Everything was pretty good. We went for lunch after class and were promptly seated. I like the layout of this restaurant, it's not too crowded.
The lunch special is $7 for an entree and appetizer, which is AMAZING. Seriously, so good. I ordered veggie pad thai, which was filling and the crunchy rolls, which were also really great. Make sure to get the thai iced tea.
For 3 people, our check came to less than $30 and it was one of the best meals I've had in a while. Thai 101 is dope.
Thai 101 Bistro seems to be the newest iteration in a slightly different location from their last restaurant. I ordered the pad se ew from them and everything turned out alright. For their lunch special you get a side and the entree for $7.00 which is a pretty good deal. I would say however avoid their side salad since it's pretty much a joke with the paltry 4-5 leaves a lettuce, what they should really call it is a salad wrap. There wasn't an abundance of protein (chicken) in my noodle dish and the amount of noodles wasn't that great. But for $7.00 I can't really complain too much since the flavors were right, the price was right, and it's still better than eating at McDonalds. I guess I can place this under the win category.
The food is okay, but nothing spectacular. I'd probably only pay for the lunch specials because other than that, I would pay the price for its dishes.
I placed a Seamless order at 2:18pm. The expected delivery time was 30-45 min. It came at 3:43pm. You do the math. No apology or acknowledgement that it was late.
I've ordered from here 3 times, and the delivery time has been inconsistent. So, I'm not sure when to expect my food. I was particularly irritated because I didn't have my morning coffee, and I was kept in constant anticipation for my Thai Iced Coffee. Finally, after waiting 1 hr. and 25 minutes later, my coffee arrived. I've had my coffee, and I'm thinking rationally again to be able to write this review.
I'm really surprised with my delivery experience. For one, I would of thought that at this time, the lunch rush hour would have passed. Secondly, I made an order for one person. I ordered a lunch special pork chop over rice, pad see ew, and a Thai iced coffee. I didn't order a lot of food, so I'm not sure why it took so long for this delivery.
A friend who lives in the neighborhood recommended Thai 101 to us. The entrees were reasonably priced and tasty, their happy hour went until 9:30pm, and the place had a nice atmosphere. For $8 to $11 you got a good size meal; enough to take home for later. My only complaint was the service. For such a small restaurant, I don't get why it was so hard to get a hold of our waiter.
With all the restaurants in this Brooklyn neighborhood I would think restaurants would be trying to keep and get loyal customers not trying to get them to look for other eateries to support.
I would've given them three or four stars but the waitress/hostess with blonde hair and a farmers overalls was in need of customer service adjustment. She would be better off helping the cooking staff retrieve items from the fridge instead of being around the paying people. The firecracker shrimp are seasoned well. The siracha chicken made with tofu had lots of vegetables and nice spice. The pad thai chicken is always good. The salad with ginger is light and fresh… THEY also added the tip to the bill for a party of two during lunchtime. REALLY? Don't think I will eat in, just order take out.
Thai 101's lunch special (11:30am-4pm) made me stop by for a quick lunch on the go. The menu is a pared down version of their lunch options for $7 and comes with a choice of four appetizers: 2pc spring rolls, 3pcs chicken dumplings, thai salad or soup.
My friend and I stopped in last night for one more drink. We sat at the bar. We were tended to right away. I ordered a mojito and my friend a lychee martini. Both drinks were strong. The people at the bar were friendly. At a quick glance, the patrons seemed pleased with the food. I would go back to try the food.
