt delivery. Good bagels too. Nice selection.
Meh. Super mundane. Came here because it was right next to the hotel I stayed at and I wanted a late night munchie. Wasn't really worth it though. My mozzarella panini was super whatever. Staff wasn't that friendly. Give or take it was 3am but STILL! It would've been nice to be acknowledged when I walked in. Only positive were their variety of drinks + chips and my lemon poppy muffin. It was pretty delish.
Overall, I wasn't impressed. Don't need to come back.
This Bagel chain is one of the best in NYC and they do a great. This is not gonna be a place you are going to find a deal but you will find good value for your money. The 7-grain bagel is my favorite with egg and cheese. If you work in the area or happen to need some food this is a great place to get a bagel.
Not a bad place for a bagel. They have a pretty decent selection of bagels, including my favorite: whole wheat everything with lox spread. Yes, they definitely put too much cream cheese, but I'd rather that they put too much than too little. You can always scrape off to your liking. Prices are about average, and the service moves pretty quickly. You'll find a very diverse crowd here, from tourists to construction workers, to finance bros from Goldman Sachs, all coming for a coffee and some bagel and schmear.
However, you should come here for the salad at lunchtime. You can create your own salad for just around $10, and you get pretty much unlimited toppings, within reason. It's relatively unknown, and you can get a salad that's way more filling than that of Chop'T, Just Salad, or Olives. This remains kind of a hidden gem among all the different eating spots, so just thought I would put that out there.
If you don't want to wait in line at Hudson Eats, Shake Shack, and you need something decent quickly for lunch, Pick A Bagel is definitely a viable option.
